To have allowed my dc watch the Olympic opening ceremony?

I was shocked at the library scene leading to a threesome.

The mocking of Christians in the last supper scene.

The feminization of males & the sheer number of transvestites on parade. And a child thrown in the midst of them.

This is a sporting event, why the need to have it so highly sexulaised? My dc were thankfully howling with laughter at parts "the smurf man" singing (complete with his painted bulge) had us all in stitches.

I feel there was a social conditioning agenda to the opening ceremony & it was completely inappropriate given that it is for family viewing. Sexulaised behaviour should not be displayed to children.

@AnImaginaryCat the minions were feature in the olympic parade, did you not see it,
just i was listening to radio 4 where they discussed it and i wanted to impart my knowledge, randomly i know

Flowers4me · 27/07/2024 08:47

My brother has young children and felt the same. My kids are older so I didn't watch it through parental eyes so for me, it was a mixture of boring, bizarre and hilarious. Mr Blue Smurf is etched on my memory forever LOL.

AInightingale · 27/07/2024 08:47

Agree with you. And the depressing thing is that the British would have done exactly the same had we been hosting 2024. Look at the BBC's obsession with shoehorning drag into every bloody thing. It's just getting so boring now, entitled males showcasing and thrusting fetish front and centre everywhere.

Homophonic? Using words that sound the same but are spelt differently? Stare and stair. Bear and bare.

Words matter.

Obviously a typo

Just another day in the west 2024

Honestly the pervert apologists will find a way to condone anything and blame others for not being down with the kids. Even though most of the drag acts were older men.

Huh?? The library scene was based on Truffaut movies made in the 1950s…. How is that anything to do with being ‘down with the kids’ 😵‍💫

It was like Eurovision on crack

😂

Blue Smurf Panty Bulge Guy, is that you?

Yup you got me 😂

Painauraison · 27/07/2024 08:54

You're right op. I sent them to bed when it started to turn. Highly inappropriate and anyone that thinks sexual scenes are appropriate for children needs their head examining. We do not allow our children to watch any adverts at all either because they are so over sexualised, stop watching for a while then you'll see. Tbh me and husband weren't sure if the women were actually women, who knows these days.

Transvestites? You really think that is acceptable language?

Homophobia isn’t a good look OP.

There’s nothing as homophobic as the Tran’s movement- so jog on down the soaked runway.

usernother · 27/07/2024 08:56

I got bored and turned over. I agree with you OP.

VaccineSticker · 27/07/2024 08:58

Agreed @Creepingivy
Some scenes were shocking indeed.

They have banned the headscarf in their French Olympic team, in the name of secularism, then they go all woke in other scenes, then they go on to show a naked Smurf man with his balls out on a family show that’s been transmitted across the world. But no, the headscarf which least offensive is not allowed, but balls are.
What has the world come to?

vivainsomnia · 27/07/2024 08:59

It certainly achieved one thing: people talking about it and remembering it for some time.

I think the references to French culture was very....French. In my view to much for what is an international event. As such, only those very familiar with French culture would have been able to understand it. For everyone else, it was a bit of 'what the heck' moment.

I think many international people would have been disappointed because it didn't depict the stereotypes associated to France. Style, Class, Fashion etc... It was very much a French ceremony for the French living in 2024 culture.

I personally didn't enjoy it but that's because I'm struggling a bit to adjust to the modern expressive culture but I respect that France embarrassed it. It was a brave decision to focus on celebrating the youngest generation values.

Ah right!! No didn't see a good bit of the opening ceremony. Sounds wild though, Minions, threesomes, headless women, bleeding buildings and drag disciples. Probably could have shoe horned the rabies vaccine in all that if they'd really tried.

I'm fine @LibertyDuck. Just a bit of flippancy on my part.

Misschananderlerbongg · 27/07/2024 09:01

I thought it was crap and all over the place. I didn’t watch it with kids so didn’t care about the kissing or anything. I was surprised it was so poor.

TizerorFizz · 27/07/2024 09:02

On Radio 5, they made it clear the French had kept most of the content under wraps. At times they gave up with the commentary and at other times were clearly guessing. We were travelling and listening to it. When we got home we started it on catch up. Ended up using fast forward at times.

I didn’t think the Marie Antoinette scene was a great look. That didn’t seem child appropriate. I don’t get the obsession with men looking like women in events like this either and at the Olympics we need separation!

This is also it, it wasn't even entertaining or impressive. The Olympics is just one more thing that used to focus on sporting achievements being turned into something else- boring AF.

I have a 6 and 8 year old and had meant to show them the ceremony. Is it safe to do so?

BlueLimeRun · 27/07/2024 09:05

It was shit - such a shame as could have been wonderful.
The 2 opera singers were very good, as was Celine.
The catwalk was more suited to Eurovision.

Paris looked fabulous at night though.

Twistybranch · 27/07/2024 09:05

Let’s not forget one of the dancers balls were hanging out ……

scottishheather86 · 27/07/2024 09:05

Have you ever been to France?

PadstowGirl · 27/07/2024 09:06

I found it tedious, a bit like Eurovision but Eurovision seemed more organised somehow.
Precious little to do with sport and if it was about French culture they missed so much out.
Their natural environment could have featured a lot more.
Hate drag. Absolutely hate it. Its like watching clowns (terrifying) but with added meanness.

InWalksBarberalla · 27/07/2024 09:08

I hadn't expected to see men in g-strings and heart shaped nipple covers in the Olympic opening ceremony. Or the threescore bit. I really think it was unnecessary and also crap.

Probably best to scan it yourself first; there are some elements you may not want them to see (eg headless women and fake blood and a blue Smurf Man with bulgy bits).

I would imagine a lot of it would go over their heads but it is pretty boring . I personally felt a lot of it was unnecessary and disrespectful to its international audience . It was not family friendly .

The flipping balloon cauldron was very cool but needs to come with a ‘ don’t try this at home warning ‘
