Watching the opening ceremony. AIBU in finding it boringly grim. Especially when compared to London 2012.

Genius tip from someone in the Guardian comments: imagine the commentary is being spoken by Alan Partridge. Makes remarks like 'Peru - home of Paddington' insanely funny, instead of mildly tooth-gritting.

I quite liked most of it but I need to know why Australia was nearly last in the boat parade.

I've googled and it's not alphabetical order like they explained at the beginning that Germany in French begins with A.

I think they could have done something more interesting with the boats. Maybe some flags or colour or anything really!!

Normally it's the athlete parade that is unending. This really takes the cake for dragging it out.

And might I add, Underworld doing the music was an absolute stroke of genius.

It's because they do future host nations at the end of the parade

I think the 3 last countries were the current hosts, next hosts (US, 2028) and ones after that (Australia, 2032)?

Same! I think it’s the anticipation that made it worse. I love France and French culture and I thought it would be a wonderful chance for them to showcase that. I think I was hoping for the French equivalent of what we did at London 2012). It’s all just been a bit weird and random and disappointing though!
