Watching the opening ceremony. AIBU in finding it boringly grim. Especially when compared to London 2012.

You dont hear of Swedish stag parties being banned from pubs in Eastern Europe, or French. Binge drinking to the extent it happens in the UK is not the issue in most European countries.

Have you ever been in Stockholm on a Saturday night? Sweden was a pretty poor choice for that particular stereotype.

I thought there was some very, very dark symbolism and imagery in it. Absolutely wasn't into the 'trans-fest', including a bearded man crawling (what I assume was meant to be) provocatively on the floor. The artistic director has said that he wasn't trying to depict 'The Last Supper', but you could see why you'd come to that conclusion (along with other references) and wht they would take extreme offense. I'm sure the agenda was 'inclusivity,' but I'm very glad that my child wasn't included in watching it. Absolutely dreadful IMO and I don't think the Olympics/France have done themselves any favours if X is anything to go by.

Why? You want to hide chavvy kids because you are a snob rather than being honest and reflect us as a nation.

Imagine saying the same about race or age.

Honestly, yes I'm a bit of a snob. I would rather not have the chavvy kids as our showcase of what our country stands for. We are very lucky to have beautiful countryside, we are synonymous with so many poets, writers, musicians.

A bit like If someone visits my house, I show them my farmhouse kitchen, the pet ducks & goats, not the utility room where I'm hanging my washing...

@Piggiesinblankets eh? The London one literally did showcase the British countryside, right at the start. British musicians, authors were represented too. Did you not actually watch it?
