Watching the opening ceremony. AIBU in finding it boringly grim. Especially when compared to London 2012.

Got bored and turned it off. Why was Lady Gaga singing? Vanessa Paradis singing Joe Le Taxi would have been better and at least French!

They missed a trick not having you as opening ceremony director / producer!

I'm french so I'm enjoying the french songs I grew up with (and that Marseillaise was incredible)
Also, we had a beheaded Marie-Antoinette, I don't need more.

Opening ceremonies are usually quite dull in my opinion. Even Beijing with its amazing fireworks is something better appreciated being there and doesn’t translate so well to tv viewing.

Why isn't it in a stadium? It's it because the world is our stadium or something ?

I'm finding the BBC commentary hilariously colonial though. Why are they wanging on about Incas and Phoenicians for the non-European nations? They didn't mention Pict uprisings or Hitler's invasion of Poland.

It’s disappointing. Stunning backdrop but feels disjointed. The rain isn’t helping.I want to turn it off but DH is watching.

The dancing is a bit meh. But I wonder if they've had to tone the exuberance down due to slippery surfaces

I don't think it has anything to do with the UK, but it's totally lame to co-opt the whole of Europe when it's meant to be about a specific city / country. Surely France has enough good pop music of its own?

Really poor show. We got the kids all excited, had a French themed tea, sat down with popcorn, and it’s been rubbish. Ended up putting on a bit of London 2012 to show them what it should be like.

Can we all stand and applaud Danny Boyle for the absolute legendary opening ceremony that he put on. Completely unappreciated until you watch this drivel but it is Paris…I highly doubt they give a toss what I think

Absolutely. I loved the London opening ceremony so much. I think that and Beijing are my favourite ones. The London one was a lovely celebration of Britain. I felt so positive and had such a warm fuzzy glow in 2011-13, with the royal wedding then the Olympics in London, and then I feel like it all went to shit in the years since… 😂😂
