Watching the opening ceremony. AIBU in finding it boringly grim. Especially when compared to London 2012.

I think it's a disgrace there are no women dressed as men in this opening ceremony.

I think its meant to be Dionysius, but what a Greek God has to do with Paris, I'm not sure. Someone might be able to shed some light

We actually bought the opening ceremony for 2012 on dvd. Watched it again in the depths of lockdown really cheered us up

The drone shots look good, I guess it’s designed for TV only

The genius of what Danny Boyle did was to tell unexpected stories - who would have bet on the Industrial Revolution and the NHS as the focal points - as well as having the immense skill required to tell those stories effectively on a stadium scale for a global audience. The delicate balance of humour and spectacle, the production values and behind-the-scenes expertise (I doubt any other nation has the skills base), and the pace of each element over the evening was perfect. It will never be bettered, the 2012 opening ceremony is truly a masterpiece.

I think it was a lovely original idea to use the Seine but hasn’t really worked for me.

Also, what on earth was the story setup in the library that ended up in a threesom! Closing the bedroom door with a wink? What the hec! Not suitable in my opinion.

Danny did it so well. This all seems a bit random.

This is the first Olympics my son is old enough to watch. I've been telling him all about previous opening ceremonies, particularly London, and how exciting they are; he's been bitterly disappointed and so have I.
I also feel sorry for the flag bearers, usually it's such an honour to carry the flag, but this time they're being obscured by the country name or lost in the crowd.
The whole thing feels dull.

The mechanical horse looks good. It seems to have gone all dark, gloomy and dystopian

I quite like the horse but the clips of older openings look way better
