Hi VHL,

When did you have your second treatment? I had only one 5 weeks ago and although the swelling improved it’s still there and also under eye bags which look like fat deposits or something, I did not have before. It’s improving but I look worse than before the treatment. My injected suggested an allergic reaction but I had both steroids and antihistamines and it did not resolve the issue. I’m really hoping this will go down over time as it does subsiding however not sure those bags will go as look quite permanent to me, nothing like a swelling.

Hi, so two days ago was my second treatment, the first was 4 weeks ago. It sounds very similar to yours, strong antihistamine hasn’t worked and I’m just about to take steroids but after hearing it hasn’t worked for you I’m a bit disappointed. I’ll try them but it really is insane the swelling I’ve got, it’s isn’t like a normal allergic reaction (which would be more spread over the eye/cheek etc) it’s only where the injection sites were, literally my whole eye bag is filled with fluid. Sounds like what you’re describing. The brand was lumi eye with no HA so shouldn’t fill up with fluid. It’s been suggested that it’s an allergy to fish/shellfish maybe. I’m just not sure it makes sense, I’d surely see an improvement after a few days with max strength antihistamines? Does yours look any better?

Hi, I am sorry you go through this also. Mine has gone down and at least I can leave the house and work because for a few days I looked so scary I had to stay home, avoided meeting clients for work and socialising. However I’m not back to my pretreatment look. I worse as bags make me look tired and accentuate hollowness above somehow if that makes sense. Manufacturer say it’s an old HA filler I had 17 years ago under my eyes and there may be a bit of that too but the bags look like swollen fat pads to me. It sure. Hoping this will go back to normal in time as the treatment lasts 6-9 months they say so o really hope what we’ve got is not permanent changes it caused. I’ll Never do PN again!

VHL · 28/03/2025 18:09

Oh I’m sorry to hear that, I’m dreading having to face this being a longer term issue. I only had it for fine lines and I’d be grateful for those problems right now. This is so bad I cannot go out like it, cancelled plans in hope I could stop the swelling but no difference at all so far. Having read others having similar, this must be a side effect that happens but they are not admitting to. I’m so gutted, wouldn’t have taken it had I known, it was explained as very non invasive and simple. From what I’ve seen since when googling the end results without complications aren’t great. Will never touch it again or recommend anyone to try it. Thanks for replying, I really hope you see a big improvement soon.

Hi, update…and massive relief! I went to see another aesthetics nurse. She suggested we try dissolve with hylaronaise, she suspects I had a filler with HA in. Less than 20 minutes after and the swelling had mostly gone now an hour later I’m almost back to normal! Wanted to leave this here incase anyone else comes across this thread with the same problem. I was beside myself, hate to think of anyone else going through it.

Hi,

This is amazing news, well done!! I am so pleased you found the answer. My practitioner suggested the same yesterday. I'll do it too. Have you used topilase cream or injections to dissolve?

They used the injection, honestly it was instant! One minute I had sausages under my eyes 😳 the next gone! My natural HA will take a hit but I’ll take that and it will replenish! I’m off to usher tonight, I was cancelling it this morning because I looked so bad. Best of luck 🤞 hoping you get a really good result too xx

Have just seen my injector again. In my opinion the under eye is exactly the same. They have dismissed it being my fat pad pushed up and are saying they think it’s lymphatic blockage and want me to find a lymphatic drainage specialist. Of course that would be at my own cost which is frustrating and I don’t think it’s that at all. I did have a blepharoplasty a few years back at the same place so I’ve asked to go back and see the surgeon and the surgeon has apparently mentioned an ultrasound at the clinic potentially which would reassure me. I’m due to see the surgeon on 4th April so will want to know how the swelling can be resolved and if surgery again is the only option I’ll be booking it as my eyes look sooo different to each other and I keep getting comments about it.

Could you try dissolving? I had so many people tell me it wouldn’t work but it did…I’ll happily show you my pictures before and after…mine looked like swollen fat pads. I googled like mad and saw research where they even the use HA dissolver on naturally ‘fatty/puffy’ Malar pads and it works too. Worth a shot if you haven’t tried dissolver 🤞

Sounds very similar to what I had, I had my first 4 weeks ago and no effect then on Wednesday had the 2nd and within an hour I could see something was wrong. It did look like swelling at first so made sense it may be an allergy. I was convinced it was permanent but the dissolve sorted it immediately. I had so many different opinions but luckily found a nurse who was adamant it wasn’t swelling if antihistamine and steroids hadn’t helped. I would really urge you to try it, can’t imagine how you feel, it was bad enough I had it for a few days. I could send you pictures so you can see if mine was similar. It won’t do you any harm to try and the person who originally injected you has a duty of care to help you and try the dissolve. Hope you get it sorted.

dollyblue01 · 30/03/2025 15:25

Hi I’ve had this and found out I’m allergic to hyaluronic acid had puffy eyes for almost 8 weeks, nothing I did would have helped any sooner , but never again , now I know.

Thank you so much for keeping me updated. I now booked my appointment this Thursday and will try dissolving. I will start with the cream first and hope it will help as the skin in the eye area is so thin. My filler is 17 years old in that area but if it went it would I be a miracle. Fingers crossed! I’ll keep you updated.

AngieBei · 31/03/2025 15:47

I’ll mention having a go at dissolving it. I have talked to 2 lymphatic drainage people who don’t think it’s that so dissolving might be worth a go. We could do with sharing photos for comparison on this thread!

Paperclip34 · 01/04/2025 09:34

@VHL can I check, you had filler 17 years ago, but PN a few months ago? Was it the interaction of these that caused the swelling? My left eye never went back down (I was the original OP) - its not terrible, but not great. I was just going to leave it but your post has given me hope!

How long ago did you have your HA filler and how long ago PN?

mine was 17 years HA restiline and PN 6 weeks ago. All the swelling is down but I have under eye bags. Booked dissolving for Thursday but have not tried yet. Also hopeful. The PN manufacturer suggested I dissolve also, I am hoping it won’t make it worse as the filler is so old.

Hi, I’ve never had filler around my eyes BUT the lumi eyes polynucleotide left me looking like I had big swellings under my eyes and strangely presented like filler, even felt like filler. So I found a nurse who agreed and tried to dissolve it and it worked immediately. Does leave your skin looking dehydrated but your own natural HA should return. I couldn’t be happier that the swelling has gone. Hope it works for you too 🤞

I see! It says that Lumi eyes has no HA in it? Did your injector explain how did it happen you had ha build up there from PN injection only?

How old are you VHL and what is the skin looking now after the dissolving, please if you don’t mind me asking? There are a lot of horror stories about diflated tissue under eyes online, I’m really worried going ahead with the dissolving as my filler is do old. How many days has it been since dissolving? Was it many small injections or a couple? What do you think about skin condition now, is it back to normal?

Hi, I’m 42 and I didn’t have any issues under my eyes other than I’d started to notice fine lines from smiling so polynucleotides seemed worth a try. However I suspect there was HA in it, as did the nurse who dissolved for me. I didn’t have any hollowing or bags before so the swelling/lumps were very noticeable like a serious injury not just puffy. I didn’t read before that the amount of dissolve used should be calculated carefully and relevant to the amount needing dissolving. My nurse made a calculation based on what she knew. I had a few injections under each eye, maybe 4-5. No bruising and very minimal swelling after which went immediately. They can water it down a little and don’t have to use as much as they would to dissolve in an emergency for instance. So maybe a little at a time, see how you react then maybe a 2 nd dissolve if needed? My skin looks a little dehydrated now (3 days on) on the Saturday when I had it done I did look a little sunken in my eye sockets by late evening but I rehydrated with plenty of water (I actually too liquid IV to rehydrate which I get from boots). I have been using a gentle hydrating moisturiser since and I’m happy to ride out a little bit of dehydrated looking skin until my skin reproduces what it’s lost naturally compared to what I was dealing with before the dissolve. I think it comes down to what you’re happier with but for me it was hands down the best decision. I don’t feel comfortable sharing my pictures publicly but if you inbox me (if that’s possible I’ve never tried) I don’t mind sharing the before and after with you.

Hi, sorry I thought I’d replied. No that was someone else on the thread. I’ve never had filler under eyes, only polys 4 weeks ago with no reaction and then last week with severe swelling. The nurse who originally did it said no HA was in the lumi eyes but another nurse I saw said the swelling looked and felt like HA and tried hyralanaise (not sure it’s spelt correctly) and it worked immediately. Personally I would try it, I’m so glad I did. I read a study where they used it on people to dissolve HA but also naturally puffy eyes and pre/post op eye surgery also. It’s very individual as are all results I suppose but for me it was like a miracle. I was besides myself with worry. Good luck

Wowsers I wanted to try PN but this has put me off. Glad you got it sorted @VHL

AngieBei · 01/04/2025 19:54

Wow that was bad! Looking at that I’d have said straight away you’d had a reaction to the PN. Glad it’s sorted now. Because I have it under one eye not both it looks odd. I’ll try and add a photo but mine is not as bad as yours so I’m really pleased you got it sorted.

Yeah mine was extreme but I honestly don’t think it was a reaction as no antihistamine or steroid (strong dose) did anything. I think either the wrong lumi was used under my eye or it does contain unspecified HA? Not sure the dissolve would’ve worked otherwise. I saw less puffy (like yours, only slight) dissolved too when I googled for hours in pure panic… so maybe an option if it bothers you.

I have very similar to yours. How long has it been since you had your PN? Have you had HA fillers before? What did your practitioner say?have they spoken to manufacturer? Ive read a lot of worrying things about dissolving today, they’re are forums with thousands of people with serious tissue complications. Have my appointment booked for Thursday but really worried to make things worse!!.
