Sickening behaviour. Surely tasering the man is enough.
He is on the floor tasered so you give him some kickings to the head?

Hope this is properly investigated.
Greater Manchester Police have an awful reputation.

BBC Verify has looked at the several videos available covering this incident and the one afterwards

BBC Verify analyses Manchester Airport incident footage - BBC News

I mean regardless of what led up to it…it doesn’t look good.

Plus, the incidents described by those women about being strip searched by GMB are awful. And they definitely didn’t deserve that type of treatment.

In a city centre environment this would look to be an excessive use of force by the police but in an airport there's no margin for error and they can't take chances with people who offer them violence. This applies equally to all demographics; the police would have surely stamped just as hard on a party of non-compliant, drunken stags - probably even harder. I hope the officer returns to full duties after receiving words of advice and that the aggrieved parties get no compensation and are charged with any relevant criminal offences.

Not after the fact, while the suspect is on the floor and subdued. That's what people seem to conveniently forget.

Seriously, which part of on the floor in the
prone position with your arms flat at your side or on your knees with your hands behind your head do you see as non-compliant? How does someone comply further?

Their arms were wriggling - he could have been reaching for anything - better safe than sorry in an airport environment. He wasn't compliant and he was still potentially a threat.

xiaotuziguigui · 26/07/2024 06:58

From what I can gather the guy who was kicked and his brother were there to pick up their mother who was flying in. The mother had some problem on the plane and when she told her sons about it they kicked off at a third party in arrivals I don't know how badly behaved they were at that point.
And that is how they came to the attention of the police.

It amazes me that someone can go to the airport to pick up mum, probably expecting to be back home looking at photos and drinking tea within the hour. But end up fighting police officers and getting their head literally kicked in.
How on earth did it escalate to such levels of violence on both sides? How come it the police were unable to talk them down?

My opinion is that some people are very fired up and close to the edge. Which is why those who uphold the law need to be professional at all times.

There is absolutely no evidence that this man was reaching for anything. This is the same rhetoric that US police have been using for years and it’s bullshit.

If the subdued man really wanted to reach for anything then the police officer kneeling on him bringing weapons closer certainly didn’t negate any risk did it?

This highly trained police officer lost control, stop excusing that.

ArseholeCatIsABlackAndWhiteCat · 26/07/2024 09:04

@Æthelred have you watched the video? The man is still ,face down on the floor(after being tasered). He is not moving. He doesn't move even after the first kick, only after the second one. There are no wriggly hands and the officer is perfectly safe and out of range even if there were. No where in police training it says to kick suspects in the head in order to safely cuff them. Come on.

Livelovebehappy · 26/07/2024 09:08

Bex5490 · 26/07/2024 08:40

You really think so? When now he’s become the victim and got a whole city of people on his side condemning the police?

I doubt it.

Edited

Slight exaggeration there. Not a whole city. Just a large unruly mob who don’t respect law and order, and tbh would probably use any excuse to try to challenge the police. Most of those there probably don’t even know what’s happened and just turn up as part of the rent a mob crew.

@eggplant16
Are you drunk?

You literally quoted me and accused me of condoning the behaviour of the officer and now you have gone off on some weird tangent

See below

twentysomethingendssoon
Not condoning what's happened and we won't know what has gone on unless they do an independent review but I do I wonder how much trauma that police officer has been through to react like that

So you are condoning it then?

In answer to your question No

You are coming close to condoning by saying we don't know how much trauma had been suffered. Thats not relevant.

Please stop telling me to stop commenting, that I'm silly, that I'm drunk and I need to F off.

And I wouldn’t put much confidence in the womens statements about strip searched until the full facts are available. People in these situations often lie or exaggerate the issue to fit their own agendas.

I have seen some footage but not all the footage. Nobody has seen all the footage yet - by "all the footage" I mean all the material from the dozens of CCTV cameras, police body cameras and footage from bystanders. As I alluded in my first post, if this had happened in town it would be offensive. On this occasion all my sympathy is with the police.

TinkerTiger · 26/07/2024 09:14

It's very interesting that all of the rhetoric is around the police acting tough and none saved for the criminal who broke a policewoman's nose and put others in hospital . If they weren't brawling this event would not have happened.

It's scary that people don't understand the difference between criminals being criminals and law enforcers behaving in the same way.

Why stop there? Why follow the legal processes with court and sentencing and prison? Why not just kill him on the spot? The police in America already do!

These cases have been investigated by Dame Vera Baird. The report was published on 18th July.

A damning report has found officers at Greater Manchester Police are abusing their power - making unlawful arrests, unlawful and demeaning strip searches, sometimes treating victims as perpetrators, and traumatising those who have suffered sexual abuse or domestic violence.

Been kicked in the head by armed officers is unacceptable in any situation.

How would you react if this was your family member.

He’s been suspended. Likely will end up being fired. What more do you suggest? Death by stoning?

And? Does that apply to every allegation? Do we put trust in criminals always telling the truth? As I said, needs investigating for the facts in this situation, not simply accepting someone’s narrative. May be telling the truth, might not be. It’s a dangerous road to go down if we accept what people say by default.

Don’t change the goal posts.

You implied that the women making complaints of strip searches that have been found to be unlawful were lying.

Very glad our police don't carry guns but this is still unacceptable.

He was carrying a gun. He was an armed officer.

It's nice to see that the aggrieved party have got themselves a reputable, level headed lawyer who steers well clear of bandwagons.

Nice and local for them too - Birmingham is very near Rochdale.

Lawyer claims Manchester police incident was 'attempted assassination'

Family solicitor Akhmed Yakoob spoke out after hundreds of protesters blocked traffic and held up placards in Manchester following footage of an officer kicking a teenager in the head 'like a football'.

No because she had been violently attacked by a thug who got his comeuppance

Shakeoffyourchains · 26/07/2024 09:46

The police response to this has flavours of their response to when they killed (or murdered) Sheku Bayoh.

They claimed he'd assaulted a female officer too (stamped on her) and maintained that line right the way through the inquiries until a video emerged showing their version of events didn't happen.

It's amazing how quickly people make excuses for violent thugs just because they've got a badge and a uniform.
