Third trimester, I know it's not recommended but ... really fancy a glass of wine. Would you?

It’s so true regarding the lack of understanding of female biology. I thought some books were over-egging it, but reading some of the comments on here are pretty flabbergasting. If men had children there would be so much more general knowledge about pregnancy and risks. It’s so much easier to tell women they can’t do things rather than provide proper information. It’s the same with the outdated and disproven ‘your fertility falls off a cliff at 35’. I’m definitely not a conspiracy theory believer, but it’s convenient that all the misinformation pushes the ideal of women to get pregnant as soon as possible, live only for the child, be the main caregiver, not get paid enough to warrant to continue to work… or maybe I’m just too cynical!

Rycbar · 20/07/2024 20:36

I do think just one glass probably won’t do anything but I’ve seen the effects of FAS so I would never risk it.

Onehotday · 20/07/2024 20:37

I think it's absolutely ridiculous to want a single glass of wine so much that you'd drink it while pregnant and I'm disgusted how many people on here would do so.

100% no from me, but I have lost 6 pregnancies (4 after 11 weeks) with no discernible medical reason why, so I feel like I have read more studies on pg loss since 2017 than there have been mumsnet posts! 2 that I’ve read recently have estimated a 6% increase in the risk of likely miscarriage associated with every alcoholic drink. Yes you could drive a bus through some of the data due to the difficulty of having a true control group but the conclusion was why take the risk? Also, Waitrose do some fairly passable non alcoholic wine, and Gordons n/a G&T also pretty good!

Krumblina · 20/07/2024 20:39

Get some nice alcohol free drinks/wine. The alcohol free kopperberg are nice

No, its not worth it.
They think up to 5% of kids have fasd.
It only ever seems to be diagnosed in adopted kids.

My dc both have asd/adhd so i would have been blaming myself for any symptoms.

I also wouldnt smoke having had my mum smoke in pregnancy and i have
Asthma
Allergies
Hayfever
Born at 6lb

My mum smoked and drank during both pregnancies. My sister and I are both successful university graduates with great careers. My sister had childhood asthma but grew out of it. I have hay fever but they are just things that cannot be linked to drinking the occasional glass during pregnancy! We were also both 7lb plus!

my son has adhd, but my fiancé does and i also have it. It is 100 percent biological and not caused by the fact that I had the odd sip of wine or glass towards the end! And I mean…occasional!

unless you have guaranteed evidence don’t say drinking during pregnancy is the direct cause of your allergies and or other things! My friend didn’t drink at all and her son is asd and has asthma etc!

FYI my adhd is bright, has lots of capabilities, is incredibly imaginative and wonderful! He’s four and thriving! He has an ehcp but I am absolutely not beating myself up about having an occasion glass during pregnancy because with my fiancé and I both being adhd then likely his adhd is down to the fact that it’s a biological cause!

Yes, why not just wait? Even if breastfeeding, the levels of alcohol in breastmilk are approximately your blood alcohol level, so much much less of a risk than in pregnancy. Just wait, pregnancy is only 9 months of your life.

I’m disgusted about people like you making incredibly judgemental comments when there is precisely 0 studies that suggest that a single glass of wine poses any risk whatsoever. But, whatever makes you feel good!

Sadly they are just fizzy fruit juice! Best alcohol free drink is Heineken zero and tastes like the real thing! Had some last night at an event I went to. Not pregnant, but was driving! A great alternative!

Because they think shaming people into feeling guilty is a good thing for the universe despite having nothing to back it up!

Strokethefurrywall · 20/07/2024 20:44

Yes I would and did.

AppleTree16 · 20/07/2024 20:45

Read expecting better. One small glass of wine won’t do anything. I’ve had the odd glass during this pregnancy but haven’t really missed it due to sickness.

I had some alcohol free gin with some nice tonic. That was very satisfying. Not sweet at all.

imgonnalooseit · 20/07/2024 20:45

Yes done it 18month old is absolutely fine i actually had a couple throughout special occasions xx

SharonEllis · 20/07/2024 20:46

Yes small glass very occasionally is fine.

dbeuowlxb173939 · 20/07/2024 20:46

A small one won't do any harm in 3rd trimester

justmyluck1234 · 20/07/2024 20:47

I personally wouldn't

Gowlett · 20/07/2024 20:48

Yes, do if you want to.

LindorDoubleChoc · 20/07/2024 20:49

I await with great interest the studies showing that a whole host of health issues in babies and children have fallen off a cliff since the new alcohol in pregnancy in guidelines.

Just where did she say she couldn't manage it? Sounds like she absolutely could, but is asking if a glass would be ok.

Zanatdy · 20/07/2024 20:59

Yes I had one measured 125ml glass of wine a week when pregnant. I think that’s absolutely fine

HillBillieEilish · 20/07/2024 21:03

No. I really wanted to but the scientists say it's bad and I've seen the effect of it. I have read reports and seen documentaries state that even one can cause some damage but you get alcoholics and drug addicts having perfectly healthy babies so it's luck of the draw.

What difference is one glass of wine going to make to you? None! And if it does then the glass is too big.

If you're clucking for something so bad that you have it, knowing it's bad for your baby then you have a problem.

But what you do is none of my business.
