We NEED air-conditioning

I'm wide awake and have partially stripped off. All the windows are open but there is no air.

I said to DH that we need AC! I don't care that we only get heat for about three days a year. This perimenopausal woman can't cope! Right now I'd be willing to remortgage our house to pay for it 😂

Same we visited my mum's penfriend in a mainland European country. Her house was stone built they had marble floors so air con wasn't needed. They also had their bedrooms downstairs and their living area upstairs so it was more comfortable at night.

Late uncles house in Italy is the same. Stone built with marble floors and a beautiful marble staircase.

Yes they had a spiral staircase the entrance was beautiful.

Have you tried opening the loft hatch, if you have one? Heat rises, so it can make a massive difference to the temperature upstairs.

JenniferBooth · 22/07/2024 14:09

Just had gas safety check and engineer actually moaned about us not having a boiler. You cant please every fucker

How do you suck in cooler air when it's 30degrees outside?

How often is it 30c at night in the UK?

When you live in a tiny sweatbox in the middle of a block of flats at the top

I live in a flat too 🤷

StMarieforme · 22/07/2024 16:07

Those with ceiling fans, can you recommend any particular ones? My DDs room is like a furnace!

HigglePiggleDy · 22/07/2024 16:22

I'm one of those annoying people who has aircon installed. In my defence, I had a pet chinchilla that was getting too hot - heatstroke is a killer for the little critters. The portable aircon unit wasn't powerful enough, and I was worried he'd bite the cables (free roam in his room). He died three months after I paid £1,000 for it!
However, I now use it about five times a year, and I wouldn't be without it.

HollaHolla · 22/07/2024 16:33

I've got a Dyson fan/purifier thing. In Scotland, so we haven't had the heatwave, but I'm a menopausal woman, and it's got me through many a night. 😰

Just because you’re ok doesn’t mean everyone is.

I just use a big fan on the windowsil to suck in cooler air. Works well!

I'll rephrase my question then. How do you suck in cooler air when it's hot outside. Genuine question.

Maybe we need to create a wormhole or something

QuestionableMouse · 23/07/2024 14:38

Because on a night where I am it's cooler outside at night.

Fantasia fans are excellent with a long guarantee. Make sure you get a big enough one for the room size, read the guide. Mine's over my bed. It's bliss! It is fitted in the ceiling light fitment and has a light too.

JenniferBooth · 24/07/2024 19:25

Bought two thermometers Its 30c in my living room.

EscapeTheCastle · 24/07/2024 20:56

Those of you with split system air conditioning - do you need to have a yearly maintenance appointment? How much does that cost approx?

Sharptonguedwoman · 26/07/2024 13:11

BingoMarieHeeler · 20/07/2024 07:11

Remortgage not necessary. AC Unit in hottest upstairs room which becomes fridge like, and all of upstairs nice and cool. Haven’t actually got it down from the loft yet this year as been so wet (I don’t recommend lofting them, they’re soooo heavy!)

Kids are sleeping on cooling dog mats 😄 (we don’t have a dog, bought them for the kids ha they work so well!)

Edited

Where are you? It's nowhere near hot enough for cooling dog mats where I live, which is southern England.

In your opinion. Maybe your house is cooler than mine??

Wasn’t being funny. When I wrote this the temperature were reaching highs of 20 C max in the day. Cooler at night by about 8 deg. I thought you might be in France or Spain, maybe?

Sharptonguedwoman · 28/07/2024 22:35

Had no idea. Apologies.

Well you did reply a week after my original post, so current temps pretty irrelevant. Not sure why my dog mat usage is questionable really, but whatever.
