We NEED air-conditioning

I'm wide awake and have partially stripped off. All the windows are open but there is no air.

I said to DH that we need AC! I don't care that we only get heat for about three days a year. This perimenopausal woman can't cope! Right now I'd be willing to remortgage our house to pay for it 😂

Our bedroom is in full sun from about midday onwards. We finally gave in last year and had an aircon unit fitted. It's bliss, we put it on about an hour before bed and go in to find the cats and dog have already claimed a space. Usually turn it off when we go to sleep and these last few very hot nights, I put it back on for a bit if I wake in the night. As a bonus its also a heater so if its cold at bedtime I can flick it on and just warm our room. It's a Mitsubishi, cost £1200 and I've not noticed any difference in the electricity bill. Costs £70 a year to service. Best spent money ever

It hit 31 in London today. My DD is in the loft - hottest part of the house - with fan in but tonight will stay in the guest room. I would buy a fan but I'm ok. Just sleep naked!

Last year I decided on AC . I have a theee bedroom house with one living space one bathroom and kitchen. The sun would heat the living room throughout the day and then move around the side of the house making it unbearable. I tried blackout blinds and all sorts of things, including fans with ice packs. Nothing helped so I paid under £2000 for two air conditioning units . They heat the house too and include a fan and then the air con . It's amazing as it is like walking into a fridge. It's not expensive to run either and is less than having central heating on. I've not been hot this heat wave and have slept at night. It took a day to install and could be paid in installments but I paid a deposit then the balance . It has timer so when I get home it's already been programmed so is cool. It's quiet a nd has changed my view of summer .

@bexollie What brand did you get, that you've found quiet and not too expensive? Did you have to choose between brands, or was it just whatever the installers normally recommend/use? Do both units connect to a single outside unit via pipes (concealed in the walls?) thanks.

bexollie · 13/08/2024 10:24

It's mitsubishi and there is one unit on the wall in the living room and one on the landing the piping leads to the unit outside . I've not found it expensive to use and the timer is very good . It's not noisy and is quieter than a fan . Ours is a three bedroom council house and the whole of upstairs in cool with one unit upstairs and I can feel it slightly downstairs too . The company did a free survey and there were two brands to choose from .

thank you! It is something that I will look into one of these days. It's 28 degrees here and was most of the night, despite me shading the windows from outside and having blinds and thermal curtains inside!
