Anyone watching the public disorder in Leeds? Bloody disgusting behaviour. Animals. AIBU to wish police had so many more resources to bring consequences to these absolute excuses for humanity?

To be fair, he doesn't look like he's getting involved at all. He looked scared in that photo.

Lol what no he doesn’t

The Police ran away and left them to it! What sort of message does that send?

Was the baby okay?

NeverMindTheBackProblems · 19/07/2024 00:05

The reporter on Sky News has just said that someone tried to put the bus fire out with a fire extinguisher. There are good people there having to experience this on their doorsteps. It's a miracle that noone has been (reported) injured.

I've watched videos and they're definitely not English. There is audio and the language they are speaking isn't English.

Mnay people born in England can speak more than one language.

The other (racist) thread has been deleted. I see the disingenuous, bad faith posters have joined this one instead.

I pray for calm.🙏

Sorry but I think it’s really unfair to make this about poverty. There are plenty of us here who grew up in difficult financial circumstances and would never think to set the street on fire. I saw a picture of a lad bashing a police car with a scooter, I cannot begin to describe what my mum would have done to me if she found me behaving like that

There are people who are struggling right now who wouldn’t start rioting. There is a difference between being skint and being a criminal.

Thank you. I grew up in quite a deprived area through the 70's and 80's (not easy times)and no one where I lived would have behaved like this. I'd have been more afraid of my mum than the police too.

Leeds has had a large non white population for decades!

Some parts of the city, white faces have been in a minority for decades.

And even then, the majority had been born in the UK!

Being born in the UK means nothing to the DM when it is shit-stirring. It only supports: middle/upper-class, middle-aged and older white, English,C of E, Tory males and their institutions (public schools, cricket clubs, golf clubs, gentlemen's clubs, horse-racing etc), and animals.

It hates everyone else- women, LQBT+, other races, other religions, anyone under 50, anyone state-school educated or who works for a public service, celebs( I am with them on that one), and spiders and sharks.

AlsMam · 19/07/2024 00:09

Harehills and Chapeltown area of Leeds has always been a no-go area for the Police.

PoliteCritic · 19/07/2024 00:09

It is not a no go area.

Obeseandashamed · 19/07/2024 00:09

@Michigan5 To me he does 😅😬 Perhaps I'm not the best judge of character. However I have just come across a train wreck of an interview he gave to a user named Zahid noor on TikTok . He says he helped Tom protect the polite and helped to get the driver and passengers from the bus off. The start of the interview sounds like he's giving sympathy to the rioters though. It's all very confusing. He does look bewildered though

Tremendous comment. 👍

I’m surprised you can recognize tremendous comments, or know the difference. You seem quite, well, limited.

Well done, @suburberphobe.

ApocalypseNowt · 19/07/2024 00:14

Well the helicopters are still circling and I can hear voices outside. It's quite unsettling tbh.

DayIntarnishedarmour · 19/07/2024 00:14

It's not only the poverty though. It's the drugs, the lack of access to decent education and healthcare, (often justified) distrust of authority, lack of support for those who want to make life better for the communities, the racial tensions that have been stirred up by government over the last decade ....

The streets where all this is happening is 2 mins from St James Hospital. Part of a huge trust and is a teaching hospital. Yes the NHS is beset by problems but I’ve been an outpatient in 4 departments there for over 4O years and the care has been excellent. It’s also a few minutes from Roundhay School ( Liz Truss’s alma mater). It’s rated outstanding in ofsted inspections for many years. There’s also a massive and beautiful city park nearby. Harehills has been home to many waves of immigration. My family lived there when they first came to the UK. There’s been Jewish, Eastern European, Pakistani, Punjabi, Afghani communities there. Trouble has flared up over the years. There’s been riots before. There’s an undercurrent of unease there and in other areas of the city. The last few years there’s a feeling that many people are on the edge and are utterly pissed off, stressed out, struggling and disengaged.

Edited

You left out the Royal Family, minus the Sussexes.
The DM are some of the biggest RF suck ups and some of the biggest Sussex haters.
They’re also big on American right-wing politicians and Donald Trump - but that might be the US version of DM.

You obviously didn't grow up in Toxteth/Tottenham/Chapeltown. Riots go hand in hand with Tory rule.

Morning Ali was on one of the live videos telling them to stop, video of him helping out out one of the fires now

I went to twitter. It is awful, so much racism. But there is also a video from the father. He says him and his wife were at work and the 5 kids were at home. One of the kids dropped the 7 month old baby on its head. He is complaining it is an accident, but they took all his kids into care.

If poverty is the excuse then why does location matter?

Vespanest · 19/07/2024 00:25

All I hope is no one needs an ambulance tonight in that part of Leeds. The police retreating and leaving them to it for the safety of the force is extremely concerning.

Aye, that'll tend to happen if you leave a baby in a house with no adults. Father of the year he isn't 🙄
