Anyone watching the public disorder in Leeds? Bloody disgusting behaviour. Animals. AIBU to wish police had so many more resources to bring consequences to these absolute excuses for humanity?

Gosh. I’ve just seen a house in flames on X. These scenes are terrible.

That's not what I'm seeing - the guy punching the police car is a middle-aged, tattooed white man; the one whacking it with a scooter is also a white man. The crowd round the three or four police are made up of white and Asian descent, the lads staring at the police car on its side are 2 white and 2 Asian descent. I was assuming the middle-aged tattooed guy was a born and bred Yorkshireman of Norse origin who'd had one too many pints of bitter int' pub tonight....

Tattoo man and the child (according to the Daily Mail) with the scooter look Asian, as does the vast majority of a crowd confronting police.

OonaStubbs · 18/07/2024 23:34

These people make me embarrassed to be British. There's no excuses for it. Leeds is a major city, with a thriving financial sector. There's plenty of good jobs. These people just aren't interested in them because they require intelligence and self-discipline.

Krupkrups · 18/07/2024 23:34

I’m really surprised the Social Services in Leeds have gone in they’re normally not very responsive would be putting it mildly. Must have been bad for them to have removed the children.

OhHelloMiss · 18/07/2024 23:34

It's just a fire near a house

It's not on fire

EasternStandard · 18/07/2024 23:36

Looks bad

BiscuityBoyle · 18/07/2024 23:36

From what I’m reading online, the family that the children were taken from were Romanian. I don’t know if it is the Romanian community that is rioting or if this has just set of a lot of tension under the surface.

justasking111 · 18/07/2024 23:38

Friends lived in Toxteth in 1981. That was really bad they said.

I said 'on the whole' and if you watch the videos that is even more the case. I don't know the area of Leeds- possibly there are fewer white people live there. But the DM has, as ever, its own agenda in what it chooses to print. I'm sure it could have found more balanced photos/videos but it chooses not to. It's shit-stirring as ever about race and religion.

Leeds has had a large non white population for decades!

Some parts of the city, white faces have been in a minority for decades.

And even then, the majority had been born in the UK!

Just went to look at twiX, backed out and left. I needed a shower. It's like a party political broadcast on behalf of Britain First.

The true unheard are all the poor and deprived people who have to live among criminals and rioters. They get kicked about by the rich and the feral, but nobody ever pays attention to them.

This is so bloody true.

This morning on the school run I saw a teenage boy hold a machete to the throat of an obvious drug user. Inner London. Me and my kids (and many others) had to hide in a train station until they’d resolved their disagreement. Police called - no one came. This stuff happens on our streets daily. A few years ago I’d have told you I wouldn’t move away from where I live for anything, I’m born and bred, I wanted to raise my kids here. But now I’d move out in a heartbeat and every single decent family I know feels the same. Our communities are being destroyed by violence and lawlessness while rich people buy up fancy new builds in the same streets. The rich don’t care because they get to send their kids to private school, live in a gated complex and generally move in their own circles, the scum don’t care because they are, well, scum, and all the people in the middle just have to get on with it, doing the best we can to raise decent human beings against the odds.

Krupkrups · 18/07/2024 23:44

@LuluBlakey1 I know the area well and there are fewer white people that live there compared to other areas of Leeds to say otherwise would be a lie.

Pictures of the Green Party MP Mothin Ali spotted among the crowd according to Oli London

To be fair, he doesn't look like he's getting involved at all. He looked scared in that photo.

Wonder how many of these are being kept by the taxpayer who then has to foot the bill to clean up the stuff they smash.

But someone will be along soon to lecture everyone about how under privileged they are so let them smash a few things because it’s progressive innit.

Progressive politics and policies do not support the violent destruction of property and pointless rioting.

They may try to understand and solve the root cause of societal problems that contribute to this type situation, but they do not support, excuse or condone it.

They do have access to education and healthcare. They aren’t living in Haiti for gods sake. Do you know why they don’t trust authorities, because they are behaving in a way that brings them to the attention of authorities.

Edited

They have access to schools that closed for a year, to hospitals with 12 hour waits for ambulances and 24 month waits for surgery. And they're earning, on average, 40% less than they should do according to inflation, which has a big effect when you're at the bottom anyway, wage wise. Yes, not quite Haiti, but also not the elysian fields.

Oh please let's be honest most of them out causing trouble in Leeds aren't the "vulnerable" or the "unheard" what a load of bollocks! They don't have a "cause", they're just horrible little shits who are jumping on the bandwagon cos they know they can get away with it, they enjoy causing trouble, and they come in every colour and every race and you get them in every city.

Amen 🙏 go anywhere in the world, get a group of people of any race, class, religion or colour, and some people will be dicks who ruin things for everyone else. Twas ever thus.

As my grandad used to say ‘being an arsehole is an equal opportunities activity’.

Comefromaway · 18/07/2024 23:48

I knew nothing of this. My son is in Leeds. He lives in the city centre but tonight is at his girlfriends in Woodhouse.

Biggleslefae · 18/07/2024 23:49

I pray that calm will be restored.

mimblewimble · 18/07/2024 23:52

I'm with the pps who talked about this stemming firstly from issues around poverty and deprivation.

I live in a really diverse midlands city and worked for a while in an estate here which was one of the most deprived areas of the whole country. There were pockets of the estate we were told not to go into for our safety. Police cars/fire engines were regularly attacked. Stuff set on fire. People would call 999 to get the emergency services out, then throw bricks at them or smash up their vehicles. Something like tonight's scenes would have been entirely possible there.

And that was a predominantly white British community

It would be at best a massive oversimplification to look at pictures from tonight and just blame it on race/religion or immigration. There's so much more underlying it.

I hope it can be resolved without further escalation and that people stay safe.

serialcatbuyer · 18/07/2024 23:56

I don't think it's about poverty and deprivation it's about authorities taking people's children. I'm sure the protesters have more of an idea of what happened than we do

user1471508666 · 18/07/2024 23:57

Harehills is a shit hole. It doesn’t surprise me that people are behaving like animals.
These people give others in their culture and race a bad name and they’re the reason for racism etc.
But these people don’t care, they couldn’t care less that some people on here are trying to defend them with their poverty excuses.
I grew up in Leeds, in a well known estate not far from there that also had its issues in the 90’s. Doesn’t mean we all behaved like animals.

How can you tell from photos if someone is not English?

I've watched videos and they're definitely not English. There is audio and the language they are speaking isn't English.
