To ask which dog breed you think is most represented in the media?

Can't work out if my mind is playing tricks on me or if my puppy is the most used dog type in advertising/branding/television shows etc.

I'm aware of Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon so I'm wondering if it's that (or confirmation bias??).

So I'm trying for objectivity here 😂.

Which breed do you think you see most often? And useful to know if it's your breed or one that's close to your heart?

Puppy tax will be paid later so not to sway your responses.

Lab.

Scottishskifun · 17/07/2024 14:39

Labrador typically I would say. Multiple films, dramas, adverts etc.

Not a breed close to my heart I love sighthounds but labradors are very trainable and will do most things for a snack so makes sense!

Vroomfondleswaistcoat · 17/07/2024 14:40

I'd say Labradors or 'poo dogs (of various types, all poodle crosses). I also see a fair few Jack Russells when a 'terrier type' is called for.

My dog's breed is under represented. Probably because they tend to be little bastards.

Farkinell · 17/07/2024 14:44

Yes I asked a friend yesterday and her response was Lab.

Which isn't mine 😂

Cockerpoos, spaniels, labs, Westies, Border Terriers all make frequent appearances.

Pugs and doodles, but mostly pugs. This is despite advertising guidelines recommending avoiding promoting brachycephalic breeds. 😞

Demonhunter · 17/07/2024 14:47

Labs on TV,
Goldens, huskies, corgis, chihuahuas and frenchies on SM

ShillingForLabour · 17/07/2024 14:47

Not a dog owner, but Labrador, then border terriers (or similar like Cairn terriers), then probably alsatians.

She's a Patterdale. Very intelligent and yet...

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 17/07/2024 14:47

Dachshund?

Creu · 17/07/2024 14:48

The labrador - it's everywhere!

I'm not a dog person so no confirmation bias for me. Don't tend to notice many other breeds.

MrsTerryPratchett · 17/07/2024 14:48

One of those ubiquitous yellow ones.

OrwellianTimes · 17/07/2024 14:50

Labrador

Followed by pug, huskies, dauchunds, and sheep dogs.

Farkinell · 17/07/2024 14:50

Ooh just looked up Patterdale very cute.

The word lively is used a lot 😂

Gosh I didn't know that about the pugs. I guess Frenchies are covered in that too?

I do see a lot of those two on products etc, they're very on trend I think.

The Patterdale looks like a bull terrier without the pug snout. The same ears, stance and attitude.

Sosorryliver · 17/07/2024 14:52

Labrador. I have one so perhaps see them everywhere. They are popular dogs with good pr. From the Andrex puppy through to guide dogs.

CormorantStrikesBack · 17/07/2024 14:53

Sausage dogs

It's a breed that arose from multi crossing. There's whippet and Fell terrier, and a smattering of very angry wolf.

Yes, she said wearily. Lively is one word for them. It's a good job I love her, that's all.

Whithersoever · 17/07/2024 15:18

Dogs bright enough to take instructions about what to do in shoots etc - so collie or poodle/poodle crosses. Poss spaniel.

Elphame · 17/07/2024 15:20

Various poodle crosses, especially when white and fluffy

And Welsh terriers oddly! They seem to be having a real media moment in catalogues and print adverts

Waitingfordoggo · 17/07/2024 15:23

Labs, spaniels, Jack Russels, Border Collies, Border Terriers and sausages are probably the ones I’m most aware of seeing often on screen and in digital media. Also pugs and Frenchies, which is a shame due to the breeding and health issues, as PP noted.

But thinking more on it, I see quite a lot of a particular dog but I don’t know what it is 😂 Medium-large, hairy and quite scruffy. Would have thought they were mongrels but may well be a proper breed
