Can't work out if my mind is playing tricks on me or if my puppy is the most used dog type in advertising/branding/television shows etc.

I'm aware of Baader-Meinhoff phenomenon so I'm wondering if it's that (or confirmation bias??).

So I'm trying for objectivity here 😂.

Which breed do you think you see most often? And useful to know if it's your breed or one that's close to your heart?

Puppy tax will be paid later so not to sway your responses.

Labrador typically I would say. Multiple films, dramas, adverts etc.

Not a breed close to my heart I love sighthounds but labradors are very trainable and will do most things for a snack so makes sense!

Sighthound are beautiful 😍

Have you seen this sighthound TikTok - it's hilarious 😂

A golden?

veritusvarity · 17/07/2024 17:32

In the US I'd say Goldie, and it's not surprising, they are beautiful dogs, generally very biddable and highly trainable.
In the Uk, there seems to be more variety. I've seen labs, various poos, Old English, Collies and of course the British bull dog!

TheTempest · 17/07/2024 17:33

Labs, GR, spaniels and Dashunds I think. I had a Patterdale who we lost last October aged 18 1/2. Who remained bonkers right up until her last week, I adored her but she was hands down the hardest dog I’ve ever had!

I say that about mine. Forty years of dog ownership, I've had all the 'nut case' breeds but the Patterdale almost broke me. Sorry about the loss of yours, they leave such a big hole when they go... actually, this one is leaving quite large holes and she's still here...

OP - Machete is unbearably squishable looking!!

Wahine24 · 17/07/2024 18:13

@Farkinell machete is an interesting choice of name! He looks like a right cutie all gentle and fluffy

Pippatpip · 17/07/2024 18:18

Daschunds. Hundres of dashies. No rough collies apart from the one on the train ad. Border collies and labs are fairly ubiquitous.

RealHousewivesOfTaunton · 17/07/2024 18:19

Labrador or pug. I don't really like dogs.

bridgetreilly · 17/07/2024 18:20

Golden retriever.

ErrolTheDragon · 17/07/2024 19:05

Dachshunds are probably the most used on clothing, mugs, bags etc.

Which was always handy when buying stocking fillers for DD.

Well.. dozens at least...

stayathomer · 17/07/2024 19:11

Also Labradors- everywhere on ads, don’t actually see many now in real life (compared to 90s, 00s when they were everywhere! In real life I see jack russells, huskies and cockapoos everywhere!!

Wedoourish · 17/07/2024 19:11

Jack Russell Terriers. I own a parsons terrier.

Haha no I hadn't! A lot of it is true but they missed the best thing about sighthounds....when they chitter because they are happy! I've only known it in sighthound breeds.

We have a greyhound saluki cross she's known as the Princess and has her own pj's as she gets cold and whines at us 😂

Very loveable and easy going dogs though

Cost of Living, innit?

Nobody can afford that level of food and bin related vet incidents.

There's lots of black labs round here, I think quite few are working gundogs.

Oh no, I've never heard them chitter 😭 I'll need to search for that.

The Princess sounds absolutely gorgeous and so she should have her own jammies. I hope they have crowns on them 🤣👑

Dearg · 17/07/2024 19:24

Well, a bit late to the party, but I would have said Golden. I see them everywhere, especially my instagram feed.
But despite loving Goldens, I have 2 black labs. And together, they shed less than the one golden I grew up with.

Artexorpaint · 17/07/2024 19:27

I live with a Saluki. This is 100% accurate in every way.

legacyflygirl · 17/07/2024 19:59

Maybe it is confirmation bias - I think you see a lot of these! Although, easily mistaken for collies, which lots of people have mentioned!

Hasbean2 · 17/07/2024 20:02

Oof I'm not sure I'd name a dog machete.
Maybe it's because of the high levels of machete incidents where I am but that made me wince a bit

Would you call your dog knife?

I'd say Labradors or 'poo dogs (of various types, all poodle crosses). I also see a fair few Jack Russells when a 'terrier type' is called for.

My dog's breed is under represented. Probably because they tend to be little bastards.

Patterdale here 🤪 So handsome and photogenic but wouldn't do what he was told for anyone and the ad would be ruined by him attempting to bite any other furry or feathered friends 😳
