Name changed because it’s kinda recognizable.

Went to a gig and the singer made eye contact with me!!! I waved. And he waved back!

im 43. My friends are thinking I’m mad, but I’ve told my friends not to worry

My husband (we’ll call him Paul) is in pieces about it

I do not know what all the troubles are for

I have never heard of The National or their singer yet a pp says, "They're a massive band". Really? Are they?

Hubby says a decade ago...

Bbq1 · 17/07/2024 18:24

Just googled them. Still, never heard of themnor theiir musiic. They are all very ordinary looking older men but each to their own!. Definitely no need for "Paul" to be getting upset!

absolutely average looking middle aged liberal American men. It’s Matt’s voice; the lyrics capture relationships, the general feeling of anxiety some of us face

please tell me that as a grown woman you have thought it appropriate to say “my husband says”…. If your husband isn’t in pieces, I don’t want to know

Love this thread!
I was at a gig for my favourite band a few months ago. I managed to squeeze in near the front but at the side of the stage. It wasn’t the best view (I couldn’t see the drummer at all..!) but every time the singer walked across the stage, I was in his direct line of sight. We had a lot of eye contact and at the end he made a beeline to me to shake my hand (and then went along the front row shaking everyone else’s hands, so I’m not kidding myself it was that special for him!). I still quietly smile to myself at times when I think about it.

The only difference is that I always go see them alone to I can fangirl them in private!

PS to the person who met Travis, I’m v jealous! I met them about 20 years ago and they were all so lovely.

Who was the singer OP? Can't make my mind up until I know

This! 😁

BrutusMcDogface · 17/07/2024 19:22

Ah ffs, why do I always post before realising there are loads of pages already?! 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

off to google the band.

My son got called a legend by one of his favourite singers and I caught it on video.

Every time he has a drink, his poor girlfriend is subject to the story and the video.

Absolutely made his entire life though.

Also I'm pretty sure Howard Donald and I had a moment when I was seeing Take That recently, but I decided against pursuing it 🤣

Well you’re v lucky having a moment with Howard! I love him 😍😍😘 but he can be rather ‘detached’ (🤣) on stage! I’ve had a wave off him in 2017 but nothing since! Despite being right in front of him and embarrasing myself enormously to get his attention on two tours since (just mad waving and maybe a little gentle calling of his name 😝). However in 2019 I got full eyes and waves from Gary and Mark! So I think my work here is done! I won’t even tell you how old I am.. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️

I also saw them in Edinburgh last week! I never thought I'd hear Baby We'll be fine live😍

I'm pleased to say they're still all lovely. Fran chatted with us for ages as did Neil and Andy, although Andy looked shattered. Dougie did keep us waiting a bit longer but he apparently had friends there, he was still happy to speak to everyone when he came out though. I had to nip away after getting a selfie with him though as my poor back and knees aren't what they were and I'd already been on my feet for a few hours by that point.

Here's my second arm signature (upside-down). Fran really tried to make the pen work on my arm and even held my hand to steady my arm while he did it. Grin I didn't get a x on the first one so this is definitely the better one. Grin

Icepop79 · 17/07/2024 21:29

@Tarkan So glad to hear they’re still so lovely. I’m seeing them when they tour later in the year. I might have to hang around the stage door!

Tarkan · 17/07/2024 21:48

@Icepop79 - I would totally recommend doing it. Grin Fran obviously looks a bit different to back in the day (I swear the others haven't really changed) but honestly when I got the hug from him for the selfie and I got to smell him, I didn't care. I mean I don't exactly look the same now either. My t-shirt sleeve smelled like him for a few hours afterwards and a friend in a pub later on caught me sniffing it. BlushGrin I definitely have a little crush on him again after all these years.

I am in my 60s and had a very fan girl moment about 20 years ago when my teenage idol toured the UK for the first time in years and I got to meet him.

It was wonderful 🥰

Was it David Cassidy?

BirdIsBoredOfFlying · 17/07/2024 22:53

Ah which FR gig did you miss? I last saw them in Glasgow on the Midnight Organ Fight anniversary tour. I met Scott at a gig in Coda once - my fav musician of all time :'(

In fairness I was at the very front, in a position that it’s likely it was me he was waving to. Young guy beside me was more excited for me than I was, bless.

OP I am so jealous - I was there too we were stuck up in the stands. I felt like I was light years away 😢

FailBetter · 17/07/2024 23:13

OOH!
Lovely for you.
I just looked at the set list.
They played my favourite - The system only dreams in total darkness
Fab. I am jealous OP (not so much about Matt - if you squint he's a bit like Steven Spielberg) but a gig at that venue. Would love that.

Tillow4ever · 23/07/2024 19:39

This is totally outing becauseI bore everyone with this story…. But the chances of anyone I know reading this thread and every page is slim so screw it!

I’m a massive Leicester City fan, used to go everywhere in the 90’s watching them play - and Steve Walsh was my hero and teenage crush. Fast forward to around 2011/2012 and I followed him on Twitter - he even replied to me a few times which made my day. He was organising a charity match in my home town, and as part of the day he put on a free kids academy match with Matt Piper. So one of my boys wanted to take part - I volunteered to take him down there. Went over to Steve afterwards to get a selfie, started to say “hi, I’m Tillow4ever, I follow you on Twitter” and he replied “yes, I know who you are”. Ooops!

Anyway, I got my selfie and made it my Facebook profile picture…. A few months later he joined Facebook and accepted my friend request so I very quickly switched the photo to stop me from looking like a mad stalker 😂😂😂

Honestly though, having your favourite celeb acknowledge they see you in some way sends you right back to your teenage self so fan girl all you want OP. At least you haven’t accidentally stored their mobile phone number into your phone that you got from an email! 👀 (I’ve never used it)

I went a bit fan girl when I met Anthony Stewart Head too - I told him I had got his album and he was a bit like “oh, where did you find that” (very niche, can’t imagine many people bought it as he was an actor who could sing if that makes sense).
