Name changed because it’s kinda recognizable.

Went to a gig and the singer made eye contact with me!!! I waved. And he waved back!

im 43. My friends are thinking I’m mad, but I’ve told my friends not to worry

My husband (we’ll call him Paul) is in pieces about it

@JoanCollected

I suppose 'I get it'.

though I don't get crushes myself. Never have, much to my friends confusion!

but why the hell dors it bother you, it has no impact on your life. At all. Especially if you don't open threads to sneer.

just let them crack on with it.

I think I'm still remembering a girl in my school who saw a very b-list celeb visit our school and she roared and threw herself on the ground screaming that she'd touched him as he passed by. It was mortifying and it put me off celebrity fan stuff for life! It doesnt bother me except when I see it in action. It seems so mindless.

Awwww DH is a huge National fan, so much so we walked down the aisle to one of their records when we married 4 years ago.

Shame the weather didn't get the memo, though

You know you are deluded here right?

If you are looking at a crowd, if you look slightly above the eyeline towards a section, about 10 people will think you are making eye contact with them!

A person on stage has bright lights at them and really can't distinguish individual faces.

And then theres this: Cringe is the word

In fairness I was at the very front, in a position that it’s likely it was me he was waving to. Young guy beside me was more excited for me than I was, bless.

I have never heard of The National or their singer yet a pp says, "They're a massive band". Really? Are they?

Oblivions - I had never even heard of the band before DH but it was perfect.

LynnAP · 17/07/2024 16:08

Op thank you for telling us about today, I was also there but maybe you didn't see me? I was falling apart!

This is something you can look back on when you're old and grey sitting on your framed chair drinking pink rabbits

I bet you’re fun to be around. Christ.

Apolloneuro · 17/07/2024 16:16

Well I’ve no idea who the band are, but it’s good for Paul know to know his wife’s still got it.

Yup: Google them (other search engines are available)

I promise: we’re not gatekeeping them

This has brought me great joy! I'd have LOVED to have been at the Edinburgh Castle gig but I have a 10 week old EBF baby. He's worth it, but only just! Happy for you, OP!

Thanks so much!! Enjoy your new baby!

i missed a frightened rabbit gig because I was heavily pregnant (and nope, the chance didn’t come round again sadly)

When I was 17 I had eye contact with Prince, right at the front of the stage. He was sitting down so I jumped up and down waving. He frowned at me I got up. I ,think it meant he was in love with me.
He also had a very nice shade of purple eyeshadow on.

'My husband (we’ll call him Humpty) is in pieces about it'

It's a shame that all the king's horses and all the king's men couldn't put Humpty together again.

oldidiot24 · 17/07/2024 17:52

Ahh I love these threads.

NC for this because I always talk about this, but I was at the front at an Incubus gig in the dodgy 2000s, grabbed Brandon Boyd's foot, and got swiftly dragged off by the bouncers.

It was an amazing occasion. My husband just rolls his eyes and smiles when I bring it up.

Bbq1 · 17/07/2024 18:24

Just googled them. Still, never heard of themnor theiir musiic. They are all very ordinary looking older men but each to their own!. Definitely no need for "Paul" to be getting upset!

Kidsfortea · 17/07/2024 18:41

Before I retired my business was somewhere that booked singers, bands etc. we used to fill their riders and feed them. I was working on my other half's birthday and that weekend we were feeding Sofie Ellis Bexter. She is his favourite girl crush. She recorded a lovely message for him. He is still so proud of it 😂😂😂

Why do the people of Mumsnet take everything so literally. The post is obviously light hearted and it's obvious her husband isn't really in pieces about it.

Are a lot of MN'ers ND I wonder quite often. No offence intended.

Rude!

ruethewhirl · 17/07/2024 18:51

The snark on this thread is so unnecessary. Can't anyone post a thread that is clearly intended to be light-hearted any more?

Createausername1970 · 17/07/2024 18:57

I am in my 60s and had a very fan girl moment about 20 years ago when my teenage idol toured the UK for the first time in years and I got to meet him.

It was wonderful 🥰
