Name changed because it’s kinda recognizable.

Went to a gig and the singer made eye contact with me!!! I waved. And he waved back!

im 43. My friends are thinking I’m mad, but I’ve told my friends not to worry

My husband (we’ll call him Paul) is in pieces about it

I KNEW you were going to say Matt, OP. A friend recently cried because he came so close to her in the crowd and he was overwhelmed. The man clearly has something.

We were at their gig in Manchester on 4th July and they were playing Mr November as the exit polls came out at 10pm. A mind blowing moment

Bbq1 · 17/07/2024 14:18

Matt who?

AmericanCatherineMary · 17/07/2024 11:52

Yes! He was gutted.. kept saying that “I need my girl”

You fucking what?!

KreedKafer · 17/07/2024 14:32

This is SO weird

All the OP’s posts read to me like an extended in-joke for a select few, the kind of thing the bitchy girls at school used to do in order to exclude people.

Bemorelikemairead · 17/07/2024 14:33

@Insidelaurashead
Yes! I was there too and it was amazing

Oh, and a quick Google informs me I’m correct.

YANBU to fan-girl over your favourite singer and share that with Mumsnet. YABU to do it in a way that you know full well 95% of people won’t understand. It’s not school.

FunIsland · 17/07/2024 14:35

I’m so confused; is Paul happy or sad?

Paul is very, very sad. He thinks a famous singer is going to steal his girl. Very, very sad indeed.

The National are a massive band. But honestly, the National fans are generally very very geeky. Promise, we’re not mean girls

You know you are deluded here right?

If you are looking at a crowd, if you look slightly above the eyeline towards a section, about 10 people will think you are making eye contact with them!

A person on stage has bright lights at them and really can't distinguish individual faces.

And then theres this: Cringe is the word

Nooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!

He is full of Sorrow.

Worldgonecrazy · 17/07/2024 15:05

Having been on stage, if the lights aren’t shining directly in your eyes, you can usually see the first couple of rows, slightly more at smaller gigs. Some band members often recognise regular gig goers too and will give them a wave, thumbs up, nod or shout out.

tuvamoodyson · 17/07/2024 15:06

GalileoHumpkins · 17/07/2024 10:52

it's obvious her husband isn't really in pieces about it

Is it? Maybe Paul is a sobbing and shaking mess over this, you don't know any more than the rest of us.

Yes ‘Paul’ Will be on here soon enough ‘My girl waved at a man, he waved back, is this cheating?’

Exactlab · 17/07/2024 15:10

Regalia · 17/07/2024 06:10

A singer waved at you and your husband is ‘in pieces’ because he finds it ‘graceless’?

I love the drama of it!! 😝

Iloveyoubut · 17/07/2024 15:14

KreedKafer · 17/07/2024 10:41

Have you also been drinking ‘all the wine’, because it kind of sounds like that.

Why did you need to add ‘let’s call him Paul’ about your husband? You don’t need to call him anything. You can just say ‘my husband’.

Oh bore off! OP can do and say what she liked, jeez talk about sucking the fun out of life. So what if she was on the wine, she sounded really happy, is that what the problem is? What’s the point of coming along to literally try and make something miserable for no reason. It’s so mean spirited for literally no reason!

FunIsland · 17/07/2024 15:15

Clearly you need to have some sort of insider knowledge to understand what’s going on here.

KatiesMumWoof · 17/07/2024 15:25

JoanCollected · 17/07/2024 12:18

I just simply don’t get the fawning over celebs. It bothers me that people are so easily influenced by others based on so little.

Total killjoy I know. But I don’t get it.

@JoanCollected

I suppose 'I get it'.

though I don't get crushes myself. Never have, much to my friends confusion!

but why the hell dors it bother you, it has no impact on your life. At all. Especially if you don't open threads to sneer.

just let them crack on with it.

ashtyler · 17/07/2024 15:26

Hozier. Gotta be.

ashtyler · 17/07/2024 15:27

Whoops, finally RTFT 😉

TheBizzies · 17/07/2024 15:30

I was at a West Ham match years ago when Joe Hart was goalie and he winked at me! He's been officially my boyfriend (in my head) ever since 😃

my husband was like did he reaaaaaaly 🤔

I mean what a buzzkill 🙄 🤣

TheBizzies · 17/07/2024 15:31

Oh no did I miss something in my haste to tell you all about my imaginary love affair?

GoingDownLikeBHS · 17/07/2024 15:35

I think the only way forward here is to get Paul to put something in writing, maybe log it with 111.

Funkyslippers · 17/07/2024 15:36

I saw my favourite (female) singer 20 years ago and she looked me right in the eye as I was right at the front and dancing like a loon. Made my night

I also shared a sauna with a well known female presenter. We chatted for a while. She then came in the open plan changing room where DD & I were. We chatted some more. She was v friendly. When she left DD said " mum, you're such a try-hard!"
