Hey guys . I have two daughters 13 and 10.They demolish my shopping within a couple of days . I make the three standard meals a day ,breakfast is cereal and toast . Lunch the standard toastie , sandwich or soap .Dinners are the normal array that u would expect . Snacks r fruit chocolates and crisps . I also buy many different variety’s of breads . I’m exasperated as everything is eaten after two days . My Children do lots of sport but my God it’s so bloody expensive

Stop buying the snacks then. My DC were the same so I ended up buying Carrots, cucumbers and peppers, chopping them all up and putting them in tubs in the fridge. They eat the crisps because they're an easy grab, you just need to replace that with another easy grab!

And no I don't make a whole chicken last 3 weeks or eat massive salads 😂

Teamarugula · 15/07/2024 22:20

Cereal, crisps and chocolate are not filling. You need to give them fibre and protein like porridge, beans or eggs on wholemeal toast (don’t bother with white bread), hummus and carrot sticks etc.

EKnaring · 15/07/2024 22:21

Forgive me @lilynicole but I’m creased at you saying you do soap for lunch 😂

HighHeelsOnCobblestones · 15/07/2024 22:24

I know the feeling; the supermarket is my second home.

I try to give them more protein but still, if I'm not at work or in the house, you'll likely find me in the shop!

dementedpixie · 15/07/2024 22:26

I thought this was going to be about baked snacks 😂

PossumintheHouse · 15/07/2024 22:28

Hahahaha. Here we go... 😂

CatamaranViper · 15/07/2024 22:28

Yeah but if it's eaten then it's eaten. We don't buy replacements until the next week so if DS and DH eat it all in 2 days, they just don't have it until we've done the food shop again.

Your feeding them crap between meals, crap designed to make them want more. Eliminate the crap and only provide healthy snacks, slow release carbs rather cereals (which are also crap) and toast (bread), so bran flakes or porridge. Toasty again is bread with quick release carbs. Soup really isn't that filling and is mainly water so doesn't require digestion like solid food.

Are they overweight? I think probably not as you would say...so they have a through put of calories, enough in to provide the energy required, you need to shift the calories..say to home made pasta salad, actual salad, chicken dishes, home made tortillas and wraps...all more filling and cheaper

Perfectlystill · 15/07/2024 22:30

They're not getting much protein, that's probably why they're always hungry.

Less bread/toast and more eggs/meat/fish!

Perfectlystill · 15/07/2024 22:30

Ps I also clicked on this hoping for some nice crisp chat

Lavender14 · 15/07/2024 22:31

I would try to build in more complex fibre to the diet and more protein. Even things like wholemeal toast and peanut butter for a snack will fill for longer than crisps and chocolate. We used to add mashed potato to our soup as well (depending on the soup) to bulk it out and make it more filling.

I totally came on this thread to debate the beef ones being the best!

You aren't allowed to eat crisps on MN without self flagellating in front of a statue of Chris Van Tulleken

I was fully on board to champion the pickled onion myself!! 😅

SwanRivers · 15/07/2024 22:34

Buy one type of bread and stop buying chocolate and crisps 🤷‍♀️

I'm assuming they get some sort of pocket money?

If they want snacks they can buy their own.

Demonhunter · 15/07/2024 22:39

Pickled onion for me. I once left my hospital room in Tarragona (with nurses permission) and walked up the high street in my pj's to go to the shop that sold British snacks cos I was craving them and my friends and boss couldnt visit that day. Was well worth the looks like I'd lost my marbles 😋

RubberyChicken · 15/07/2024 22:52

Soap for lunch, yummmm

Ditto! I've just put some on my delivery for Thursday!! Love the pickled onion flavour ones!

TheSixQuarks · 15/07/2024 22:56

I only came on to say Flamin' Hot are the bomb.

OnGoldenPond · 15/07/2024 22:59

Massively disappointed that this isn't about the famous crisps brand. Was going to ask if anyone remembered beef burger flavour from the 1980s. I bloody loved them when I was at school Grin

TheSixQuarks · 15/07/2024 22:56

I only came on to say Flamin' Hot are the bomb.

I once found a ball of Flamin’ Hot seasoning at the bottom of the bag that was bigger than my thumbnail. It was amazing. Nearly turned my face inside out with the spice and sourness.

OP- things like cereal and bread aren’t all that nutritious or filling. More protein should keep them fuller for longer.

Noseybookworm · 15/07/2024 22:59

Cut out the crisps and chocolate and let them snack on more filling and protein/fibre rich foods - boiled eggs/cheese & ham frittata/overnight oats with chia seeds & fruit/wholewheat and seeded toast with peanut butter and banana. Raw veg chopped up with hummus is good too. Switch your bread/pasta/rice to wholewheat - it's much more filling and nutritionally dense. Protein smoothies are filling and can be chocolate flavoured if they want something sweet.

SeththeSloth · 15/07/2024 23:08

Tried the new barbecue flavour Monster Munch. Very disappointing. The texture was all wrong, they tasted almost healthy. Going back to roast beef and flamin’ hot!

Iwontlethtesungodownonme · 15/07/2024 23:09

I want to join the pickled onion bench please.
