Hey guys . I have two daughters 13 and 10.They demolish my shopping within a couple of days . I make the three standard meals a day ,breakfast is cereal and toast . Lunch the standard toastie , sandwich or soap .Dinners are the normal array that u would expect . Snacks r fruit chocolates and crisps . I also buy many different variety’s of breads . I’m exasperated as everything is eaten after two days . My Children do lots of sport but my God it’s so bloody expensive

OP posts:

Tried the new barbecue flavour Monster Munch. Very disappointing. The texture was all wrong, they tasted almost healthy. Going back to roast beef and flamin’ hot!

Have you tried BBQ Quavers?

They're amazing! But I can only get them in variety packs at the moment.

StJanetof · 15/07/2024 23:11

Very misleading title. For the record, I prefer pickled onion.

WildLemur · 15/07/2024 23:12

Yeah, pickled onion is clearly the best.

dementedpixie · 15/07/2024 22:26

I thought this was going to be about baked snacks 😂

I was skimming the OP looking for a mention of ‘beef flavour’ as that’s obviously the best out of the three!

longdistanceclaraclara · 15/07/2024 23:14

I thought this would be complaining about the pitiful size of monster munch these days...

Give them hummous, cheese, peanut butter sandwiches, frittata etc

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 15/07/2024 23:18

‘Soap for lunch, yummmm’

Foaming at the mouth…

AmelieTaylor · 15/07/2024 23:19

Soap for lunch, yummmm

@RubberyChicken

one bubble or 2

🤣🤣

Whattodo1610 · 15/07/2024 23:20

I’m genuinely confused at the title???

As for the flavour debate - all 3 for me! No favourite, just depends on mood as to what flavour I fancy at the time 😋

SwordToFlamethrower · 15/07/2024 23:21

Pickled onion. My mouth is watering as a
I type

Mumofcirrus · 15/07/2024 23:22

Mum of 6 here (all grown now) We were on one income so afterschool kids came home to pikelets. 2 min noodles ( 5 boys) or sandwiches. If they were hungry after dinner it was bread with no spread. (something a mum friend of mine did with 10 children) no orange juice, only water- far better anyway. Treat was a Milo. Get your kids involved in helping save the pennies. Tell them that food is expensive and I'm sure they will be ok about no chocolate and chips. Chips to me is a treat. Good luck.

Airpowercper · 15/07/2024 23:22

Good information.

Cut out the crisps and chocolate and let them snack on more filling and protein/fibre rich foods - boiled eggs/cheese & ham frittata/overnight oats with chia seeds & fruit/wholewheat and seeded toast with peanut butter and banana. Raw veg chopped up with hummus is good too. Switch your bread/pasta/rice to wholewheat - it's much more filling and nutritionally dense. Protein smoothies are filling and can be chocolate flavoured if they want something sweet.

This.

Protein powder shakes.
Nuts.
Jacket potatoes microwaved
Hard boiled eggs
Veggies or apple with nut butter

Even popcorn would be better and it's cheap and easy to make.

Crisps and chocolate should be occasional weekend treats.

I also clicked on this thread as I was worried Monster munch were being discontinued or something 😂 and that I better see what was happening.

I totally came on this thread to debate the beef ones being the best!

Nah, pickled onion. No contest.

I was fully on board to champion the pickled onion myself!! 😅

Me too and pickled onion is definitely the best

Forgive me @lilynicole but I’m creased at you saying you do soap for lunch 😂

😂😂😂

Fifteentreefrogs · 16/07/2024 00:19

Start off with porridge or eggs for breakfast.. much more full of protein so more filling than toast or cereal.. and cheaper!!
Failing that perhaps get protein enriched bagels or cereal?
Then for snacks I'd batch make your own on a weekend to last the week. Then when it's gone it's gone?
You could make a tray of chocolate rice crispy cakes or something like that? Super cheap.
Like pp said have a couple of bowls of chopped up carrot and pepper sticks. Apples and bannanas on hand.. cheap fruit to buy and banana really fills you up.
Peanut butter abd hummus.. again really filling.
Basically even supermarket own brand crisps and snacks work out very expensive because they just don't fill up kids at all and are more sensory than anything. They crave the flavour but immediately as you've eaten one you want another and could just munch thru a multipack.
Make sure the house is stocked with food that's a bit less addictive and is less easy to mindlessly munch. And add more protein and fibre to main meals.
You know even having stuff like tins of soup (very cheap) baked beans and microwave rice, to hand as snacks for them, could work out cheaper and better for them than crisps and chocolate. Because it's loads more filling and less of a sugar rush.. so they'll only be inclined to eat them when actually hungry rather than just for the fun sensation

Berlinlover · 16/07/2024 00:24

I eat my main meal when most people eat their lunch. I would spend the whole day starving otherwise. I’m 8 stone 3 lbs so I must be doing something right.

Growlybear83 · 16/07/2024 01:09

All these people talking about pickled onion and beef crisps are heathens. Does no-one eat marmite crisps?

I want a pickled onion bench.

Yep, love them!

HelenaWaiting · 16/07/2024 09:11

I hate to introduce a note of controversy, but I'm not a fan. I prefer Quavers, Hula Hoops (every kind) and indulging my secret Pom Bear habit. Oh, and the statue is in my garden, for ease of prostrating.
