To NOT support England ???

I’m not English. I have lived in England for a very long time. I do not support the England football team, I frequently support their opposition!

Colleague has taken the England loss hard, and said ‘ I bet you’re glad they lost’ - I replied that I was essentially a neutral but thought Spain deserved the win.

Hes gone off in a big old rant about how if I live here I should be supporting England teams etc.
I think he should have a wee lie down and chill out!

YABU - you SHOULD support the team of a country you’ve made a life in - even if you are from a former colony of that country

YANBU - of course you don’t have to support a national team that’s not yours

England fans are renowned for causing trouble everywhere they go. They even did it at Wembley in the last euros.

To be fair the Irish have been fairly good natured really about it all. Some of the Scots however....

Well you can both say what you like but when your own fans are storming your own national stadium I think it’s fair to say their reputation is in tatters. That’s why the whole of Europe was rooting for Spain. That and the fact they were by far the best, most deserving team.

I think Ireland doesn't really feel like it has something to prove on the world stage. Ireland is well liked generally, with a booming economy, a stable government and a good reputation. Not being able to play hurling against Italy for example isn't really something that's thought about.

The GAA is really a fantastic example of sport played for pure passion, there is no monetary gain for players, it's just all about the game.

The behaviour has significantly improved in the last few years. There has been big efforts made to improve it. Most of the trouble at this tournament was from opposite fans attacking English fans whose reputation proceeds them. Funny you are talking of incidents from years ago.

Makes me laugh seeing Scots pretend their fans don't get drunk and piss about.
