To NOT support England ???

Shaketherombooga · 15/07/2024 11:49

I’m not English. I have lived in England for a very long time. I do not support the England football team, I frequently support their opposition!

Colleague has taken the England loss hard, and said ‘ I bet you’re glad they lost’ - I replied that I was essentially a neutral but thought Spain deserved the win.

Hes gone off in a big old rant about how if I live here I should be supporting England teams etc.
I think he should have a wee lie down and chill out!

YABU - you SHOULD support the team of a country you’ve made a life in - even if you are from a former colony of that country

YANBU - of course you don’t have to support a national team that’s not yours

Pickford is far more entertaining than that Spanish goalie

You said it, you clearly know zero about football to make that comment!

Extra bank holiday, you on glue??? I would like an extra day actually, and I would fully support St George’s Day being at holiday…
you clearly missed the bit where he started on me, I said I was a neutral.
and no, I’m not sure they didn’t win. They were shite. And Spain were great.

Spain were the better team but if England were so shite
Why was it only 2/1 to Spain surely if they were great they would have scored more goals?

Assume you're Irish? Not rtft. I always start out supporting England (or should I say, not being against them), because I know all their players. But after a few games their coverage just puts me right off. It's coming home etc. painful stuff.

🤔

These two things aren’t mutually exclusive. ‘Frequently’ isn’t always. Perfectly possible to have been neutral this one while other times not being.

I do not support the English football team means you're neutral does it?

Schrodinger’s fan, both neutral and not neutral, all at the same time

Neutral means having no opinion - not caring whether they win or lose.

Yes. I don’t support the England football team. I also don’t support any other football team. Totally neutral.
Also I’m not the OP. She did say she didn’t support Spain this time, so she, too, was totally neutral.

No, at different times. I’m totally neutral all the time, in that I don’t support any team ever.
However, the OP might support, say, Denmark if England play them, but then last night support neither Spain nor England, therefore being neutral on this occasion. Can you see that different football matches don’t happen ‘all at the same time’?

lolly792 · 15/07/2024 16:29

Cole Palmer also very enjoyable to watch imo

Yes. I don’t care. That’s what ‘not supporting’ means for many people. It doesn’t mean supporting someone else - and even if you do, you could still be neutral in matches not involving your preferred team.

No neutral means not taking sides. It's unlikely the OP would ever support England in a game. That's not neutral just because she didn't support Spain in one instance.

Yep. 👍

Need some more characters in the game. Can anyone get behind this monotonous bunch of babyfaces. One of the reasons people love the Lionesses is the personality shown by the likes of Earps and Toone. Those tiktok videos they make are a hoot.

Differentstarts · 15/07/2024 16:47

Yabu to say you frequently support the other teams. I would absolutely understand if you supported a specific team above england if it's your home team but it sounds like your actively supporting every team except england which seems strange. Since you live here but seem to dislike English people

It’s football. It’s so much more than goals. If you’d prefer to see a team get the ball then sit on in in their own half for as long as possible running down the clock, hoping the other team don’t score then England is the team for you.
I prefer the attacking style, you know, quick skilful passing across an entire team leading to shots on target.
each to their own.

I do agree though. I’m not originally from here and support them because it’s a nice way to feel part of the community that I’ve chosen as my home.

I have a friend who is also not from here and makes a point of not supporting the team, saying she hopes they lose whenever it’s a big match. Tbh hating England is a personality for her. It’s odd tbh, and I don’t understand why she continues to live here if she hates it so much.

The men’s team is young and this was something that my sixth form son and his friends could relate to! But I don’t know anyone that didn’t enjoy the tournament!

Saka is from my neck of the woods so extra points there, he is magic, how anyone can describe him as bland is beyond me!

Yup! Not particularly fussed at the start which team won but it became apparent that one team had more skill, flair and team spirit and deserved to win.
Now though, after this thread? ABE!

Again, what is the former colony country that you are from? Why won’t you say; you have been on this thread all day and it has still not been mentioned.
