To have grudging respect for how Trump styled it out

I mean someone tried to murder him, he came very close to having died. He went through a terrifying experience and came out saying fight and raising his fist in defiance. I think he’s an odious man but despite that, I have to concede a nod to that.

Let’s face it, if this had happened to Obama and he’d responded in the same way we’d all be like ‘woah, he the man!’

Note. This is not a genuine AIBU. I’m confident in my position on this but know so many people have so polarized themselves that they would rather eat their own eyeballs than find any small compliment or recognition for someone they hate.

No he was a twat. Popping his head out the car, raising his fist etc was a stupid move, his security are using their bodies as shields and he’s not giving a though for them by pushing to get himself on display! There could have been more shooters.

He behaved like a bloody moron.

I don’t know why all the MAGAs like OP are so timid.

If you support Trump just say it, no need to temper it with the ‘grudging’ coyness.

Callalllaaammma · 14/07/2024 18:48

I think he was showing the crowd that he was not heart, he was reassuring them that he was not very injured and in that way he was brave.
The secret service were pretty rubbish kind of bungled their job of covering him up until he reached the car.
When you compare it with the shooting of Ronald Tegan they threw him last me a rag doll in to the car.

Well luckily, millions disagree with you

Lucky for who? Racists?

Trump thinking only about himself as usual. I guess you have to admire his single-mindedness and ability to recognise a good photo opp.

The true measure of his courage will be if he goes back to doing these kind of rallies or not.

What do you mean by "these" kind of rallies? Both Dems and Reps do and have done these "kind" of rallies since political campaigning began

Myusernamemustbeatleastthreecharacters · 14/07/2024 18:48

I cannot stand the man.
I don't think anyone deserves to be shot at, especially with a serious attempt on taking his life, regardless of his personal or political dealings.
I thought he handled it extremely well and I admire that (and that alone)
I also think the photography that captured the events are incredible.

Justcallmebebes · 14/07/2024 18:50

Well if he wins in November you can all spend the next 4 years frothing at the mouth

I mean the same kind of outdoor rally where he got shot at. Nothing to do with the content of the rally or what he says during them.

As opposed to drooling over Trump?

AthenaWhite · 14/07/2024 18:51

Can't stand the man but the way he handled himself was incredibly stylish.

That photo is the photo of the year, if not the decade.

But only for 4 more years, because after that, he won't be able to run for President again.

Bakersdozens · 14/07/2024 18:40

no, people don't become a cowering wreck in such circumstance, at all - they become adrenaline fuelled superheroes.

The cowering and wreckage comes later when the adrenaline has worn off

i’ve told you I’ve seen people who who absolutely did become wreckage. I’ve also read accounts from people who became wreckage in life threatening moments. I’ve seen a guy freeze whilst his wife haemorraged after giving birth whilst she called to him to get help. He was rooted to the spot staring at her unable to move. You are just wrong to say everyone becomes an adrenaline filled superhero.

Are you sure? Not like he left gracefully last time.

Totally agree with you OP ! I was thinking the same.

Isn't it fight or flight? You'll run or be the hero. Adrenaline?

anchoviesanchovies · 14/07/2024 18:56

Bakersdozens · 14/07/2024 18:32

He was running on adrenaline, and did everything wrong, showed no self control or training at all. He was sticking his head out without knowing how many snipers there were, or where they were! His guards were desperately trying to reign him in, but he was out of control. No sense, no self control, no response to training

No, I don't admire him. If there had been two shooters, he would have been killed. He is an idiot. Most people know it

Edited

Exactly this. Total arrogance. The longer he delayed moving away and kept raising his head up the more he was putting his security and bystanders in danger.

You are Queen of the eyeball eaters.

Not only are you unable to give any credit in any situation to someone you hate, but you tell yourself it’s impossible for anyone else to do so.

Remarkable level of inadequacy of character.

I assumed that as no-one acted to remove the shooter when he was spotted and that the guy missed killing him and just nicked his ear, it was a total set-up.

That's why he wasn't worried for his safety. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Justcallmebebes · 14/07/2024 18:44

Well let's see you get shot in the head then and see how you react

most people would react instinctively, with adrenaline, the way Trump did, the point is, he should know better, he should have had training, and he should have adhered to it

CocoapuffPuff · 14/07/2024 19:00

He's a very lucky man. Brave? Meh. Defiant? Absolutely. I'm not sure I find any of his character traits admirable, but I hope he's counting his blessings tonight, as well as finding room in that self centred world of his to think of the families of the dead and injured.

AmelieTaylor · 14/07/2024 19:01

He wasn't 'brave' he was stupid & selfish, putting his security team at even more risk.

I do despair of some people
