But he isn't Hitler, he's isolationist and supports US withdrawal from Nato. He wants trade and to build relations with America's traditional "enemies".
I understand he's a massive bellend but how do your equate him with Hitler??

That would be because he put migrants into camps, separating children from their parents and treating them like subhumans. He has always been a white supremacist. His father was a card carrying KKK member and raised Trump on those beliefs. Early in his career, Trump was an enforcer for his dad's real estate empire. One of his jobs was to lay down the law to any building managers who let people of colour rent an apartment. That's just scratching the surface. Try reading up on his early life and career. It is eye opening about who and what he is.

It's not a perfect comparison, but close enough for a lot of people.

TheFirmBiscuit · 14/07/2024 19:11

5 years ago the Brazilian Presidential candidate Bolsanaro an erstwhile ally of Trump was stabbed during the electioneering - he went on to win the election.

Of course. He would have loved that. 🙂

I think the reactions of anti-Trumpists are going to have as much of an impact as the assassination personally, I think a lot of people will feel uncomfortable about aligning themselves with people opening celebrating political violence and extreme attacks on democracy. I'm not sure if this would be enough to make me vote Trump, but after seeing many of these responses I feel a lot less convinced I'd vote Democrat. Fortunately, I am not faced with the choice.

Yes, I'm also thankful that I don't have to choose between them. I would vote Democrat, but it would stick in my craw that there wasn't a reasonable option.

The polarisation comes from social media. 20 or 30 years ago it wasn't so prevalent, so you'd have to express views to someone's face. Which many people wouldn't have dreamt of doing in such extreme terms. SM has totally created echo chambers which are really quite problematic and encourage fanaticism/discourage critical thinking.

That is the stone cold truth.

The fact that your life was fine doesn't matter a jot to anyone else though does it?

But whose life got worse in those years? Interest rates were low, inflation was low, unemployment was low.

Who suffered, and how did they suffer? I'd really like to know, as it didn't affect anyone I know. People act like he unhoused 100 million people and starved 200 million. He did neither. Certainly acted/behaved like an azzhat at times, but then, I feel every President in the last few decades have acted/behaved like one at some point. He just took it up several a few notches.

I was prepared for the worst with him at the helm, but it wasn't horrible. I do not think he will be a benefit to this country though, as he is just "too much" for my liking.

I only read the first page of this thread and was unsurprised to see the Trump Deranged people dismissing the event - literally saying it hasn't happened.

I despair of people and their hatred and all the while claiming some moral high ground.

The Democrats have a lot to answer for in inciting this level of hatred for Trump - constantly referring to him as Hitler etc. He has literally been President before and nothing bad happened! What is it people think he will do? I genuinely think people are deranged about Trump.

Nothing bad happened? 😖 Please get informed.

dapsnotplimsolls · 14/07/2024 19:22

People living in Eastern Europe will be frigging terrified that Trump will get in.

The camps were a left over from the Obama Administration.

Trump was never a white supremecist.

It was claimed, only during the 2016 election, that Trump's father was once arrested during a KKK rally, with clash against the police. However, it has never been determined that he even supported the KKK.

Get your facts straight please

Trump isn't the existential threat to the world people think he is.

2017,2018,2019 my life was perfectly fine thanks.

I don't think he's a good person, but he's not going to bring about another world war.

Well, as long as you were okay, everything's good.

Only thing is though, that's not true is it?

This is what the government said in 2023:

  1. In the UK, the primary domestic terrorist threat comes from Islamist terrorism, which accounts for approximately 67% of attacks since 2018, about three quarters of MI5 caseload and 64% of those in custody for terrorism-connected offences.

[...]

  1. The remainder of the UK domestic terrorist threat is driven almost exclusively by Extreme Right-Wing Terrorism (ERWT), which amounts to approximately 22% of attacks since 2018, about a quarter of MI5 caseload and 28% of those in custody for terrorism-connected offences.

[...]

  1. Left Wing, Anarchist and Single-Issue Terrorism (LASIT) currently represents a significantly smaller terrorist threat to the UK than Islamist terrorism or ERWT and is not currently present in the UK at any significant scale (although there has been some activity that has met a terrorist threshold in recent years and MI5 investigations continue into such cases). The majority of related activity in the UK has consisted of lawful protest, and where these have involved violence, it has resulted in offences relating to public order.

Emmanuelll · 14/07/2024 19:34

Just as there are Republicans who would never vote for Trump, there are groups called, Dems for Trump. That's how it works.
It really ISN'T rocket science.

Really? So in other words there are no political affiliations any more then? Just people who vote for Trump and people who don't?

I'm not American and it doesn't make sense to me that someone would bother to call themselves a democrat if they're more recently a Trump supporter. Maybe you could explain?

Life was perfectly fine and normal. The world wasn't set on fire.

Your world was fine is what you said. Which means absolutely nothing to the many who have suffered in that time. It's a ridiculous and smug view, and you'd better hope that you don't end up suffering like so many others have in the last few years. When live aid was on, did you just turn your head and pop off to the shops?

Emmanuelll · 14/07/2024 19:37

What is it people think he will do?

They think he will withdraw US support for Ukraine. Which would embolden Putin to start firing nuclear weapons.

XChrome · 14/07/2024 19:39

Dearest SpudleyLass;

"The Obama administration responded to the outrage by rushing to expand its capacity to handle the new migration wave at the border, to adapt an infrastructure built to handle single adult men, not families and children."

"The facility was controversial at the time, but it wasn’t until Trump’s zero-tolerance episode in spring 2018 that the facility came to symbolize the kind of administrative cruelty associated with the intentional separation of children from their parents by the government."

Re white supremacy;

https://www.vox.com/policy-and-politics/23484314/trump-fuentes-ye-dinner-white-nationalism-supremacy

Fred Trump was arrested for fighting with cops at a KKK rally. Vice News looked into it and reported that all the arrestees were robed marchers. If that isn't evidence that he was KKK, then I guess there is no such thing as evidence.

Donald Trump’s long history of enabling white supremacy, explained

Trump’s dinner with white supremacist Nick Fuentes was much more than a gaffe.

Who directly suffered as a result of trump from 2017 to 2019?

Before COVID (I checked this) US unemployment was at an all time low.
