Any MPs been murdered since then? Was that by far right too?

Yes, one, by somebody who targeted them claiming retaliation for air strikes on Syria. The airstrikes were voted for by 66 labour mps, so it wasn't a political killing based on ideological differences was it?

Those here who condone the attempted murder/murder of Donald Trump must realise that such views can only lead to civil war.

The day when people decide they have the right to murder anyone they see fit is the day civilisation as we know it ends, let alone democracy.

claireismyname · 14/07/2024 15:06

Presidential assassination or attempted assassination are:
Lincoln - Republican
Garfield - Republican
McKinley - Republican
Kennedy - Democrat
Reagan - Republican
Roosevelt - Republican
Trump - Republican
Tells you something about the risks of being involved in a certain type of political viewpoint.

Trump and his supporters have been agitating for civil war since he lost the election. I honestly don't think a couple of people posting on mumsnet are the ones that are likely to lead to the collapse of Democracy in the USA.

By telling Putin he's welcome to half of Ukraine.

I think it tells you more about which side of the aisle has little respect for democracy.

people need to stop with the hysterical rhetoric. A few days ago a democrat called Trump Hitler. Chants of "get rid of Trump at any cost"
Same has happened with Farage.
They might be right wing politicians but they're not as extreme as the hysteria would
have you believe.

In trump’s case, the people who back him ARE that extreme. The christian right/religious extremist nutters are behind the abortion rights overturn and Project 2025 (which includes a nationwide complete abortion ban), which they are poised to implement if trump wins.

Those plans are very bad for the American people, the environment, climate change mitigation efforts, democracy, freedom of religion, minority and personal rights, and international relations. And with his politicization of the scotus and their plans to overtake the justice system, this time there won’t be any legal recourse against his dictatorial intentions.

His cult, of course, are very in favor of all of it because they think he is god ordained and walks on water, and they are largely anti-abortion, anti lgbtq, anti equal rights, climate change deniers, gun mad, and religious. But the majority of voters are not, and I really hope they turn out in masses this Roevember.

Sadly, I think a lot of them are quite stupid. Some of them have more nefarious intentions.

I'd be very grateful if you could point out where I said that. I would disagree entirely with your characterisation of trump as a 'no nonsense guy....'.

Nah. He’ll be having “family time”. He’ll be on a four day week next.

You begrudge him having a few hours with his family on Friday evenings?

By reducing the earth to a spinning cinder presumably, since Putin has nukes and has indicated more than once he’s prepared to use them. And I’m not sure you can say the volatile situation we have in the Middle East, is peace exactly.

Emmanuelll · 14/07/2024 15:39

Trump is all about the peace. He'd sort out Ukraine/Russia in a day.

I'm so irritated to see that the Qanon people are still in existence.

Was Trump 'all about peace' when he incited the insurrection?

If you really believe that the above statement is true then you're incredibly naive.

RishiIsACuntWaffle · 14/07/2024 15:40

Hatfullofwillow · 14/07/2024 13:26

I'm not so sure, the fastest growing terror threat in the UK is far-right extremism. Jo Cox was murdered by somebody from the radicalised right. We've had a section of the Tory party, and Farage, undermining our courts and our judiciary, not dissimilar to the Maga campaign. We need to be careful in assuming it won't happen here.

Missed 7/7, the London and Westminster Bridge attacks, Manchester Arena, Liverpool Hospital bombing, slaughter of gay people in Birmingham and Slough etc. did we?

Not to mention the attack on David Amess and others.

A man who has bankrupted 6 businesses (including a casino) a multiple felon, rapist, racist and fraudster wouldn't be at the top of my list. I suppose people value different qualities in their dictators these days.

I fundamentally disagree. I think they are both dangerous and we minimise the risks that they pose at our peril.

However, they need to be defeated through democratic argument and not brute force.
