I think the shooter achieved the exact opposite of what he wished to do...

Trump is vile, dangerous and he will be a disaster again for America and the world as president but this has massively increased his chances of winning.

Because him standing back up after being shot, raising his fist and shouting 'fight!' is perfect PR for him. That pic with the flag behind him is what the media dream of and he will be able to spin the narrative of the establishment trying to silence him.

Especially if Biden does not do the right thing by standing aside for a more inspiring candidate to take over for the Democrats then Trump will win.

Scary times.

This ^ If they succeeded or Trump was even badly injured than he was then I think it would have sparked riots and would have damaged the chances of a democrat win.

I don’t think it was staged at all though. I’m more conservative than Labour but even I think a Trump win would be disastrous. We live in scary times at the moment with so much going on around the world. I think Trump is guaranteed a win at this point and really hope that Starmer will increase the funding of our armed forces because if Trump wins we can wave goodbye to any special relationship we had with the US previously.

So will Trump use the killed and injured for more publicity or will he ignore them to keep the focus on himself?

American martyrs USA USA 🇺🇸

That doesn't justify responding in a similar manner here though, particularly when someone has been killed.

On whose behalf are you offended? Yes, it's horrible when someone is killed but who is fighting to continue arming its citizens with little restrictions? The NRA and Trumpers. Who has had led us to a post truth world of conspiracy theories? They're more responsible than posters on here spectulating.

Windymoore · 14/07/2024 09:29

Valeriekat · 14/07/2024 09:24

1 person was killed and 2 were critically injured at a political rally.
Don't trivialise what just happened.

"nicked his ear" + ears attached to the head+ head is where we keep our brains+ inch to the side= BULLET IN BRAIN!!
Edited to say was response to first quote, but I quoted wrong bit!!

I don't know whether I'm more disgusted with the vile comments here or more amazed at the unbelievable stupidity of many of the posters.

I'm pretty disgusted it MN for allowing comments promoting attempted murder ti stand

Mumsnet is a fucking awful place.

Yes, wtaf is going on? How are comments wishing that trump had been assassinated allowed to stand? And posts pushing complete misinformation like it was just "glass" and the whole thing was staged. Doesn't matter where you stand politically , assassinations of candidates, or attempted ones, are always wrong ffs. Shocking stuff really.

I agree Putin couldn't hope for a better outcome.

Evilspiritgin · 14/07/2024 09:30

Bystander and shooter himself are dead

LlynTegid · 14/07/2024 09:30

Another event in the US making me wish they had gun control laws similar to those in the UK and many other countries.

What a load of shite.

Looks like your shite didn't age well mate

Agreed. Shows where we're at though. Too many from all sides of politics don't have actual principles: they have rules for people they agree with, and think anyone they disagree with are scum that can die or shut up

Hsjsjsbs · 13/07/2024 23:47

He's won the election now.

🙁

Linzi2377 · 14/07/2024 09:33

So glad hes fine! Keep marching Donald!

WildLemur · 14/07/2024 09:37

Beyond even just the election, I wonder if this makes it easier to advance Project 2025.

KnickerlessParsons · 14/07/2024 09:38

What a load of shite.

Someone was killed. Two other people badly injured.

FOJN · 14/07/2024 09:39

Despite a shocking number of posts wishing DT had been killed I'm relieved to see so many posters are horrified by the idea of political assassinations.

It doesn't matter what you think of Trump we can't condone the murder of people we politically disagree with.

CaveMum · 14/07/2024 09:41

The FBI have named the shooter as 20 year old Thomas Matthew Crooks of Pennsylvania. Images on Twitter are suggesting he was a registered Republican voter, but this has not been confirmed.

Flopsythebunny · 14/07/2024 09:41

Hsjsjsbs · 14/07/2024 00:34

Is Keir Starmer aware or is he asleep?

Does it matter?

nomoretoriesforme · 14/07/2024 09:42

Lampzade · 14/07/2024 06:41

His name was all over social media hours ago.
It is not a hoax, He is a twenty year old called Thomas Crooks

It has been confirmed that he is a Republican

Edited

CNN mentioned that the shooter has donated money to Democrats in the past.

For the posters on here who have condoned the attempted assassination of Trump do you really believe it’s ok to just kill people you don’t agree with? I thought in a democracy we were better than that🤷🏻‍♀️

birchtreeoflife · 14/07/2024 09:44

It’s obviously horrible that someone died,
but I can’t help thinking that every single one in that audience was probably very pro-gun.

Nah. He’ll be having “family time”. He’ll be on a four day week next.

Why though- what difference does it make, why if you were going to vote for the Democrats would an attempted assassination make you change your mind on who to support.

lazzapazza · 14/07/2024 09:45

There are some proper loopy people on here.

So Trump is willing to risk his life by getting shot at by somebody crazy enough to have their life ended when the US officers fire back?

What has he got to gain? Biden was fucking up his election chances all by himself. Absolutely no need for a fake assassination attempt.
