Guess what he thinks is wrong with me....

So met a guy online. Date 1 - very average but thought I'd give him time to come into himself. Date 2 boy did he come into himself.....

I'll tell you about me. Early 40s, reasonably fit but no gym bunny (size 10 - 5'1). Successful career wise, live in the centre of a popular historic city in a beautiful converted flat. No kids, 2 cats. Average undergraduate degree. Divorced 6 years.

Let's guess what this Prince amongst men (hes not. Really really not) thinks is the problem with me when incredibly drunk on date 2.

Well I'm now in my PJs with a cat on my lap and a glass of wine, in my beautiful flat looking out on the river, contemplating my inadequate 20 year old degree and googling how short I am 😆

It was actually strangely enjoyable in an out of body wtf is going on way!

Is negging really a thing? I don't date much as not that fussed about bring in a relationship as I clearly have terrible taste in men!

You're too old.

I'm also watching Malory Towers as lovely gentle comfort TV - lord knows what he would make of that 😅

And just to add, I don’t even have a degree, OP. It’s only ever come against me in my relationships/dating. I’ve been made to feel so worthless by men for my lack of education. I’d buy yours off you if I could.

Sasqwatch · 12/07/2024 20:48

You can’t feed 8 people for a week on a MN chicken?

Marata · 12/07/2024 20:49

It kinda started with the of so funny cat comments and went downhill from there. In answer to someone else, yes strongly suspect he'd been drinking beforehand as he went from mildly annoying to full on slurry insulting within a couple of drinks.

I wonder if he’d sensed from the first date that you were not that into him, and wanted to get in there and start rejecting before he was rejected. The ‘adults don’t live in flats’ thing sounds a bit like insecurity if you live in the city centre and he doesn’t.

Honestly I’d be tempted not to block until I’d had a chance to remind him sober of all the things he said drunk, but that’s assuming he’s capable of a sense of shame, which he may well not be!

EmeraldRoulette · 12/07/2024 20:49

@SafeMouse negging is definitely a thing.

Im amazed at someone thinking that degree class is important. A friend is making a huge salary in tech and he got a third. Didn’t know about Fiona Shackleton but there’s probably a lot of it about.

I wasn't drag it out because its too ludicrous!
So far.... you're pretty much all right. It's all of the above!!!!

I'm too short, only thick people get a 2.2, it's hilarious that I have cats (the single cat lady stereotype is apparently side splitting funny) best of all - adults don't live in flats.

I'd have also met someone by now (which clearly is the priority) but I've prioritised my career. I think this is also why I don't have children but he was slurring quite a bit by then.

He can fix all these things for me. We'll, not the being short I think he's graciously going to accept that.

Wow!

Firtreeandpinecones · 12/07/2024 20:52

You occasionally date ridiculous men?

( But are sensible enough not to repeat the experience!).

willWillSmithsmith · 12/07/2024 20:52

SafeMouse · 12/07/2024 20:26

Maybe that's it. He lives a few miles from the city, I presume in a house but didn't occur to me to ask! Unless it's something special then my flat would likely be worth more just due to location. It's symbolic of my entire inadequate lifestyle 😆

There’s some flats (appartments) not that far from me that go for £3million. I’ll assume adults live in them.

At least you found some entertainment in his idiocy.

mrsmiawallace3 · 12/07/2024 20:52

At this stage, I'm thinking of writing a book entitled : " Men who hated their mother, and the women they take it out on".

If you had terrible taste in men you'd be going on a third date with this cockwomble! Based on the other life choices you've shared, I'd say you have excellent taste. 💛

ThatAgileGoldMoose · 12/07/2024 20:56

Does negging ever, EVER work though? I get that "DaTiNg CoAcHeS" teach men to do this but has it ever in the history of mankind, worked?

(Autocorrect made negging into nagging, possibly both questions are just as relevant as each other 😂)

FreeRider · 12/07/2024 20:57

I'm 55, and after reading your post I sat down and figured out how many years since leaving home at 21 that I've lived in flats/houses....

house: 3 years

flats/apartments/units (I've lived all over the world): 31 years.

Oh and I live on my own with 2 cats...and I've had a partner for 15 years! Unless I absolutely had to, I'd never live full-time with a man again! My lovely flat is far cheaper to heat/maintain, too!

I think he's one of those guys who puts women down to lower their confidence as an 'in' and keep them there. Only works on the vulnerable.

I'm sitting in my flat in my 40's with my adult son and have just caught up on Malory towers from this week.

Also far too independent (apparently) with not a good enough degree - but I'm failing because I don't have cats. 😂

I think it's fab you sat and stayed just to find out how much of a cock he is - that's taking one for the team!

itsgettingweird · 12/07/2024 21:02

It's on series 5. It strayed very far from the books by series 3 but it's a guilty pleasure for anyone our generation!

SapphireSeptember · 12/07/2024 21:03

What's wrong with flats? Perfectly the norm all over the world, especially in towns and cities. I'm about to move into one myself (going from a studio to a two bedroom flat.) I like living on one level, much easier! (Now granted I'm renting and I never went to university or had much of a career, but if I could ever afford to buy my own place a flat would be fine by me!)

He's been told at some point in his pathetic life that women like "bad boys" and thinks that is what he is.. he seems to have misunderstood that "bad boys" have bucket loads of charm and good looks!

I enjoyed watching them too. I think my daughter thought I was weird.
