HE GAVE ME THRUSH

Blankspacebabyy · 11/07/2024 16:49

Been seeing a guy for a while and we slept together for the first time on Tuesday night.
Today, I have thrush. I'm not prone to it and have only had it once or twice in my life. I'm incredibly cautious of my downstairs and I only wash with water and wear cotton knickers and nothing tight so I can't see it being caused by anything else.
I'm meant to be seeing him tomorrow and guaranteed he's going to try it on with me. What am I meant to say? sorry we can't have sex you gave me thrush?
Should I tell him? Should I lie and make up a reason? Should I end it based on this?
I know this is so funny but please help, why are men like this lol

I doubt very much he gave you thrush. Men rarely have penile thrush, it’s a fungal infection and doesn’t like dry bare skin like a penis, it likes moist warm nooks and crannies like a vagina.

Treat yourself and avoid sex until you feel more comfortable.

LostTheMarble · 11/07/2024 16:55

How do you think he gave you thrush? It could have happened for many reasons, the condoms used, irritation from not having sex for a while, just a bad coincidence… I’m not sure why you think it’s ‘him’ specifically.

Hungrycaterpillarsmummy · 11/07/2024 16:56

Thrush can just happen it's not necessarily true that he gave it to you.
The act of having sex gave you thrush

SummerScarf · 11/07/2024 16:56

Come on, it’s not likely to be fatal. He might well not even have “given” you it himself, in that he had thrush and passed it on: it’s often just the act of sex that brings it on whoever the partner is.

Get to a chemist, get that flucanozole tablet that magically cures it in a couple of days plus some cream for soothing if it’s particularly itchy or uncomfortable, and don’t let it affect your view of him. It’s really not his fault!

LostTheMarble · 11/07/2024 16:57

Oh, and I hadn’t had thrush in years. I recently changed my mini pill brand and developed it. Literally can come from anywhere at anytime.

MiddleagedBeachbum · 11/07/2024 16:58

Having sex is most likely what gave you thrush, not him!

Elasticatedtrousers · 11/07/2024 16:58

Unlikely he gave you thrush. Sex will give you thrush though!

VainAbigail · 11/07/2024 17:01

HE GAVE ME THRUSH

Why shout?!

MonsteraMama · 11/07/2024 17:02

Oh come on, men can be hopeless in many ways but saying "why are men like this" over thrush is a bit unfair, it's not like he's knowingly given you the clap or something. He probably didn't "give" it to you at all, just having sex can bring it on.

Just tell him the truth. You can do other things that aren't PIV, or just tell him you're not up for anything. If he's a keeper he'll be fine with it.

OooohAhhhh · 11/07/2024 17:04

I am also careful down there and I had it continuously for 3 years after giving birth, so much so that I had a long term prescription to use the pessary every week to prevent it. I was getting it at least twice a week for at least 3 years, it would go away then 2 days later it would come back. It went in the end but that was a really miserable mystery for me. Partner didn't have it, I never slept with him because of the thrush so I couldn't have kept on catching it from him.
This shows tho that we can just get it. You probably got it because of having sex. Hadn't you had sex in a while?
I highly doubt he'd of had it/gave you it, he would have known he'd had it, it's more obvious for guys than it is for women.

Laura36TTC · 11/07/2024 17:08

Have you been on any antibiotics? Thrush can be a side effect of those.

StarsBeneathMyFeet · 11/07/2024 17:08

I thought I was getting thrush from sex because it kept occurring. Eventually I realised I was actually having an allergic reaction to lube! Stopped using it, problem solved.
Agree with pp, it’s rare to catch thrush. If you’re in an adult relationship, just talk to him about it though.

ChedderGorgeous · 11/07/2024 17:17

You should definitely warn him you have thrush to protect him.

fishonabicycle · 11/07/2024 17:20

I got it relentlessly when I was on a specific contraceptive pill. Bloody awful - you don't necessarily catch thrush from someone - it can just happen!

Comedycook · 11/07/2024 17:21

I know this is so funny but please help, why are men like this lol

Why are men like what?

And no it's not funny

DracoDormiensNumquamTittilandum · 11/07/2024 17:21

You probably just got thrush as a result of having sex. Stop overreacting. But of course you can tell him you aren't up for sex for any reason - you can choose to tell him you have thrush or not up to you.

SinkingFeelingSoph · 11/07/2024 17:23

Hmm, I kept getting it with my partner… we weren’t seeing each other much and it was literally every time we had sex. The pharmacists I saw said it could easily be passed back and forth between partners and we should both be treated. When he had the fluconazole pill I didn’t get it again. He was also prone to thrush in the mouth… not sure it’s related. But pretty sure you can get it from a partner, but yes, it may just have been the friction or whatever itself.

Agapornis · 11/07/2024 17:27

Did you go for a wee after? Was there sufficient lubrication? It isn't classed as an STI, and the vast majority of cases aren't caused by penile thrush.

KreedKafer · 11/07/2024 17:29

Calm down. It’s thrush, not syphilis

McConkeysPlate · 11/07/2024 17:30

You need to tell him, you are both likely to need treatment

Outliers · 11/07/2024 17:42

Did you have sex without a condom?

It's possible he applies some sort of moisturiser directly onto his penis, which throws your pH off balance.

great user name ! lol

EveryOtherNameTaken · 11/07/2024 17:50

Very unlikely he gave it to you. It was probably the friction that caused it. It happens to me if I haven't had sex regularly.

Most mild thrush goes away after a day or two. If not, over the counter medication will sort it.

Use lubrication next time!

Hateam · 11/07/2024 17:52

Why are women like this?
Calm down.

Fannyfiggs · 11/07/2024 17:56

Maybe you've given him thrush 😱
