HE GAVE ME THRUSH

Blankspacebabyy · 11/07/2024 16:49

Been seeing a guy for a while and we slept together for the first time on Tuesday night.
Today, I have thrush. I'm not prone to it and have only had it once or twice in my life. I'm incredibly cautious of my downstairs and I only wash with water and wear cotton knickers and nothing tight so I can't see it being caused by anything else.
I'm meant to be seeing him tomorrow and guaranteed he's going to try it on with me. What am I meant to say? sorry we can't have sex you gave me thrush?
Should I tell him? Should I lie and make up a reason? Should I end it based on this?
I know this is so funny but please help, why are men like this lol

Oh thanks guys I didn't know this. We had sex like 3 times in one night so maybe it's just from irritation? I've told him I'm on my period as don't wanna gross him out so early on

I doubt very much he gave you thrush. Men rarely have penile thrush, it’s a fungal infection and doesn’t like dry bare skin like a penis, it likes moist warm nooks and crannies like a vagina.

Treat yourself and avoid sex until you feel more comfortable.

Hilariously phrased - petition to make "nook and cranny" the new cockney rhyming slang for vagina 😂

Yeh sounds like it was the sex and not him

CollyBobble · 11/07/2024 18:15

Thrush used to be called the honeymoon cystitis because it occurred when virgins on their wedding night and honeymoon were subjected to frequent sexual inter side resulting in thrush. Friction, heat, etc.

It's not something dirty.

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 11/07/2024 18:16

Thrush is one of those annoying "urgh men don't have to deal with this" things

I got it after using antibiotics

You can't blame him

It's not a "Why are men like this" occasion

No it didn't. Honeymoon Cystitis refers to a UTI.

I'm incredibly cautious of my downstairs not that cautious if you didn't use condoms!

Where does it say they didn't use condoms?

Getonwitit · 11/07/2024 18:26

I doubt he gave you thrush. But if you are that worried about infections being passed on why didn't you use condoms?

I would think that the poster is assuming that it the thrush could not be passed on if a condom was used?

ChocolatePodge · 11/07/2024 18:30

Despite all the comments here I had a similar experience years ago, I tried flucanozole only for it to reappear after our next encounter. We both had to take a pill at the same time to finally knock it on the head

fliptopbin · 11/07/2024 18:31

Does he take steroid inhalers for asthma? These can cause oral thrush, and I guess he could have passed it on to you through oral sex.

OurChristmasMiracle · 11/07/2024 18:32

It’s highly unlikely he gave you thrush. Potentially the condom (if you used one) or if he had just washed his shower gel could have.

(I used to get thrush from a specific brand of condom so stopped using that brand)

ChocolatePodge · 11/07/2024 18:33

Oral route is likely too, more info on men with thrush 🤣www.nidirect.gov.uk/conditions/thrush-men

Yes this is true actually!

Ah yes, of course. I was being a bit silly there 😂

Chypre · 11/07/2024 18:36

If you’ve used condoms and those had scent/flavor/heat/tingle any sort of “extra” quality to them, that probably is the culprit.

Pudmyboy · 11/07/2024 18:41

Thrush isn't an STI, it's known as a commensal (ie it's on your body without helping or hurting you) and as others have said, the friction from sex possibly triggered it. Let it calm down then use lube.
Repeat: thrush is not an STI

Thrush isn't an STI but you've developed it and if you weren't using condoms he may also have too so it's best to be honest with him in case he thinks it's something else.

It is more common for women and many of us can develop it from certain brands of condoms, due to lack or type of lubricant, so if you used condoms you might need to change the brand too. Plus he's unlikely to have it.

Nook and cranny = fanny 😁

Choochoo21 · 11/07/2024 18:49

I assumed you used a condom, so it’s likely to be from the lube.

You only are unlikely to catch anything by wearing a condom.

If you didn’t wear a condom then I don’t understand why you wrote “why are men like this”.

You can get cystitis or thrush from sex.
But it’s not caught from the man.

DeliciousApples · 11/07/2024 18:59

Did you use a condom?
If not it might not be just thrush...
