HE GAVE ME THRUSH

Blankspacebabyy · 11/07/2024 16:49

Been seeing a guy for a while and we slept together for the first time on Tuesday night.
Today, I have thrush. I'm not prone to it and have only had it once or twice in my life. I'm incredibly cautious of my downstairs and I only wash with water and wear cotton knickers and nothing tight so I can't see it being caused by anything else.
I'm meant to be seeing him tomorrow and guaranteed he's going to try it on with me. What am I meant to say? sorry we can't have sex you gave me thrush?
Should I tell him? Should I lie and make up a reason? Should I end it based on this?
I know this is so funny but please help, why are men like this lol

Are you sure it’s thrush? What symptoms have you got?

Fannyfiggs · 11/07/2024 18:21

Where does it say they didn't use condoms?

well if he 'gave her' thrush I am guessing she thinks he HAD thrush and GAVE it to her via the method of sex - unlikely to have been this if he wrapped it up. So unless the OP means he gave her a lovely gift box tied with a bow containing thrush I'm guessing it was via unprotected sex.

Otherwise it would be 'having sex left me with a nasty bout of thrush' surely?

Did you have sex without a condom?

It's possible he applies some sort of moisturiser directly onto his penis, which throws your pH off balance.

I tend to get it using one. I think I might be sensitive to the latex 🤷🏻‍♀️

Of course, I was being a bit dense and didn't think of that 😂

But equal parts laughing and disgusted at a beautifully wrapped box containing thrush 😆😱

Can you imagine - Christmas morning - all the excitement - and that's what you get!

'oh darling, thrush. Exactly what I wanted' 😂

ghostyslovesheets · 11/07/2024 19:14

Did you get the matching chlamydia?

Clueless2024 · 11/07/2024 19:18

You are so hilariously misinformed. I'm kinda embarrassed for you... but thanks for giving me a giggle.

Morello339 · 11/07/2024 19:20

This happened to me too. I started seeing someone. Every Saturday we would have sex, and every Tuesday I developed thrush...took the meds, was clear and then the next time we had sex it would happen again. I told him and he took the meds...never got it again.

Men can pass on thrush

chipsaway · 11/07/2024 19:37

Sidge · 11/07/2024 16:54

I doubt very much he gave you thrush. Men rarely have penile thrush, it’s a fungal infection and doesn’t like dry bare skin like a penis, it likes moist warm nooks and crannies like a vagina.

Treat yourself and avoid sex until you feel more comfortable.

If been with a partner whom had thrush men can certainly get it

Maray1967 · 11/07/2024 19:39

ChedderGorgeous · 11/07/2024 17:17

You should definitely warn him you have thrush to protect him.

This - I passed it to my DH; not true that men don’t get it. It flared up on him, GP said it was thrush and that I must have it. By the time he got home I realised I’d got it.

fliptopbin · 11/07/2024 18:31

Does he take steroid inhalers for asthma? These can cause oral thrush, and I guess he could have passed it on to you through oral sex.

Ooh thank you. Now my issue makes total sense!

That’s why I said “rarely” and not “never”.

Penile thrush is not common.

Sorry, not accurate.

The Mayo Clinic says it is common. I am going to go with them.

Eggsley · 11/07/2024 20:08

DH and I both thought we had it, never had it before. It turned out to be a reaction to aloe Vera toilet paper Blush

ButWhatAboutTheBees · 11/07/2024 18:16

Thrush is one of those annoying "urgh men don't have to deal with this" things

I got it after using antibiotics

You can't blame him

It's not a "Why are men like this" occasion

I treat men for thrush on an almost daily basis!

It’s just one of those annoying things.

CoffeeBeansGalore · 11/07/2024 20:19

Thrush and athlete's foot are caused by the same bacteria. If he has athlete's foot, touched his feet & didn't wash his hands before touching you intimately, then you can develop thrush.

Calliopespa · 11/07/2024 20:38

MiddleagedBeachbum · 11/07/2024 16:58

Having sex is most likely what gave you thrush, not him!

Yes.

QuantumPanic · 11/07/2024 20:39

OooohAhhhh · 11/07/2024 17:04

I am also careful down there and I had it continuously for 3 years after giving birth, so much so that I had a long term prescription to use the pessary every week to prevent it. I was getting it at least twice a week for at least 3 years, it would go away then 2 days later it would come back. It went in the end but that was a really miserable mystery for me. Partner didn't have it, I never slept with him because of the thrush so I couldn't have kept on catching it from him.
This shows tho that we can just get it. You probably got it because of having sex. Hadn't you had sex in a while?
I highly doubt he'd of had it/gave you it, he would have known he'd had it, it's more obvious for guys than it is for women.

Did you have an iud at the time, by any chance?

chipsaway · 11/07/2024 20:39

More common than you think!

Bertsmum22 · 11/07/2024 20:46

Did you use a condom? If so, then it’s unlikely he gave you thrush.. it will be from having sex.
If you didn’t use a condom it could be anything and serves you right!

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 11/07/2024 20:48

Be careful, on the second time he may give you two turtle doves.😱

CollyBobble · 11/07/2024 20:51

@WhatInFreshHell

You are incorrect.
