To feel like this about the fucking weather?

I feel like we’ve had about six days of sun since last October. I am so fucking fed up of it. The nights are already drawing in again!! No money to go abroad so that’s out of the question. I just want to have the doors open, flip flops on, to dry clothes outdoors. I honestly feel it’s making me depressed with constant grey skies.

I’m 100% an autumn girl and even I’m finding this summer tough. Feels like we haven’t had more than a day of nice weather at a time, and hardly any of those!

RisingSunn · 10/07/2024 23:16

Yep. Used ours once a week or so ago…never had need for it since.

I bought a blow up paddling pool for my little niece last month.

She braved it for one afternoon and the next morning gale force winds blew it onto my neighbour’s rose bush where it popped, deflated and hung there all limp and pathetic.

It sort of summed up this summer perfectly. 😫

Aw I snorted. Sorry.

I have started to pack up my garden now as we have used it about 5 times since I got everything out of storage.

Twototwo15 · 10/07/2024 23:40

I am enjoying the weather. It’s usually stiflingly hot for weeks on end and dry as a bone here, so it’s nice to have pleasantly warm weather and not have to water the garden every day for a change.

FFSWherearemyglasses · 10/07/2024 23:41

This is exactly why we sold up, packed up and fucked off 😎☀️
The same BS is so much easier when the sun shines …. And every day is a washing day

However, FWIW… currently back in UK visiting my Mum; totally and utterly fucked off with the rain 😩

defefg · 10/07/2024 23:45

Last summer was awful here, it rained most days and it was awful being stuck in with the DC - puddle walks are only fun so many times. But at least June was lovely. This year they have barely worn their school summer uniforms, and I can count on one hand the days when I’ve been able to go out wthout a raincoat.

It’s not looking hopeful for the summer holidays either and we aren’t going anywhere. I normally wash my duvet and pillows on a hot day in the summer and it doesn’t even look like I’ll be able to do that any time soon.

I love having the windows open most of the year but it’s been so cool and windy that I’ve had to shut them to feel comfortable. It’s very depressing. A PP made a good point about vitamin d; we all take supplements daily but maybe the NHS should be recommending that people take a supplement year round at the moment (and not just on its website).

My garden looks like a swamp and I'm sick of carrying an umbrella
The cat keeps looking out the window and then at me like I can control it Confused
Contemplating the duvet back on the bed

When it's raining my cat comes in through the cat flap at the back of the house then runs straight to the front door demanding to be let out....she thinks it isn't raining at the front😆

garlictwist · 10/07/2024 23:52

I went to Spain last week because I saw the forecast and couldn't handle it. Just booked a flight and went the same day (luckily work let me do that).

This week it's worse!! Tomorrow is going to be 14 degrees. I've just had enough. I had the misfortune of standing in my garden this evening chatting to a neighbour so wasn't wearing a coat and when I got in I had to have a bath to warm up.

BeardofHagrid · 10/07/2024 23:54

Totally agree. The sun did come out today but then there were icy gales. It just doesn’t feel like summer at all. I’m not sure my vegetable plants are even going to survive this. They are getting battered and were already very delayed. Haven’t been able to do much washing for weeks and weeks. I’m so disappointed.

MStarG · 10/07/2024 23:54

We used to live somewhere warmer and I so desperately want to move back and we may now have the opportunity to (couldn't remain there before due to visas) but problem now is we have a toddler who loves his grandparents and who dotes on them (only grandchild with no prospect of more) and I can't decide if the weather is more important or the relationships (sounds silly written down but I know the lifestyle warmth can bring!) I am hating this summer but honestly don't feel it's any worse than the last nearly 10 years we've been back here. I was not made for this climate but is it enough to remove my child from everyone they love?!?!

Wintersgirl · 10/07/2024 23:59

You can GUARANTEE the weather will be gorgeous just as the kids go back to school

Agree. I wish there was someone we could complain to. I find this weather unacceptable.

Last July we were sweltering.

2022 the roads were actually melting.

Tonight we were out on a walk in coats and scarves.

SmileyClare · 11/07/2024 00:15

It feels good to moan!

Ive started saying things like
“at least the wind s dropped” or “it’s not too bad, just drizzle today” in an attempt to put a brave face on but I’m SO sad about it! What a wash out.

oakleaffy · 11/07/2024 00:20

Friend sent me a pic from June 2022 - so terribly hot that her dog sought shade beneath some conifers and almost disappeared.

This year they are snuggled under blankets.

To feel like this about the fucking weather?
PickAChew · 11/07/2024 00:20

WrittenInTheSand · 11/07/2024 00:37

I don't like rain but I'm glad of the cool weather. Peri menopausal and cant deal with hot weather. 🥵

IBegYourBiggestPardon · 11/07/2024 01:07

It's dismal. I drove to work this afternoon and it was like a winters day outside. Dull, grey and full of clouds. Coming home just the same only fog added into it. As soon as the temperature starts to drop my little toes throb like mad. I've definitely noticed them getting stiffer and more painful over the past week. Last night I ended up digging my hot water bottle out and putting it inside my bed. If the weather carries on like this I'll be switching back to my winter duvet and putting a sheet underneath if it does get too hot on a night time.

Yes! I want to write that I am “disappointed “.

DiscoBeat · 10/07/2024 22:08

Me too! I prefer to be cold than hot. We're going to Greece in a couple of weeks and it could be too hot, then I'll be missing the cool rain! Also I'm glad not to have yo be constantly hosing the garden like we did a couple of years ago.

I really don't understand the attitude towards heat in the UK. Where I live we have to hose the garden every summer (lawns are mostly left to die off - no mowing, hooray!). It's hardly a huge chore.

It's winter here and we are having better weather than you are - my doors are wide open and the washing is on the line - and most days are like that at present. I would go stark raving mad if I lived in the UK - and the day I yearn for cool rain is the day I know I've lost my mind.

Er massive fires, extreme floods in Australia? Climate crisis will affect the whole world to a greater or lesser degree

So the whole of Australia is affected by massive fires and extreme floods is it? Honestly, the ignorance of some MNers astonishes me.

NextFriYAY · 11/07/2024 05:39

Socks.
Fucking socks and a cardigan when I get into bed.
Clothes designed for autumn and winter being worn for summer instead.
Grey, damp, drizzly and dank - the smug ‘grey skies suit my mood’ brigade make me murderous. More so than the slugs that are eating my begonias.
This is not the fucking summer I am looking for.

loststoryteller · 10/07/2024 22:23

I have close family in Australia. What do you think climate change will look like there?

I also have close family there and currently it looks like wall to wall sunshine

If you'd like to go down a rabbit hole/wonder at people, have a look at the topic of geo engineering. I made the mistake of mentioning the weather to a colleague last week and he told me that this is why the weather is how it is....deliberate sabotage etc etc. <head in hands emoji>

Rather than ridiculing, perhaps you could do some reading/research yourself-
the phenomenon of cloud seeding for example, is well documented.
