To feel like this about the fucking weather?

I feel like we’ve had about six days of sun since last October. I am so fucking fed up of it. The nights are already drawing in again!! No money to go abroad so that’s out of the question. I just want to have the doors open, flip flops on, to dry clothes outdoors. I honestly feel it’s making me depressed with constant grey skies.

A couple of months ago I was in the ‘just put on waterproofs and go out and have a good time’ camp on these types of MN posts. Total change of heart now, I’m so bloody fed up and depressed by it and just desperate for sun. I don’t even care about it being that hot, just sick of greyness.

But that only lasted a couple of weeks!

The amount of rain this year, all year, has been crazy. Probably be told on weather app that we've actually had less than normal or something, though

Exactly!

MessageOnAWall · 10/07/2024 23:02

For those who seem clued up on weather patterns, what happened two years ago then? Lovely summer, heatwave (where I came to life as everyone else shrivelled up), then a winter where it was particularly cold (early '23 was well below zero every night for ages).

I'm genuinely concerned about the health of the nation as so many people will now be very vitamin D deficient after two summers of this. Wonder if that's contributing to the general gloom in the air? (Was pondering this as I'm still taking my D winter supplements most weeks due to the weather.)

I'm quite happy in heat, but don't need extremes. Just warmish sunny days, with a few fabulous summer storms to keep the plants happy! Even warm grey-but-not actually-raining days would do.

This isn't climate change. Yet.

It's El Nino and it's a fucking pita. Loads of things cancelled, slugs eating all my fucking plants. And to top it off really bad hay fever.

More fool me for voting Starmer for change.

It's climate change with a bit of an El Nino hangover, we're back in El Nina.

What seems to be a feature of weather over recent years is that while the extremes are getting more extreme, single weather systems and patterns are lasting weeks rather than days.

CatchHimDerry · 10/07/2024 23:03

Bag of shit “summer” so far, maybe even worse than last year? I can’t remember, it’s all a blur of grey and rain and misery 😂

Taken me two years to paint outside of house. Still a few patches to do

Still don’t possess washing line from moving in 3 years ago as I’m not exactly motivated

dannyufcfan · 10/07/2024 23:05

I'm in liverpool and every single day my watch sends me a notification saying 'chance of rain tomorrow'. I was running the other day and got battered by rain and wind.

Just give me low 20's and no rain until September.

AngeloMysterioso · 10/07/2024 23:05

We have a damp problem and I’m back to running our dehumidifier every night because I have no tumble dryer so we have to dry all our clothes on airers because we can’t dry them outside. Also means we can only do one load per day, and there’s 5 of us so the place is permanently like a feckin Chinese laundry. When it’s properly warm and sunny I can get three loads washed and dried outside in one day.

And once again the slugs are invading… I had to dispatch two of the slimy fuckers from my sitting room last night 😡.

Daftasabroom · 10/07/2024 23:07

HungryLittleCrocodile · 10/07/2024 22:48

Oh and you know that do you? That's it's going to be a very wet and windy Autumn? Have you got a crystal ball?!

AND if it's 'climate change' causing the low temperatures for July, and the grim skies and the rain and winds etc, and giving the UK a shitty summer, then how come every other country is having a glorious summer?! Hmm

Is it just the UK that has climate change? 🙄

Yep. I'm afraid so.

Warmer oceans means more water evaporating, which means more water and energy in the atmosphere.

Ghost2 · 10/07/2024 23:09

We're in a La Niña phase now, so increased rainfall and colder winters are to be expected.
Unfortunately if you can't afford to few holidays a year or to move abroad, you just have to get on with it

buttnut · 10/07/2024 23:10

Ideally it would be sunny, 20/21 degrees, no rain and a slight breeze.

But if I can’t have that then I’ll take rain over the 40 degree days we had the other year that was grim.

ColinMyWifeBridgerton · 10/07/2024 23:11

More fool me for voting Starmer for change.

Didn't realise that Starmer had promised to change the weather - give the poor fella a break, he's only been in 5 days.

Mooda · 10/07/2024 23:11

Climate breakdown means it is becoming milder, wetter and windier in the UK. Not all the time but more of the time. We just have to get used to it given it's literally happening around us. In other parts of the world climate breakdown is resulting in drought, floods, extreme storms etc. Surely everybody knows this? Be careful where you wish for when you think about emigrating, could actually be a lot worse.

Amybelle88 · 10/07/2024 23:12

It's utterly miserable! My husband suffers from SAD and hasn't had much of a break!

We go to Florida in January to break the winters up and this year we went during a bad weather spell - ended up on tornado watch 😂😂 I just need some sun!

AlbertaWildRose · 10/07/2024 23:13

VolvoFan · 10/07/2024 21:21

I agree. Probably the worst 'summer' in a long time. 'Climate change' my arse. Has anyone noticed it's also frequently windy? I don't ever recall having this many windy days before 2019. I bloody hate it.

Climate change does not mean exclusively hotter weather - it also means unpredictable and unusual weather.

GordonBlue · 10/07/2024 23:15

HungryLittleCrocodile · 10/07/2024 23:11

😆

Then he should have been more specific!

pictoosh · 10/07/2024 23:16

Seriously though...I'm an all-year-round outdoors person. I've got kit for everything, I can get out in pretty much any weather and do.
But you know...nothing, NOTHING beats being out in nature on a good weather day. Nothing beats a summit with a clear view. Nothing delights like the dappled sun on a forest ride. Nothing is as welcome as good weather on a humble camping trip. Seeing the sun rise, watching it set.
I long for that.

In other news, which may be even more controversial than climate change...do you think all the people who painted everything they could grey, are still enjoying their colour scheme?

There's a reason it works in the south of France and not here.

rewilded · 10/07/2024 23:16

It's the dense white, grey cloud; it feels ominous. I don't remember ever seeing cloud cover this dense for so long and I am in my 50s.

RisingSunn · 10/07/2024 23:16

littleapplecottage · 10/07/2024 22:39

Actually think it might be my fault. I bought my little DD a massive paddling pool, and used the tyre pump to blow it up....not sure we'll be using it at this point

Yep. Used ours once a week or so ago…never had need for it since.

Ineverlose · 10/07/2024 23:17

I agree! The weather is awfully depressing

A1ia · 10/07/2024 23:18

To be totally honest, I don't mind the temperature - it is pleasant and I don't enjoy it being too hot. I just wish it were dry. A cool but dry summer would be fine as you could be outside lots and still enjoy the time.

TheUsualChaos · 10/07/2024 23:19

What's upsetting me about this weather is that increasingly, the school holidays are shit and I'm sad for my DC that they won't have memories of long, warm summers and playing outside every evening like I have of my childhood. Feel like we've barely used the garden yet this year considering we are well into July 😢 the majority of the nice days, I've been stuck in work on long shifts. It's shit.

Maddy70 · 10/07/2024 23:20

This is one of the reasons i left the country. It made me so miserable

Flatulence · 10/07/2024 23:25

I'm someone who is perpetually too warm and whose dream summer temp is about 22 degrees... and yet I HATE this shit weather.

My garden looks terrible as well as every time I've attempted to get out there to weed and cut the hedge it's pissed it down. The fence I started painting in April is still only half painted for the same reason.

Just some dry days would do me right now. What a total washout.

Mozzarellaballs · 10/07/2024 23:33

Yep so dark and grey today felt so meh. Personally I just want to flick people in the face who bleat on about Autumn and Winter, that's fine but it's Summer so we should be having nice weather!
