To feel like this about the fucking weather?

I feel like we’ve had about six days of sun since last October. I am so fucking fed up of it. The nights are already drawing in again!! No money to go abroad so that’s out of the question. I just want to have the doors open, flip flops on, to dry clothes outdoors. I honestly feel it’s making me depressed with constant grey skies.

@VolvoFan yes also very very windy all the time!

this is the first time I’ve genuinely understood why people move for better weather. It’s so depressing

The wind. Grrr. So depressing.

I live in a rural area, the farmers are starting to worry about the crops. :(

Mymanyellow · 10/07/2024 22:09

There’s such a thing as middle ground. Doesn’t have to be 40 degrees! Just a nice mid 20 light breeze. Just so I can dry my washing. I think I’m getting webbed feet.

tillyandmilly · 10/07/2024 22:10

i dont think it has been that bad down south! Its rained a smidge then the sun comes out - its been hovering 18-20 degrees which is not cold - been warm in our top floor - windows have been open constantly

DreamTheMoors · 10/07/2024 22:10

devildeepbluesea · 10/07/2024 21:30

Not me. Give me the sun any time.

It’s sunny and 106F where I live. It’s supposed to get up to 110 later today.
Tomorrow it’s supposed to be 115.
But it’s a “dry heat” lol.

Judellie · 10/07/2024 22:10

Would be nice if it stopped raining for more than the odd couple of hours tbh. Was in Switzerland the end of May and that was just as bad - cold, wet, miserable except for 2 separate half days, one where it briefly stopped raining and the other where the sun did actually come out for a bit.

MustBeGinOclock · 10/07/2024 22:08

Agree. I can't remember it being so miserable a summer. It really is quite depressing 😕

Yep, especially after last summer which was also unusually shit.

TenarAtuan · 10/07/2024 22:10

If you'd like to go down a rabbit hole/wonder at people, have a look at the topic of geo engineering. I made the mistake of mentioning the weather to a colleague last week and he told me that this is why the weather is how it is....deliberate sabotage etc etc. <head in hands emoji>

We're in a "la Nina" pattern I think, so cold over the Pacific and equator and the air currents have done an about turn, I'm a bit hazy on the details these days, been a while since A levels! But it effects the jet stream. And might mean more big hurricanes in the Americas. Unfortunately el nino / la Nina patterns last 3-7yrs... Not to say we won't get 'weather' changes mixed in to the general bigger picture. Or that there's not the background of climate change with rising temperatures.

I’m in Scandinavia and we’ve never had so many climate tourists ever. From Greece and Spain etc. They love the rain

Xtraincome · 10/07/2024 22:11

Agree. The weather's crap at the minute and I am a moody weather girl first and foremost - foggy, chilly, bit of rain, dark days, long nights ❤ BUT I like seasons, we had a mini Spring then a 2 day summer and now into the dullest Autumnal weather.

I want some proper picnic weather and to not pack a cardigan everywhere I go! Contemplated a fleece yesterday morning! 😣

Agree I'd rather this than 40°c though. I hate not being able to stay cool

KatLiz · 10/07/2024 22:11

I love this weather. I struggle badly in the heat and find hot summers awful.

The weather hasn't been that bad here (Midlands) though. My washing has dried quickly and easily, and 80% of the rain we've had has been overnight. It was cloudy but just over 20 degrees today, and that's my perfect weather!

TeenLifeMum · 10/07/2024 22:11

My fb memories are showing dc in paddling pools and weekends paddle boarding. We’d better have an Indian summer or it’ll be a looong year! We booked a week in Gran Canaria for reliable good weather that isn’t crazy hot. We go in a couple of weeks and I can’t wait but already sad about having to come home 😭

Cheersmedears123 · 10/07/2024 22:12

I’ve been so happy to see the sunshine today and it’s forecast to be lovely through to the weekend as well. But I wish we could actually get a longer period of dry weather. It would be nice to be able to plan weekends outdoors without having to prepare for it to piss down.

VolvoFan · 10/07/2024 21:21

I agree. Probably the worst 'summer' in a long time. 'Climate change' my arse. Has anyone noticed it's also frequently windy? I don't ever recall having this many windy days before 2019. I bloody hate it.

Sorry, but I had to laugh that you challenged the idea of climate change but then said that you don't ever recall so much wind...there's a reason they changed the name from global warming!

I’m in the south west and back in winter pjs. Even the dog is fed up of rainy walks.

changedname1979 · 10/07/2024 22:14

I’m with you, I love the outdoors, the sun, the warmth and my moods are very seasonal, always have been.

I’ve always said I feel like I’m wasting half my life as I spend half of it waiting for the summer months,

I’ve been thinking recently a lot about what I can do if this weather pattern continues as I can’t do it for many more years!

DreamTheMoors · 10/07/2024 22:14

Sorry - I meant to attach this.

Sadly this is climate change though

Maia77 · 10/07/2024 22:15

I wonder if we'll have a week of uninterrupted sunshine and 20C temperature this summer, because it hasn't happened yet (North West). 14C now and raining.

TheaBrandt · 10/07/2024 22:15

Yeah climate change doesn’t just mean it gets hot. For us the effect seems to be cold. Those pensioners retiring to Spain have the right idea.

You are right, it is.

Cheersmedears123 · 10/07/2024 22:16

Actually I take it back. Plenty of sunshine forecast but also “light showers”. Give it a rest!!

I guess we do still have most of July and August left.

It’s the worst idea. Ever. It really is.

Ofcoursehesthefkingfarmer · 10/07/2024 22:17

We’re farmers. This time last year we were ponying up for harvest, this year it’s still three weeks away, the yields look fucking shocking, we haven’t had second cut of grass yet and the cows have already eaten far too much of what should be winter forage thanks to the bastard weather.

I can’t see how agriculture can go another season without catastrophic commodity changes, we’re losing literally tens of thousands of pounds a year.

On the brink of selling up and fucking off to Italy and looking at home many other farmers are selling up, I’m not alone!

BobnLen · 10/07/2024 22:18

We are in a caravan near Durham, we had to dry it out when we got here as the front window leaked on the way up in the rain, tomorrow looks a bit drier but 14c.
