Confirmed the Blackwall tunnel and the new Silvertown tunnel will become toll tunnels in 2025
£4 per crossing 😡😡 add that to the congestion and ULEZ charge hardly worth going to work !!

As do I. I either drive to Stansted or take the train to Gatwick.

As I wrote above the train is not really an option for flights that leave at 6 a.m. or come in at 23 p.m., which most if them do! Oh I know, I could book a hotel and save the ULEZ. Genius 🙄.

Not sure what your point is and I'm certainly not your "mate".

Oh dear. 😆

Sorry pal! 😢

Peonies12 · 11/07/2024 11:08

No one needs to drive into London, there's excellent public transport, taxis, bikes. The majority of car owners in London are wealthy anyway.

ichundich · 11/07/2024 11:09

Floopynetzerolady · 11/07/2024 11:06

My argument is “BAME and poorer Londoners more likely to live in areas with toxic air” and children are actually dying from pollution in London like in Lewisham recently.

Anyway, HTH

Then perhaps campaign for better public transport links outside your London bubble and for diesel scrappage schemes.

But paying for airport parking is £££. It’s often cheaper to get a taxi/uber than pay the parking if you’re needing to get to the airport at silly o’clock. Especially if your return flight lands at a more reasonable hour and you can get public transport home. And this is the case at every airport in the land - the small amount of ULEZ charge really is a tiny percentage of the cost of driving to and parking at an airport.

What, the Gatwick runways are more or less empty between 6am and 11pm?

That is such bollocks. “most” flights are actually during the day because of noise restrictions.

And Gatwick isn’t in the ULEZ anyway.

WTF? Are you suggesting people cycle into London - or to the airports? Not everyone lives close enough to do that! Taxis cost silly prices. And public transport? LOL don't make me laugh. It's ridiculously poor in most places, and even places that have it, get let down by it half the time.

Also PMSL at everyone who owns a car in London being wealthy!

There is some ludicrous and ignorant nonsense being spouted on this thread!

Coffeerum · 11/07/2024 11:11

ichundich · 11/07/2024 10:55

It's not £8 but £25 plus the toll. It purely penalises poorer people who've not had the money to upgrade their car. Also please don't assume my reasons for flying.

What’s £25 plus toll?? What sort of ridiculous route is someone taking to Heathrow where they are going through Blackwall, and apparently the congestion zone and all in a non ULEZ compliment car?

HungryLittleCrocodile · 11/07/2024 11:13

Coffeerum · Today 10:41

I mean so you’re happy to pay for a holiday, the flights, airport parking etc but £8 on top is too much?

This. ^ Batshit isn't it?

Yeah exactly. You could start a petition? Start a protest? Have you written to your MP? Did you contact the Mayor of London?

Don’t sit back and wallow. You could be out there campaigning and being the change you so clearly want.

Whether a taxi is cheaper or not very much depends from where you set off. I'm currently parked at Stansted for £98 for a week... Also there is no Uber where I live, only one taxi firm that has the monopoly and charges £10 for a 3 mile ride. Buses to the next town twice a day Mon to Fri only. The whole country really does not have access to the same affordable transport options that people in and around London enjoy.

You knew that before you moved there. Should have priced it in.

Yep, and people who moved to London know before they moved there that it's polluted.

HowardTJMoon · 11/07/2024 11:23

ichundich · 11/07/2024 10:57

What are you on about? Heathrow is within the ULEZ. To get to Gatwick you need to use the Dartford crossing.

But the Dartford crossing isn't inside ULEZ? Or have I missed your point?

whatdoidonowffs · 11/07/2024 11:24

kirinm · 11/07/2024 10:20

So this was just a shit stirring post as the OP hasn't come back. Nobody really cares about the ULEZ or anything else. Even Uxbridge voted Labour.

Not shit stirring just sleeping 😂😂
yes I can find my way round it with no charge it’s just a pain having to do it
I can see congestion increasing around tower bridge/rotherhithe area as well as the Dartford crossing which is a nightmare whenever you go
I drive an HGV in town so already have to sit in all the queues of traffic caused by the vehicles that don’t come into London 🤦🏻‍♂️
I was merely commenting on the potential for even more charges for motorists when it’s already expensive enough to drive

I don't live near London but I go to all the London airports and I get the train and/or tube to them. No parking costs. Also nice to have the freedom to be able to fly back to a different airport. Wouldn't even cross my mind to consider driving.

Why does your employer have you driving a non ULEZ complaint vehicle and paying the charge yourself? Is it your own HGV?

It absolutely is as there are trains that run to/from Gatwick 24hrs a day. Same for Heathrow. Buses and coaches too.

HowardTJMoon · 11/07/2024 11:32

So you drive an HGV into London. Surely you'd be happy for unnecessary traffic to be persuaded to stay out of London as it'll make your journeys easier?

Coffeerum · 11/07/2024 11:35

ichundich · 11/07/2024 11:19

You’re right. Bring back smog I say! Why improve when you can just say the same!
Who cares about the children who die as a direct result of poor air quality, they should be up chimneys anyway!

You commute in a HGV? How odd. Most people drive HGVs for an employer who would pay any charges.

Some HGV drivers are self employed, and would have to pay the congestion charges themselves, and also any tolls.

HowardTJMoon · 11/07/2024 11:53

As the big, often older, diesel engines in HGVs are among the worst polluters, I'm finding it hard to raise more than a "meh" about the problems of driving them in London.
