My step daughter is a surgeon, one of her uni friends was a naval doctor. He has transitioned to a woman, the surgery also.

A medical professional obviously believes the biology.

The surgery is essentially just him getting his balls chopped off and his dick turned inside out. How does that make him a woman?

Clarabell77 · 09/07/2024 19:25

I’m not anti trans. I don’t mind who is in the toilet cubicle or washing their hands next to me as long as they’re minding their own business.

However, I don’t think male rapists saying they’re a woman now should be placed in women’s prisons. I think most people agree on that.

I don’t believe in giving hormone changing medication to kids. If the human brain isn’t fully matured until mid 20s I don’t see how that can be justified.

Igneococcus · 09/07/2024 19:25

Ask a biologist. To dismiss it out of hand is short sighted.

I'm a biologist but I have no clue how anyone could be born in the "wrong body".

Careful now. Some people don't like straight talking. It's "hate".

A sensible post for once. I agree!

You do understand that height variable and there are both average differences as well as considerable overlap in the height distribution across different social groups (eg by sex, ethnicity etc)?

And you do understand that it’s offensive and discriminatory to make universal declarations about the character/ appearance of a social group based on generalisations and stereotypes?

If you don’t understand these things, I’m afraid I can’t help you.

Edited

There's no truth one can speak of which is inherently degrading. It's all about intent. Since no characteristic is universal to any group, making a universal declaration is not truthful. Making a general observation, otoh, certainly can be.

This reminds me of one hysteric who claimed I was a bigot for observing (and my observation was appropriate in the context of the conversation) that people of primarily Scandinavian descent are, on average, taller than people of primarily Italian descent.
Even after I gave him proof of it, he still screamed that it wasn't true, that it was just bigotry.

Factual truth is what it is. Accusations of any kind of bigotry should not be used to silence it.
If any person has evidence that the telling of it is intended for the sole purpose of being demeaning, that's another matter. That person would naturally be required to substatiate that.

Trans people are extremely traumatised and confused. They deserve a lot of empathy and support. But at the same time, bodies are real and it’s just not possible to change sex, as nice as it would be to be able to choose. To keep women safe we need everyone with a penis kept out of our spaces. I wish it were different but alas. The mutilation of bodies breaks my heart.

Whether people think my child is "delusional" or not, it's what my child thinks that is important. It isn't a whim, or a game or peer pressure or social media or any other random reason that people have who won't accept it. He is who he is,

What is sad, is the abuse that he will get throughout life for no other reason than people dont understand or think he is "delusional ". Is it what I would have wanted? No. Has it taken me time to get used to the idea , oh yes.

Do I still fully get it? No.

But when I took him shopping for new clothes, new haircut etc, I saw him genuinely happy, smiling, happy to have his photo taken for the first time. As his mother, I want him to be happy with who he is. He has to live his life the way he wants to.

As for the thorny subject of toilets, changing rooms etc, he doesn't really want to use either, he would prefer unisex so that he doesn't draw attention to himself. At school they have thankfully facilitated that so it's easier for everyone.

You sound like an amazing mum and I’m glad your son is happy.

I do think some kids experiment though, just like they do with other things. I know of two teenagers who were going from girl to boy and boy to girl, both were supported in school to transition, but they decided to switch back a few years later. This has made me quite firmly against making hormone treatment available for teenagers.

What are you trying to say? That some transwomen are pretty? They were still born male and remain men.
Is it all about looks for you?

Its about looks to some PP like @ArabellaScott and others who talk of height and post photos of cross dressers, yes. CLearly to be accepted by PP like this, they must look as feminine as possible.

As for their chosen careers @eatfigs that is none of my business.

I have about nothing against any man that wants to wear women's clothing. They can crack on! I've got two subs that love wearing women's votes and the youngest son is very "Klaus" from umbrella academy. But they are men. Not women, no matter how much they want to be. They don't get to opt into women hood as that suggests that women's oppression and abuse could just be opted out of. And that's simply not true. We are oppressed BECAUSE of our sex, because of our reproductive status and our biology. And clothing and hair and Mauro doesn't make a woman.

In trans women are really women, why didn't they use them as handmaids in Gilead?

All that said, I would absolutely intervene if I saw a trans woman being bullied or abused. Everybody deserves to live their lives safely and without abuse. That's exactly why women have separate toilets etc.

Yeah because trans people have no idea what it’s like to be oppressed. Please. All minorities should be supporting each other in my opinion. I am a black woman and to me there is no difference in the fight women, lgbt, disabled and people of colour have. We are all just trying to find a space in a world dominated by able bodied, straight, white, cis gendered men so let’s all fight that together rather than turning on each other. Which is what the powerful people want as it stops us all uniting and turning on them.

If all the posters complaining about "transphobia", "hate", "transphobes", "bigotry", "derailing" etc etc etc actually came out with some decent, justified arguments for once instead of avoiding questions, making unevidenced statements and flouncing, this thread would be a far more enlightening discussion.

It's so easy to fling the word "hate" around when what you actually mean is "somebody disagreed with me and I can't cope with that".

Well stated.
I haven't seen a single solid argument that being in favour of keeping single sex spaces is inherently phobic, bigoted or hateful, because there isn't one.
Could arguments in favour of single sex spaces be used by a hateful people? Sure. For example, the far right borrows them (and uses them ineptly) to suit an entirely different agenda. Lots of good arguments can be used by unscrupulous people.
That doesn't change the nature of these arguments. The intent is everything.

I'm not sure looking feminine includes using your penis in a porn film.
