It’s shit isn’t it?

everything is wet. The sound of the rain on the tent is too loud to sleep.

So shit. So, so shit. One of the many shit things about camping.

We are going camping in August😪

You have my sympathy

PlantDoctor · 05/07/2024 23:17

It sucks when you can't get wet stuff dry. To stop it getting wet, make sure nothing is touching the sides of the tent. Rain will wick through the sides if something touches it.

I like the sound of rain on a tent, but not torrential rain I guess!

Sorry it's a rainy night. Much more fun when it's not horrible weather.

SkippysEar · 05/07/2024 23:17

It's rubbish. Do you have electric hook up?!

Emily1583 · 05/07/2024 23:18

Ha yeah been there done it many a time. You think why on earth am I here outside

Intheband · 05/07/2024 23:18

My friend and I who usually take husbands are very thankful to be holed up in a caravan instead of tents this evening - it’s so cold for July

rewilded · 05/07/2024 23:18

I love the sound of rain on the tent at night but rain in the morning is not fun at all.

mitogoshi · 05/07/2024 23:19

Hate it, especially wind as well. Worst is at night when you need to go to the toilet. Thankfully only a bit of rain during camping 2 weeks ago and no night to deal with as far far north

Foodsafe · 05/07/2024 23:20

Thanks for the solidarity. This is a very basic campsite. Absolutely nowhere to get dry. Also absolutely nowhere to get clean. When my phone battery runs out I am not even going to have anywhere for my mind to escape to

I am considering baling on my camping holiday in July. I love camping but last summer and this year have been just awful for camping.

TheCompactPussycat · 05/07/2024 23:23

I don't mind camping in the rain but only because I go in a big tent so we have plenty of room to stay dry inside and play board games.

LoreleiG · 05/07/2024 23:23

Yes it’s really crap. You need to charge your phone! You have my sympathy. It is really dire not being able to get dry.

Emily1583 · 05/07/2024 23:36

Oh a external charger is a must have for these sort of situations

Exactly this. Our tent is huge - we always camp in the uk and despite it being usually in the summer holidays we’ve had plenty of rain. So we have a massive tent with plenty of living space inside, and a big front area we can open up a bit and cook well under cover. And many battery charger packs in case.

Been there in a small tent in the rain though - I remember trying to avoid the drips one year. Good luck.

Gather round on the Camping board!

I am camping with two teenagers as a treat for finishing exams and we leave in the morning. My tent is a 2.5kg three person tent which you can’t stand up in. We won’t have electricity or toilets. There is nowhere in the tent that doesn’t touch the sides. Tell me it will be OK?

Is there a nearby pub?

IHateWasps · 06/07/2024 00:14

YABU because camping is shit generally.

That's a treat?? It's been torrential all day, it will be grim...

How can there not be toilets?? I dread to think

LadyWiddiothethird · 06/07/2024 00:51

Always buy a tent much larger than you think you need, unless camping alone.

On the off chance this isn't a wind-up: I am a camping enthusiast, but this sounds hellish to me even with perfect camping weather. No matter how much we love and get along with our DCs, that is too little space to be squashed into with another 2 adult-sized people except in the most dire of circumstances.
If you can, stop off and buy a second 2-berth tent for you as a minimum and ideally a shelter/gazebo of some kind too so you all have somewhere to sit/cook/eat together, with the entrances to your tents opening just under it.

As for the lack of toilet, what is your plan exactly...?

Taking a shovel might make things slightly better. Soggy toilet roll will add to the experience.

That's what we thought... but torrential rain a few years ago was the final straw for us.
Imagine sitting in a tent and you can actually see the raindrops hitting like 1000's of needles trying to get in!
Then they disperse a fine mist inside...
It wasn't even in the UK, but abroad it was meant to be lovely and sunny!

Just take my advice, don't do it again, ever!
