Woman complained to manager about DD

Bearaque · 05/07/2024 21:40

So my DD works at McDonalds whilst she’s at sixth form and today she’s come home upset. She was working at the window, handing out the food.

This woman made a complaint to the manager that DD didn’t say a single word to her or look at her when she passing her the drink and food and that she was too busy talking to her friend. Complained to manager who had words with them both.

DD said this was true but at the end of the day it’s McDonald’s, it’s full of teenagers, as long as you get your food quickly does it even matter what the service is like?!

OP posts:

And this is why teachers have a hard time.parents who are like you.

What? She opened a bag of compost, ran over it then threw it into the house then lied. That’s not remotely normal behaviour.

What's this

FanSaBhaile · 06/07/2024 11:24

OP if your daughter is so disdainful of her job at McDonald's she should give it up so someone who actually wants the job and will be pleasant to customers can take it.

OP what's the Alexander McQueen thing?

Its a tantrum.

Mrsredlipstick · 06/07/2024 11:33

@Caththegreat spot on. My daughter complained about a pronoun when she was 15. The poor teacher feared for his job as it was the hight of gender ideology. Her father and I made her apologise. She's never done it again.

Differentstarts · 06/07/2024 11:34

I think the customer complaining to the manager rather then just saying something to your daughter was a bit extreme and not something i would ever do, but i couldn't care less if a stranger smiles and chats to me, just give me the food and make sure the order is correct, but some people are very needy and just like to whinge. However your daughter does need to learn to actually acknowledge the customers as a minimum

BuyOrBake · 06/07/2024 11:35

McDonald's use mystery shoppers to check service standards are being met. It would have been worse for your dd if she had been serving a mystery shopper!
You are very wrong to think it doesn't really matter as its "only McDonald's ".

Wow, what a bitchy little comment, it’s very rude fo keep talking fo your mate, not look at the customer and just hand the food over without a word or even acknowledging them. It doesn’t make the customer needy or a whinger . Grow up.

Who’s flounced off?

Are you okay?

It's an odd response to what they posted.

You really think it's that deep that a 16 year old doesn't acknowledge you that you would go park your car let your food get cold to go in to talk to a manager about someone not saying hello. If this is your biggest problem in life you are blessed.

Funkyslippers · 06/07/2024 11:47

Different managers have "had words" with me over the years, it's no big deal, just learn from it and move on. "Just McDonald's " is not a valid excuse, the meals in there are not particularly cheap any more and i would expect good customer service whenever i go. On the flip side, the staff in my local McDonald's are always helpful and friendly, no matter what their ages, and it really does go a long way. My dd's first job was working in a restaurant and there is no way she would have gotten away with bad manners to the paying customers

I never said it was ok, my point was it’s McDonald’s. Is it really that deep to complain so long as the food is ok? Yes she shouldn’t have been rude but the woman could have just said that, she didn’t need to go complain to a manager.

I think this particular customer simply dealt with one teenager too many who was rude and dissinterested in doing the job she is paid for correctly. Reading through this thread, makes it seem that a lot of teenagers think this behavior is acceptable. Like your daughter, they all need a wakeup call.

Harrysarseinthedogbowl · 06/07/2024 11:54

Welcome to the world of work, sweetie.

IthinkIsawahairbrushbackthere · 06/07/2024 11:56

Wherever I'm eating whether it's a restaurant, a bar meal or fast food I don't mind about mistakes but there is zero excuse for poor service and I will comment on it every time. Equally so I will go out of my way to tip and comment on good service - even in McDonalds. I would definitely complain about that sort of behaviour.

It is the height of rudeness to carry on conversations while serving customers. I really hate when this happens- good on the woman for complaining.

I agree. Sorry OP but as a customer this is really annoying and you don't do it.

Manager was correct to talk to her. And she needs to learn from it and move on.

But she’s not making sure the order is correct and she’s not doing the basic minimum of acknowledging the customer. That’s what the complaint was - the “needy whinger” didn’t complain about her not smiling and chatting, she complained that she didn’t acknowledge her and, as a consequence of not acknowledging her or talking AT ALL, she also didn’t check the order was correct. You can’t say “I want to be acknowledged and have the person check it’s the correct order” and say anyone else who wants this is a needy whinger.

She could have pulled her up on it herself, but realistically anyone who is so unaware that you need to acknowledge the customer would probably just roll their eyes and bitch to their mate about what a twat the customer was. This way the terrible employee has a chance of becoming a basically adequate employee which is much better for her in the long term.

I agree. In last few years, the level of service has gone down. So what she works in McDonald's, take your job seriously even if you think it is temporary.

Woman was right to complain. What do you mean it's not deep, she got her order. Does your dd know she has a job, it's not a favour giving a customer their food. Teach her to respect the work whether it is McDonald's or a high flying corporate career. Chit chat with other teenagers after shift or when not serving customers.

Yabu

Hopefully it's a lesson learnt.

Good manners go a long way in life.

Oh sorry wrong thread,,

Onelifeonly · 06/07/2024 12:09

Not many customers would bother to complain but many times more will have noticed your daughter's rudeness. As they say, manners cost nothing.

I'm 60 and I can still recall being completely ignored as a shy teen every time I went into a particular famous high street chain store, now long defunct, by older teen shop assistants chatting to each other at the till. Even if most customers are teens, they don't deserve to be treated rudely. No one does.

hot2trotter · 06/07/2024 12:15

Sorry but that's not how it works in customer facing jobs - regardless of the fact it's "just" McDonald's.
It's happened to me a few times at various places and it is the epitome of rude when you are ignored by the person serving you so that they can continue their conversation with another staff member. I feel the same whenever I go in Aldi or Lidl and they are talking to co-workers on headsets the entire time.

Onelifeonly · 06/07/2024 12:15

There is a saying, or used to be: if a job's worth doing, it's worth doing well. Good advice in my opinion, whether the job is paid or not.

Sounds like OP has no respect for anyone using McDonalds - I despise that kind of attitude, we are all human and deserving of respect.

My DC have professional careers, all say that they learned a lot from their weekend jobs in McDonalds. It taught them to multi task, work hard and Instilled good customer service skills.
They often joke "if you have got time to chat, you have got time to clean" which was their bosses motyo.

Years ago I had a colleague whose son worked through 6th form in McD's. he decided to not go to Uni, he stayed with McD's, became the branch manager and then the manager, or whatever the job title was, for a large area of the country. As this poster says one tends to learn more for McD's etc than expected.
