Working Cocker Spaniel?

Hi, posting here for traffic.

we've recently taken in an 8 month old dog, he's supposed to be a full pedigree Working Cocker Spaniel, however I'm not convinced that he is and now I'm thinking he's going to grow much bigger 🙈 he's seems quite big already and his ears look shorter then other working cocker spaniels I know. What do you all think, aibu to think he's mixed with another breed? We love him either way, I'd just like a heads up if he's going to get much bigger.

He looks like he has some retriever in him to me

GiggleMugsMandy · 05/07/2024 18:54

That doesn’t look pedigree tbh. Still cute though!

FunLurker · 05/07/2024 18:54

I'd say not pedigree.

He is very cute, but hard work, he does not stop 🙈 he's had no training though but he's come on leaps since we got him on Monday 🥰

Lol. No, that is absolutely not a working Cocker.

BotterMon · 05/07/2024 18:57

Looks more retriever than cocker. Cute. Vet should be able to give you an idea. Paws don't look huge though so maybe not too much growth to come.

WiddlinDiddlin · 05/07/2024 18:58

Looks like a working cocker to me, but could just as easily be a cross.

A pedigree working cocker may look NOTHING like a show type cocker and yet still be a pedigree cocker, may still have the full, legitimate KC papers even. Wockers look very different to show types.

RaininSummer · 05/07/2024 19:04

He does look like a cross breed. I used to have a working cocker. So much energy.

dammit88 · 05/07/2024 19:06

I agree he looks a cross. But very cute!

He has papers apparently, but i believe they can be faked?

my DH took the dog round to see his old owner today and I told him to ask for his papers and vaccination record but he forgot 🙄 I'll get him to pop round again over weekend.

No expert, but have lived next door to a working cocker for 3 years (and his humans, obviously) and he doesn’t really resemble your gorgeous pup. However, the boundless energy sounds familiar!

TheSerenePinkOrca · 05/07/2024 18:58

Ah, I didn't know this was even a thing, thank you! It may be worth doing as it would be handy to know if he's mixed with another breed.

His paws look huge to me but our other dog is a frenchie so that could be why lol

It might be a wcs if he's been clipped short. Wait and see if the hair grows! We have 2, both about 18kg but with parents were larger too. They can be between about 10 and 20kg or so.

Enjoy - they are the most wonderful annoying gorgeous knobheads ever!!

TeenLifeMum · 05/07/2024 19:11

What does he weigh? Here's my working cocker.

Looks like a retriever right? He has papers apparently but we've not picked them up yet, dh popped round today but forgot to get them 🙄 I'm sure that papers could be faked though? 🤔

Definitely got the working cocker grin. None of my WCS' ears have grown proper spaniel like until they were over 1-1/2.

Does look a bit lab like in the body but could be the angle and her colour. Need more pics obviously 😉

Lovelylydia · 05/07/2024 19:12

Lovely pup but agree with others - looks like a wcs/retriever cross 🐾

LuluBlakey1 · 05/07/2024 19:13

Does it matter- he looks lovely.

Primefungus · 05/07/2024 19:15

If he sleeps upside down with legs in the air and head hanging off the chair then he's a cooker! Here's one of mine....

My working cocker didn’t get the ears until he was around one too. He does have crazy energy but is a people pleaser so easily trained.
It looks like you have a beautiful pup no matter what breed he is, I’m sure with some gentle training he will be an amazing pet.

He definitely has some of the cocker traits, his personality is so much like my friends working cocker, but he also has some traits similar to another friends golden retriever. He's so lovely though and very photogenic I think 😊

Not at all, he's so lovely. I just feel it would be handy to know, especially with training him (he's never had any training so currently starting from the beginning with him) and for any possible future health problems that may arise 😊
