And me, I have woken up with a heavy heart this morning, in the knowledge that my daughters are at risk. I only hope that Labour, or at least KS are out before they are old enough to be in girls changing areas on their own. My elderly hard working parents are about to be taxed and may not live to see the party who destroyed my Dads private pension removed from power, as both dont have the best health. As a family we both work for the NHS, and I expect to see more pointless targets and waiting time fiddling, our pay may or may not go up but our taxes definitely will, so we will either be worse off or the same.
But my daughters state school will have 0.5% more money from private school tax, so thats all OK!!!!!!

What are your daughters at risk from?

Liz truss isn't a communicator and she has always seemed bizzare and dis connected.

Which bit of this fits the "AIBU" topic or is it a classic case of "can't be arsed to use other topics"?

FundingitallHow · 05/07/2024 09:07

@LawrieForShepherdsBoy mumsnet got me invested in this issue, look at the feminism boards and see some links posted.. For m**e a shocker was a report complied by the daughter of a trans man to Parliament.
Look at stonewall history and how they have been "training" nearly all our public bodies for the last decade.
It's absolutely mind boggling

When you have people worrying about housing and immigration it's not so much of a shock.

That some are elected as independents whilst campaigning on Gaza is also a shock. Yes most people would like the war to end and peace reign, but usually a candidate cares about improvements here rather than goings outside their control in the middle east. That will lead to more devision and more reform voters. People don't usually get elected whilst primarily talking about what they will do for another country!

As a lifelong Labour voter, I feel strongly that KS now needs to show leadership in bringing the conflict in Gaza to an end and helping to create a free Palestinian state.

You might only care about what happens on your doorstep but many others, including me, can no longer bear to see the mass genocide of thousands of children.

A change of management for the UK. Now it's time for the graft.

Labour needs to tackle the migrant gangs as promised, turn round the asylum seekers pronto, sort out legal migration - all as promised. Get potholes fixed, councils working efficiently, sort out knife crime and the mood in our great country can be uplifted again.

Get our NHS waiting times cut, immediate doctors appointments (fed up of the morning call!), tackle anti social behaviour and get the British Energy company up and running - cheap bills for all. We so need this.

Get those SureStart Centres up and running again, so many people miss them.

Bloody leave our women's rights alone. Not happy if he messes with our rights.

If all the above is sorted, I will be a happy bunny.

There are still many sure start centres, they are just called children's centres now.
And don't hope too much - where I work in Ealing, the labour council, with the support of the local Labour MP, tried to shut down our childrens centres, including the specialist nurseries for children with SEN. I also appealed to a labour MP who I knew through my antenatal group for support with this, and she wouldn't, she was a thoroughly unpleasant person, and was gutted this morning to see that she is now MP for the area I moved to recently.

What effect do you truly believe the labour party can have in ending the atrocities in Gaza?

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 05/07/2024 07:32

If you actually look at the results I wouldn't call it a labour win, i'd call it a conservative loss. The percentage change isn't that huge. But as they say a change is as good as a rest. Bring it on.

I think if they're complacent about it though, they'll be gone as quick as they came. The big parties really need to take note on the reform vote numbers. More than the lib dems. Although the mumsnetters of the world will be horrified and scream racism at anyone who voted reform, that vote share really needs to be considered. People are pissed, they didn't vote for the other parties for a reason and those reasons really need to be strongly taken into consideration.

Agree I doubt half the people who voted even read their policies, they just wanted conservative out.

dacdser · 05/07/2024 09:39

@LilyofftheValley do you care about the other atrocities and genocides around the world or just this one, which was provoked by Hamas on October 7th?

Congrats to he UK from the US!

Some will be disappointed but at least we’ll see the smooth transfer of power here.

GrinAndBeerIt · 05/07/2024 09:44

Gutted.

ZoeHS · 05/07/2024 09:46

I’m ECSTATIC that the tories are gone but Labour have got a long road ahead of them and I’m really hoping this country improves because it’s just an absolute shambles.

Also ecstatic about the Green party’s results but saddened by the fact they are not getting the coverage they deserve.

I think Labour and the whole country need to be weary of Reform; their result is sinister and further confirmation this country has far too many racist, impressionable, selfish, ignorant c*nts. I’m hoping their MPs won’t last long before they break the law or actually realise what being an MP entails. I hope the decent people of Clacton are filling Farage’s inbox with requests for meetings about potholes and bins as I type so he’s too busy with that rather than out spreading his racist hate.

Pippa246 · 05/07/2024 09:58

I’m calling it now - in 8 years we’ll all be saying ….get Labour out/vote Tory. Sadly I really do believe no party will be able to get it right for this country as the world is too fucked. We will never control migration, the super rich will always fuck us over, religious hatred will never go away, misogyny will continue to erode the rights of women and girls. The list goes on.

I am delighted however that the SNP tanked in Scotland. Great to see Stephen Flynn squirming on TV - he had the audacity to say the the SNP had to now focus on the “bread and butter” issues for the Scottish people - you mean like gender self ID, allowing males to provide intimate care on women against their will and making sure rapists are cushty in women’s prisons? Yeah, real priorities for the average Scot in the street!

tuvamoodyson · 05/07/2024 10:02

Dotjones · 05/07/2024 08:55

It's great to see the SNP decimated so comprehensively. Given their intentions to use this election as a de factor referendum I guess they'll shut up about independence now. What do you mean, of course not, they'll twist this as a mandate for it?

It's good to see the Tories lose but terrible to see Labour win. Whoever got in, it's going to be a shit-show for the next few years. There is no cause for optimisim, things are going to get much worse.

Ah yes! The ‘once in a lifetime opportunity’ to have independence! So sick of this lying, corrupt shower.

Of course I care and want the conflict to end and peace as most people do. Why do people make incorrect assumptions.

However when some shout soundbites it worries people. It's divisive. Hence reform rise. People's fears need acknowledging and understanding to being society together for all. Otherwise look at Europe and how that us going.

Didimum · 05/07/2024 10:13

Freysimo · 05/07/2024 08:36

I totally agree. Incredible that Labour won a "landslide" victory with fewer votes than Corbyn got in 2019!

Their vote share is up from 2019, number down by 600k. That's because the centralists and left voted tactically specifically to unseat Tories. Whereas the Tories were simply abandoned.

US2gether · 05/07/2024 10:15

@LilyofftheValley how do you propose he brings the conflict to an end? The US latest negotiations weren't accepted by Hamas who wanted changes or Israel who are now currently accepting peace talks and have sent a representative. It's not exactly easy or in the control of our country. Hey Hamas release the hostages and stop firing rockets at Israel. Hey Netanyahue stop going after Hamas when innocents are in the way. I wish it was easy!

I think with the way this country has supported Ukrainian refugees and the Ukrainian war effort, I don't think it's fair to say we only care about our own country. But we in Europe have very limited impact on what happens in the middle east. Countries like Egypt and the UAE are much bigger than us in their influence in the Gaza conflict.
I absolutely agree it's horrific that actions of hammas terrorists and the Israeli government are causing such a huge loss of life, but I'm not sure what you would suggest we could do. We tried to intervene in Iraq, and ultimately just made things worse.

How about....no longer actively supplying weapons to a government that's already been censured by the ICJ as potentially genocidal

I agree with the first part of your post - any government is going to face a tough time dealing with global political and climate upheaval and the resulting refugees.

Absolutely agree with you. A government which works for most people is centre right or centre left depending on people circumstances. An extreme party is helpful for very few, but it's worrying that so many feel so disenfranchised with both tories and labour that they would vote for them.

The message among those who wanted a Labour majority was to vote tactically, not to simply vote for Labour. This has been successful. I'd definitely call that a Labour win.
