Thank you, I am ecstatic and shed more than a few tears last night.

My children are waking up to a Labour government for the first time in their lives and I feel hopeful for the future.

No commiserations for the SNP here!! So glad to see they got their corrupt, lying backsides kicked! Couldn’t be happier!

Fingers crossed Swinney & Co
listen to the message the Scottish electorate has sent and spend the next 18 months or so before the Scottish elections dismantling all the benefits and protections the SNP have put in place.

It's definitely time for tuition fees, the bedroom tax and prescription fees to be implemented up here and for free elderly care, the child payment and council tax freezes to be removed.

Great result! My county has gone totally red!

Hate NF but I do think he should be an MP as he is such a big political voice - he can put his money where his mouth is now.

Well not really (re NF). He still can’t do anything that he has to be held accountable for, he just has a platform to shout his crap a bit louder 🙄

TaylorBrown · 05/07/2024 07:23

Time to watch the country turn to s*t (er) well done everyone who voted labour....youse will soon see. We will be paying by the mile to drive soon.

Arewealljustloosingtheplot · 05/07/2024 07:25

I don’t know a single person who voted labour and there is no red near me on the map.

let’s hope they do better than last time. I can’t wait for them to magic up doctors and teachers!

Evilspiritgin · 05/07/2024 05:55

I think turnout was even less than 2019, I think I saw 60% being bandied about

Wouldn't surprise me. It is not a brilliant result. Few support Labour. Dissatisfaction is high.

Labour win

I'm really concerned about Reform. Protest vote or not, it's scary.

What’s scary about them? It’s good to have another party who’s finally a contester for the main two.

Ayearover · 05/07/2024 07:26

I know quite a few mum friends who voted Reform - purely because of their manifesto contract to ban transgender ideology being taught in schools.

Well they're unlikely to actively set out to beat down these professions as the Tories have. But yes, it's going to be a long and hard road to recovery.

Antsinmypantsneedtodance · 05/07/2024 07:32

If you actually look at the results I wouldn't call it a labour win, i'd call it a conservative loss. The percentage change isn't that huge. But as they say a change is as good as a rest. Bring it on.

I think if they're complacent about it though, they'll be gone as quick as they came. The big parties really need to take note on the reform vote numbers. More than the lib dems. Although the mumsnetters of the world will be horrified and scream racism at anyone who voted reform, that vote share really needs to be considered. People are pissed, they didn't vote for the other parties for a reason and those reasons really need to be strongly taken into consideration.

So we are not in the shit now?

We don't have the worst CoL crisis compared to our ( once) peers?

We don't have the worst health service compared to our ( once ) peers?

We don't have an education crisis when we used to have an education system envied by the world ?

We haven't driven thousands more families into poverty over the last 14 years?

We haven't allowed the housing market to completely fail ?

We haven't abandoned those who need support to whatever they can afford to pay for theme selves or guilt trip a fighter to provide?

You think I should be scared living standards will fall even further ?

If you are in the top 20% then perhaps your standards will fall but you expect the 80% to be bothered ? After the concern shown to the 80% over the last 14 years?

Reap what you sow

This! 👏

Just saying i think it's going to get alot worse.

guinnessguzzler · 05/07/2024 07:48

Thing is, for a lot of people, it really doesn't feel like it could get any worse. The Tories did that.

MJon · 05/07/2024 07:49

Good to see Truss lose hers after all the damage she did.

She behaved very strangely when they announced it didn't she!

Tryingtokeepgoing · 05/07/2024 07:51

Well, I’ve woken up to a Lib Dem MP and a Labour government. The blue skies and sunshine of the last few weeks have been replaced by grey skies, wind and heavy rain. Not an omen I hope 😂

Sahara123 · 05/07/2024 07:53

FundingitallHow · 04/07/2024 22:34

Things were bad at the end of the last Labour government and services were under tremendous strain.
Then the credit crisis hit.
Then the tory had a coalition, then austerity, and then brexit and covid and Ukraine war.

I should feel excited but I don't have any faith that my life will be better. I can only see it getting worse unfortunately for myself and my girls.
We are not a high earning family either, in fact after years of struggle I finally feel slightly better off! I think they will take my pitiful wage from me, reduce my rights and make life miserable again

Edited

I agree .

Bushmillsbabe · 05/07/2024 07:59

Kitkatcatflap · 05/07/2024 03:16

You've have accurately described how I feel.

And me, I have woken up with a heavy heart this morning, in the knowledge that my daughters are at risk. I only hope that Labour, or at least KS are out before they are old enough to be in girls changing areas on their own. My elderly hard working parents are about to be taxed and may not live to see the party who destroyed my Dads private pension removed from power, as both dont have the best health. As a family we both work for the NHS, and I expect to see more pointless targets and waiting time fiddling, our pay may or may not go up but our taxes definitely will, so we will either be worse off or the same.
But my daughters state school will have 0.5% more money from private school tax, so thats all OK!!!!!!

Startingagainandagain · 05/07/2024 08:01

Some really sore losers on this thread...

Accept that Labour won by a landslide and that the majority of us are happy to see the back of the Tories who used the last 14 years to make themselves and their dodgy mates richer while everything crumbled from the NHS to public services around them.

Mow Labour has a massive task of trying to rebuild things but at least some hope has returned.

Me too, we are lifelong labour voters, but with 2 daughters, and elderly parents, not this time

EnglishBluebell · 05/07/2024 08:04

@Bushmillsbabe Your daughters are not "at risk" ffs
