I am 5 ft 3. Have lost 25 pounds. Have a goal weight of 125 pounds. I should add that I have PCOS which means I put on weight easily.

Just wondering if you can only be that slim if you have a naturally high metabolism/are very active.
I’m on a lot of dieting forums and many people (my height) say it is just not sustainable for them to be below 10 stone.

But having said that you see plenty of slim people who don’t appear to be massively restricting.

I consume 1300 calories to lose weight. Exercise 3/4 x a week.

Just figuring out my goal.

I'm 5"4 and around 8st 10 most of the time. I'm on my feet a lot at work (long shifts) and I am pretty mindful of my eating habits altho I still eat rubbish on occasion!! Today I grabbed odds and ends from the fridge as have Ocado coming late tonight, so I've been at work not drinking enough but this is what I've planned for the shift :
1 sourdough bagel with Philadelphia light
One large avocado
A turmeric shot
Cup of tea (ideally with lactose free milk)
Choc oatie bar 130cal
Largish pot of cottage cheese with pineapple

Will probably pick up a sweet potato and brocolli cold salad from M&S on my way home later and have a twister or something before bed.

MimitteAndElsaGoToSwitzerland · 04/07/2024 15:26

I'm the same height and I'm eight stone.

I tend to eat what I fancy, but I don't have a massive appetite so usually that's one big meal in the evenings. I'm not hungry for breakfast and I can't be bothered to get lunch a lot of the time.

For my dinner, I'll have whatever I like. I love a curry or a burger or really buttery pasta. I don't consider calories at all. I don't actually know very much about how many calories are in things. It's all about what will taste nice, so I throw in a lot of olive oil or butter.

I don't have much of a sweet tooth so I'm not having cake or biscuits much. I am a bit of a hazard around crisps though. I'll eat an entire multi pack in an evening so I don't buy those all the time because I couldn't afford to keep up with myself!

I drink an absolute ton of water every day. No alcohol, unless it's the weekend and I'm out with friends. When I've been dating someone who drinks in the week and I get tempted to join in regularly, I pile it on.

I also don't drink any sugary drinks regularly and never have tea or coffee.

I wouldn't say my diet was particularly healthy so I wouldn't encourage you to copy it! But since you asked!

rokaaroundthechristmastree · 04/07/2024 15:27

One of the key points for me is, do not succumb to the cakes and biscuits that invariably hang around in offices etc. I buy grapes and strawberries for my wards, not chocs!

rokaaroundthechristmastree · 04/07/2024 15:28

I also barely drink alcohol. I think that's an important one.

GiveItAGoMalcom · 04/07/2024 15:32

I'm 5ft 3, weight just under 9 stone.

I genuinely eat whatever I want, whenever I want, even though I'm 55 years old and perimenopausal with an underactive thyroid.

But what I have noticed is I seem to eat less than a lot of overweight people, whose eating habits I've been privy to.

So it's probably more to do with the fact I eat 2 meals a day and rarely snack as I just don't get that hungry.

I also don't drive, so walk mostly everywhere.

It’s probably the fasting / long breaks in between meals that helps keep the weight off maybe?

Yeah, definitely staying off daily alcohol makes a huge difference.

My weight here between March and May was when I was having a couple of glasses of wine every evening with a boyfriend who drank a lot. You can see it just shoots up.

midgetastic · 04/07/2024 15:33

Taller but under 10 stone

Eat breakfast - cheese buttie, or eggs and toast or peanut butter on toast
Crisps
Nuts
Lunch - buttie or salad - cheese , tuna that sort of thing , sometimes a veggy soup
Dinner yesterday was 2 egg chips and coleslaw ( homemade) ( shop mayo )
and today is lentil bolognaise with pasta
Chocolate biscuit
Probably a drink tonight as it's Thursday and perhaps more crisps or a handful of sweets
2 fruit - strawberries and plums today

It's in the portion sizes
Compared to many in the office I have a small bag of crisps not large , a two bar kit kat not a four bar one , loads of veg

Also it's home made bread - which comes out smaller than modern white loaf so you need way less cheese to fill it up - I get away with half a ton of sardines whereas the shop bread needs a whole tin

Yes, that's likely. I'm filling up on water during those times.

Crucially, I don't feel especially hungry with it because I reckon my stomach is quite small. Then when I do eat, I feel full really fast. I usually need a few goes at a plate of food before I've finished it.

Notmycircusnotmyotter · 04/07/2024 15:39

I'm 5"4 and 7 stone 7. I eat healthy whole foods, very little processed at all.

I will never be thin again will I 🤔

Flixon · 04/07/2024 15:45

5'2 and 8 stone. im 59. i eat, not much to be honest, I have a sedentary job, but my off time I'm very active ( i have horses). I don't drink alcohol, don't eat breakfast, rarely eat before 3pm and generally have one meal a day. I gain weight easily. and i don't want to so I discipline myself. But I do eat chocolate if I feel like it !

Ihaveoflate · 04/07/2024 15:46

I'm 5'3" and I weigh just above 8st. My BMI is 20.

I eat around 1500 calories a day during the week and whatever I want at the weekend. I also do high intensity exercise 3 times a week.

During the week I don't touch bread, I eat only between 10am and 6pm, I don't eat crisps, cake or biscuits. I don't eat processed food or meat. I drink very little alcohol.

I am naturally slim and I used to be able to eat anything and not put on weight. I find that as I get older though, I have to be much more disciplined to stay at my current weight.

BobbyBiscuits · 04/07/2024 15:47

My issue is I can go for a couple of days barely eating anything, but then some days I can't stop eating. I try and eat a main meal and then will either have snacks or one other small meal.
I'm quite skinny and 165cms. I do drink alcohol, I think if I didn't I would lose weight.

Hoppinggreen · 04/07/2024 15:51

DD is
She is a vegetarian and doesnt eat fish or eggs either.
She likes pulses and some cheese, eats pasta but not with creamy sauces
She eats lots of vegetables but not much fruit
She does like Sourdough or other seeded bread and the odd bagel but not a huge carb fan.

ChickpeaPie · 04/07/2024 15:52

I’m your height and your goal weight although sometimes I’m less and sometimes more.
I have a terrible relationship with food after having been quite naturally in the 7.5- 8 stone range for most of my adult life and then gaining a stone or two in pregnancy and after having kids. I now either calorie count extremely strictly, weighing everything I eat, or I go through periods of binging and eating anything I can find. I have a cut off though and have never been above 9.5 stone, it’s at that weight that I start the calorie counting.
It’s not healthy for my kind or body and I wouldn’t recommend it!

snowballedinhell · 04/07/2024 15:53

I'm 5ft 1.5 - PCOS and weigh 7.5st

I eat 800 calories a day

snowballedinhell · 04/07/2024 15:54

Also - one meal a day mainly, never breakfast

No alcohol

It's fairly fuckin miserable

Stressymadre · 04/07/2024 15:55

I'm 5'4 and weight around 8 stone 10. I don't restrict myself but I naturally make healthy choices I think.
Breakfast is granola and fruit
Lunch can get skipped but I try to eat a sandwich or a salad
Snacks would be fruit, yogurt or a couple of biscuits
Dinner is always homemade with lots of veg as that's what I enjoy! I don't do puddings, again as I just don't enjoy them (unless I'm tired or have PMS!!)
I drink maybe 3 glasses of wine a week
I do exercise a fair amount though. I run around 15k a week and go to the gym twice a week for just over an hour each time. I work from home so job is sedentary but I walk for the school run and walk the dog too.

Nicflowers82 · 04/07/2024 15:59

I am your height and goal weight. Mid 40s . I am active (running 2-3 times a week) and also I lift weights a couple of times a week which seems to help me be able to eat a decent amount : 3 meals a day plus the odd treat and snack , and alcohol at weekends. Especially as we get older I think being active is key for us all , even if just daily walking, otherwise the weight can creep up and be harder to lose.

midgetastic · 04/07/2024 15:59

@snowballedinhell

I couldn't normally eat 800 calories easily in one meal without feeling crap afterwards - just a bit too much

Just goes to show we are all so different!

heinzseight · 04/07/2024 16:00

I've got down to 122 lbs previously, I'm 5'4. I was eleven and a half stone about a year post baby and just got fed up and started eating very little. I then had another baby and lost a bit more afterwards breastfeeding. It was t sustainable for me at all in the long run and was right before lockdown, over last four years I'm back up to ten stone. I think 9 stone 4 ish is about where I'd like to be but I know I'd have to be super super strict and I'm just not sure I can be bothered.

Southlondoner88 · 04/07/2024 16:12

I’m short and slim ish, although another few pounds and I’d be bordering on an unhealthy BMI. Not sure if it’s relevant but I’m pescatarian.

I’ve never dieted really and tbh most people I know who diet lose it and then put it all back on.

I try not to eat fried food or highly saturated fattening things but I don’t eliminate them completely.

so basically I don’t very often eat chips, crisps that are fried, pasteries, chipper food/ McDonald’s, excessive sweets and cakes.

I do eat chocolate every day although I stop at two squares or two biscuits. I also eat Popchips (crisps) because they are lighter and popcorn. I eat ice cream or drink hot chocolate occasionally. If I get a takeaway, I eat non fried stuff if I can like Dahl and rice or noodles/ curry.I do try to eat nuts to fill up instead of crisps etc. I am quite bad at eating fruit but am trying to make a conscious effort. Supposedly you are supposed to fill half your plate with veg but I struggle with this, again I am trying and go through phases.

So far today I’ve eaten, sourdough toast, a homemade smoothie, tortellini with broccoli, for dinner I will likely eat tofu and noodles that I’ll cook with veg or I’ll have a veggie burger with homemade chips. I might have chocolate after. I walk my dogs daily also.

in my early twenties I was a notorious junk food eater and was just lucky that I was slim, I would not get away with this now. At about 26, I cut out all junk food and was a quite strict (obsessive), stopped eating chips, all sweets, pastries for about a year. Then I got over myself and started introducing a more balanced diet, I did find after that I no longer craved junk food and something like McDonald’s or a cake would make feel sick, it still does. Not saying you should obsessively restrict but you might find giving up some things for a while stops the cravings/ bad habits.

Guine · 04/07/2024 16:13

Seems unsustainable for me then going off some these posts. I’m not able to skip meals because I literally get shaky. I occasionally skip breakfast but that’s about it.

I’m not having crazy rich meals but I’m certainly having solid, filling ones.

Typical food diary to lose weight:

Breakfast: scrambled eggs with vegetarian breakfast patty/boiled eggs and a slice of toast

Lunch: Chinese chicken salad and a sweet yoghurt

Dinner: protein, baby potatoes and salad

Snacks: wine, fruit and chocolate two times a week

I don’t think this will lead to weight loss at a lower weight :’(

Oh and I only eat 2 meals a day, otherwise it's too much for me (and I get low BM's too so I know how tricky that can be).

I've got a 3 course lunch at the Lanesbrorough soon and I'm worried I won't be able to eat it all!

Cut the wine and chocs first. Fruit has a lot of naturally occurring sugars too.
