I am 5 ft 3. Have lost 25 pounds. Have a goal weight of 125 pounds. I should add that I have PCOS which means I put on weight easily.

Just wondering if you can only be that slim if you have a naturally high metabolism/are very active.
I’m on a lot of dieting forums and many people (my height) say it is just not sustainable for them to be below 10 stone.

But having said that you see plenty of slim people who don’t appear to be massively restricting.

I consume 1300 calories to lose weight. Exercise 3/4 x a week.

Just figuring out my goal.

Look into calorie density. You can eat more if you eat less calorie dense foods. Nutmeg Notebook and Chef AJ on youtube talk about it.

Sadtosaythis · 04/07/2024 17:47

5ft 4, 8 stones and 5 pounds. So today I have eaten..

Half a bagel toasted
Handful of mixed nuts

Piece of cake
Oatie biscuit

Halloumi and salad pitta
Apple

Packet of crisps

Salmon, fries and veg

Lots of tea (herbal) and two strong coffees

I try to eat healthily but I don’t stop myself from having what I want. Aside from pregnancy and a short stint on an AD, my weight has never been above 8 stones 8 so I guess it’s just how I’m made.

Serencwtch · 04/07/2024 18:02

5'3" just under 8 stone I think (47kg) Vegetarian but eat a lot of vegan meals. Very rarely drink alcohol. Never over eat - 3 course meals etc or binge.
Have never counted calories etc but eat porridge/toast/cereal, lots of different fruit & veg, bread, potato's, couscous, grains, pulses, cheese, yogurt, beans, black coffee, herbal teas. Don't eat biscuits, cakes, chocolate but often croissant or pastries.
No formal exercise but very active at work & don't drive so crazy amounts of walking.

I think being aware of what I'm eating & not being tempted by processed, sugar etc is my 'trick' I know so many people on 'diets' of ridiculously low calorie intakes but they seem to disregard a lot of what they eat eg a biscuit here & there or glass of wine, handful of crisps or they drink a bottle of wine at the weekend & snack on crisps but swear they only eat 1000 calories a day.

WhydoIcaresomuch · 04/07/2024 18:07

5’5 and 9 stone. I watch what I eat mostly in the week. A typical day will be:

black coffee for breakfast
yoghurt, fruit, nuts & seeds for lunch
water (I’m not great at drinking water as I forget)
evening snack - toast / biscuits
dinner might be anything - curry, pasta etc but I eat similar portions to my kids
treat / glass of wine or something in the evening

I hover around 1350 cals daily but don’t track at the weekend!

SouthEastCoast · 04/07/2024 18:12

I’m short and slim. No sugar or sugar substitutes ,maximum 1 piece of fruit per day, no bread or pasta and being sensible with the amount of carbs I eat.
that is the only way I stay lean.

Littleguggi · 04/07/2024 18:22

Mid 30's, 5ft 1ins, 51kg, always been around 51kg since my teens. Did get up to 56kg post babies.

Breakfast
Cereal with milk or egg on toast or both

Snack
Fruit or cheese and crackers

Lunch
Usually toast/wap with avocado and egg/ tuna, cottage cheese

Snack
Fruit or yoghurt

2nd lunch/4pm
Small portion of whatever the kids are eating

Dinner
Meat/fish with rice/potato/pasta and veg/salad

Usually a sweet treat after dinner, maybe few squares of dark choc

Littleguggi · 04/07/2024 18:24

Like a PP said, I rarely drink alcohol and never skip a meal. I do have a sweet tooth but recently trying to have a UPF free diet as much as possible so if I do fancy a cake/ biscuit I'd rather bake it myself. I also cook 90% of my meals myself, odd takeaway here and there.

BIWI · 04/07/2024 18:31

If you have PCOS then a low carb diet will work better for you than a low calorie one.

Cavalierchaos · 04/07/2024 18:41

I'm 5 foot and 50kg/8 stone. I'm in my twenties. I am slim but have a biggish belly. I would like to be about 48kg. I drink alcohol about once a month if that, have a square of dark chocolate every day, and rarely have crisps/biscuits/other treats.

My struggle is portion sizes. I used to eat small meals until I met my partner and then suddenly my plates started matching his.

Petitee · 04/07/2024 18:46

5'2" and exactly 7 stone. I eat 3 meals a day (not a salad) and snack on sweet stuff everyday. I also have a few pieces of fruit everyday. I'm always hungry. I'm in my 20s and have a baby.

friskybivalves · 04/07/2024 18:51

I think portion size is key as well. I am 5ft 2 and have been 7st 10 but am happier at 8st 5. My portions have naturally got smaller as I have lost weight and kept it off over the past five years.

Always have granola, grk yoghurt, half a banana, sultanas and decent honey for breakfast. With a skinny latte.

Lunch is prob a chicken salad or something from Itsu with a yoghurt and an apple.

Dinner - might have whatever is left from the DCs but not a great deal of it as I am rarely hungry at night. But I might have mozzarella and tomato salad, knock back fruit, snack on sugar snaps and raw broccoli...

Thing is that your tastes and appetites just do change. I used to chug down McDs and still love pizza. But I cannot do more than one slice now or maybe two absolutely max, and even then I feel quite greasy inside afterwards.

I should drink more water instead of tea but cannot stand it. Ah well. Too bad.

Is anyone else feeling a bit hopeless reading this?

Coffeerum · 04/07/2024 19:00

5”1 and generally in and around 7-7.5stone.

I don’t calorie count, I just eat whatever. Some days it’s more some days it’s less, it just depends on appetite.

Today was a pretty shitty day after a night of terrible sleep with the baby.

For breakfast I had 2 lattes and then 2 pain au chocolates mid morning.
Then a handful of breaded chicken chunks with a pair and a peach.
A few strawberry laces and then hummous on corn cakes and carrots with toddler dinner.
Will have some sort of balanced dinner when they go to bed, maybe a satay stir fry with lots of veg to balance out the garbage today.

minipie · 04/07/2024 19:02

Actually I’m feeling a bit encouraged

I’m 5’3 and a bit over 9 stone, would like to lose 1/2 a stone. But I currently eat way, way more than most people above are describing (both in quantity and calories as I eat a lot of high fat foods) - so it seems like it might not be that hard to shift.

beigetea · 04/07/2024 19:07

I'm 5'4 and currently weigh 8 stone but I don't feel particularly slim. So this is encouraging to me.

beigetea · 04/07/2024 19:08

That should say 8 stone 10lbs! I'd love to get to 8 stone!

LadyKenya · 04/07/2024 19:09

I eat whatever I want too. I do not eat ready meals, shop bought cakes, fizzy drinks, or eat a lot of chocolate. I make my own cakes, and meals. I had fish & chips for dinner today, I used a cod fillet, made my own batter, and had it with homemade chips, and frozen peas. I don't drink, and have no desire to. I used to like a southern comfort, and lemonade back in the day 😁. I never weigh myself, I see no need to. I would like to gain weight, but do not say so to friends in rl, as I know it would not go down too well. I know that they might think that I have a problem with food. The truth is I cannot stomach poor food quality food. I will admit on here, to being a food snob, and would rather not eat, then eat food that is not going to give me any nutritional benefit. I do not eat a lot of fruit, but eat a lot of vegetables. I will have some type of vegetable with most meals. I never have takeaways, and very rarely eat out, only to socialize.

YourMommaWasASnowblower · 04/07/2024 19:13

I’m 5ft4 and 8 stone. I eat what I like and have never been on a diet in my life. However, I hardly ever eat meat because I don’t like it.

sHREDDIES19 · 04/07/2024 19:16

i think we all have different frames that will determine our base level weight. I have a small frame I’m just under 5ft 4 and have always weighed about the same around 8 stone and a few pounds (give or take). There is no secret, I don’t have any good hang ups I just enjoy it. But neither do I abuse it. I eat three square meals, I’m a life long vegetarian, I do drink wine but am active and enjoy healthy but hearty food.

sparklysid · 04/07/2024 19:17

I'm 5ft 2" and 107lbs. I don't eat a specific number of calories each day but track my calories in and out on the fitbit app. I walk a lot and usually burn more than 1500 cals a day so eat close to that to keep my weight stable. I lost 21lbs last year and made sure I was always in a small (200 cal ish) deficit each day. I cut out processed calorie-dense foods when I was trying to lose the weight and haven't gone back to them as they make me feel rubbish.

YES. I could not eat some of these diets. Seems majority are restricting. Fair enough. Overwhelms me that that will be my new normal. Might just stick to being 10 stone. And no way am I going to get 12000 steps in. I struggle getting to the gym twice a week as is.

HermitCrabby · 04/07/2024 19:18

I am nearly 50, 5 ft and about 7 1/2 stone. I don’t have an exercise regime but walk a lot. I drink wine at weekends. I eat more or less what I want but am rarely hungry first thing and don’t eat much breakfast, maybe a bowl of yoghurt or some toast and marmite. I drink cups and cups of tea with skimmed milk. Lunch is generally smallish too, unless I’m out, and then I have a substantial dinner at about 9pm. Portion size similar to my husband’s, with starch as well as protein and veg. I eat cake and biscuits, love crisps and cheese. I have no idea how this works and fully appreciate my good fortune.

Lifeofthepartay · 04/07/2024 19:19

Following this, 5ft 3 and can't go any lower than 10st 2 or 3 and that's already eating very little processed food. I do eat biggish portions, but try and do 2 meals- one around 11 and one around 5, then a snack of greek yogurt with frozen berries. I would love to be 9.5 stone....

crostini · 04/07/2024 19:22

I'm 9 stone and I'm 5ft2. I eat the foods I like and feel full.

Today was

Breakfast: Greek yog, chia seeds, a banana and peanut butter.

Lunch: a whole avocado, a whole tub of cottage cheese and some sun dried tomatoes, with more chia seeds on top.

Tea: chicken curry and rice.

Will maybe have some a biscuit or dark choc with cup of tea this evening. I also had 3 coffees with milk throughout the day.

I agree some sound restrictive but I think as long as your portion sizes are smaller, you can enjoy a wide variety of food and not feel you're missing out on anything. I think some of it may be genetic for example I have never been able to eat much in one go.
