Voting labour for the first time. Anyone else?

Labour are far from perfect, but I like Keir Starmer and I think they are the best party to turn things around from the awful mess the incumbents have got us into.

He’s not glossy or witty or funny, but he seems decent - (he clearly has a wonderful wife and that only reflects well on him!)

Anyway, just curious - anyone else voting Labour for the first time? I’m 40 by the way and in the south east.

As a female, no. I'll be voting Conservative.

Anyone remember the note Labour left on the desk about 'no money left' when Conservatives came in? It'll happen again if Labour get in

Like the Tories have left us rolling in it.

Do you want to place a bet on that? I hear it’s the thing to do 😂

Jesus, I really hope she isn't!!!

Of course she won't. The scaremongering on this thread is hilarious. The Tory HQ bots are working hard today.

Pointless though. They are done.

BlackFriYay · 04/07/2024 10:44

Starmer said Labour intend to tax pensioners, he has said so himself

I'm struggling to see what the problem with this is. The older you get the more likely you are to use/require the NHS. I have a relative who is at the doctors atleast once a week.

Surely May was older?

Younger - Theresa May was 59 when she became PM - she lasted 3 years.

So she was PM when she was the same age as Starmer as a PM & was anyone questioning her competence (yes) because of her age (no.)

Georgieporgypud · 04/07/2024 10:47

I've got absolutely NO problem with labour raising inheritance tax. I hope they do.

You clearly thought Teresa May looked old for her age! May was still 62 when she left office - Starmer hasn't got long!

Clavinova · 04/07/2024 10:49

Theresa May

There's a big headline today about labour. If they win, dont own a home , car , pension or try to save. And don't even think of trying to leave your kids anything (of older kids don't expect any inheritance) because labour will see to it that they bleed you dry.

A big headline where? One of the many Murdoch-owned right wing rags?

I do hope people apply some critical thinking to this kind of scandalous Tory propaganda.

Hummingbird75 · 04/07/2024 10:24

Because they keep us safely in a dangerous world, and are willing to invest in defence. The bearded lefties will be dismantling that in no time.

Because the conservatives recognise women and girls

The conservatives are traditionally and notoriously pro business and good for the economy.

Conservatives can be trusted.

Labour is massive leap into the unknown, and it is what is not being said that is worrying people, and the prospect of a hard left government in less than 12 months time...

Conservatives can be trusted

hahahaha. They’ve proved the opposite.

Shade17 · 04/07/2024 10:58

No chance I’d ever vote Labour

Fightthepower · 04/07/2024 10:59

To be honest I didn’t really think about how old May was. I knew she was an experienced competition. I certainly didn’t think any ageist bullshit like she couldn’t do the job because she had grey hair, which is essentially what some previous posters are staying about Starmer.

Appealing to people’s innate selfishness and greed is the only thing the Tories really know.

Hummingbird75 · 04/07/2024 11:01

Anyone for Angela for PM?

No, I didn't think so, but she will claw her way into the job within a year for sure! She is biding her time, biding her time nicely.

Fightthepower · 04/07/2024 11:03

I note none of the Tory supporters are on here saying come on electorate we really want the Tory flagship policy of reintroducing national service.

Whatafustercluck · 04/07/2024 11:04

To answer the op, I voted Labour but not for the first time.

However, our true blue friend and neighbour across the road from us has voted Labour for the first time. I've enjoyed many political debates with him.

You are just spouting nonsense now. There is no reason to believe they would change a leader who has just won a sizeable mandate.

Just because we’ve had a Tory leadership merry-go round ( outlasted by a lettuce indeed!) there’s no reason to judge other parties by their standards.

Who do you think will be replacing Sunak? As there will be a Tory leadership change for sure.

Beekeepingmum · 04/07/2024 11:08

Can't wait for tomorrow when all these posters from Tory HQ will magically stop and not be heard from again. I can't see how anyone can say Tories can be trusted, don't forget that Liz Truss was the elected PM by the Tory party - that is what they believe. I'm voting for change.

This.

Starmer is getting the keys to Number 10 with the biggest majority of any party since 1832. Why on earth would they then depose him a year later for Rayner or anyone else? Just because the Tories have no loyalty to their leaders doesn't mean Labour will behave the same.

We will still be here, thanks. Just as we have been for the last decade.

The conservatives for all of their faults are incredibly trustworthy when it comes to the economy, women's rights, national security and whilst the whole world seems to be moving to the right for all of the reasons we know, we have fought for democracy tooth and nail. Labour are just about to take that all away from us IF they get in.

Rayner has her eyes firmly on the prize. She will let Starmer do the heavy lifting and then the dark horses in the positions of power will remove the fig leaf that is Starmer. I have no doubt we could end up with our first hard left government in a few months from now.

Very carefully planned.
Just like the strikes. They know exactly what they are doing.

Now I know you're trolling us.

IF Labour gets in?! You are utterly delusional.

Are you even living on the same planet?! Do you seriously believe the Tories have got a chance of staying in power today?
