I understand this isn't for everyone but I love a good woo story. Even if you've seen/experienced something but aren't 100% sure and are on the fence, I'd love to hear your stories.

I've had a few experiences myself, nothing majorly scary just in my old house I'd often hear loud clear footsteps when nobody could be there and often saw a shadow figure, sometimes right infront of me and other times in my peripheral so can understand why people think they've seen something but can't be sure. I also worked in a pub that had some poltergeist type activity and various figures had been seen by staff and customers. I'd love to hear yours!

I have a few. I used to walk home alone late at night after closing up the pub, because 19-20 year old me was a bit of a twat, there were 2 routes I could take home, one night a middle age woman appeared and told me not to go a certain way, she looked sad and frightened, she wouldn't say why just said "please, for me, walk the other way" and hurried past me, it was a rough bit of town, the route she was saying not to go was quicker but a bit sketchy (included an unlit alley) so I decided to take her advice, turned to tell her that and she'd disappeared. A few minutes later I came across a young lad, maybe 15/16, in a terrible state, unconcious, laying on his back choking on his own vomit. I managed to clear his airways and waited with him until the ambulance arrived. He'd taken some pills and drank too much and his mates had just left him. If I'd walked the way I usually did the chances are no one would have found him in time.

Working in the pub one night a glass flew off a table, flew across the room and smashed in the middle of the floor, there was only me and 1 customer in and we were stood at the bar chatting. The pub is 15th century and there are often noises and things wouldn't be where I put them, things out the corner of your eye etc but it's the only time I ever actually saw anything move.

I also occasionally get a strange feeling like someone is watching me, particularly in bed, which I've had all my life it comes and goes and I just do my best to ignore it. Except recently we got a dog, and everytime I get that feeling now the dog comes and puts his head on me and the feeling goes.

We’ve lived in our house for 20 years. Every child under the age of five who’s stayed here (including DS) has asked who ‘the man’ is. The swing would suddenly start moving long after DS went to bed on a perfectly still night. Our bedroom door will fly open, we can feel people sitting on the bed and I can be in bed on my own and the duvet will mysteriously pull back. No intention of selling up so we just live alongside him.

I can't believe that you still live in the house! 😲. How do you shower knowing that you are being watched all the time?! 😆

If this happened to me the house would be on the market the next day. I'd be buying a new build and never be going back! 😂

I've also had (very mundane) precognitive dreams. Eg dreaming of the clock being 1.27am, and waking and indeed it being 1.27am.
My partner has similar dreams. He dreamt that someone he had a meeting with via zoom had a tattoo of three people dancing. It turns out he did indeed have a tattoo exactly like he dreamt of, on his back (he never saw his back on zoom).
Feels like some kind of glitch in the matrix!

I get something like this too. Not dreams, but sometimes I just know things that I couldn't possibly know. It used to happen much more frequently when I was a child/teenager.

I also sometimes feel like I've lived parts of my life before, and I 'remember' certain events as they are happening. I don't know how to explain it, but it's a bit like having read a book, many, many years ago, and you get to certain chapters where you recognise or 'remember' specific events. It's really odd!

Like you say, a glitch in the matrix! 😂

Someone walks up the stairs most nights in my (now) Mum and Dad's house, usually between 2.30 and 3am to the top bedroom. Two of my four children have seen him when young children (6 years apart, same description) but two do not see him at all (or are maybe asleep). He moves things sometimes on Mum's bedside table. Mum and Dad are not "woo" but Mum has admitted crossly that "someone has been in and thrown my bathroom towels all over". Had two sets of tenants before Mum and Dad moved in, both moved out because of it. It is recorded as having a young man who died in the 1st world war. I think he is probably coming home. I know I would hear it, and won't stay there.

Bewareofthisonetoo · 08/07/2024 02:48

Not woo as such -but the weirdest coincidence. Vaguely knew a guy from a sports club, He moved away. About 2years later out on my boat with friends we passed some lovely riverside flats and my friend said how she’d like to live there. I said oh yeah they have a great view -went a party there , a guy from the sports club used to live there.
At that moment WhatsApp pinged and it was him. We’d never been friends and hadn’t heard from him since he left the area. The message was to say he was back in the area and trying to get into the club house but had forgotten the code and could I remind him.
I literally had not given him a thought since he moved and we hardly knew each other then.

@majmh Wow that first story has given me goosebumps. That's so odd! I take it there was literally nowhere for her to go by the time you looked back at her and she vanished into thin air? Was she dressed in modern day normal clothes?

Reading your pub story reminded me of the similar spooky things that happened when I worked in a pub when I was younger. I definitely think old regulars pop back from time to time.

There are some amazing videos on youtube of ghosts throwing glasses around pubs.

Some of them have various copyright bits on them so I won't link but do google!

pollyglot · 08/07/2024 07:23

DH walking home from work along the gravelled towpath of the River Lea near Rye House. Winter-ish, quite dark, he saw two people coming from the opposite direction. As they passed, he noted that they were a man and a woman, dressed in dark clothes, but he could not see their faces...there were no faces. What freaked him out was the fact that there was no noise from the gravel, other than his own footsteps, and as they passed, there was a strong scent of violets. He is a programmer, ex Royal Navy, very down-to-earth and no-nonsense, but was pretty shaken when he arrived home.

She was wearing a smart black coat, the type they've been making forever and hair in a bun, so not old fashioned enough to stand out but also not super modern.
Nowhere she could have gone that fast.

BashfulClam · 08/07/2024 08:13

the house I grew up in was haunted. Loads of things happened and as a child I used to hear the voices of a man and woman but could never y what they were saying. I always felt watched and was scared to go upstairs alone. I used to sit desperate for the loo and too scared to go. One day our lovely golden retriever who was very docile started barking and snarling at nothing, she got in front of me as if she was protecting me and had her teeth bared and hackles up and looked fierce. Her whole body was growling. All that was in front of us was the external wall of my mums bedroom but she could see or sense something and she thought it was dangerous. Even wit strangers she never acted like that., type of dog that would lick you to death.

Loads of weird stuff happens and we found out one of the previous occupants hung herself and her teenage son found her. There were bolts on the outside of all the bedroom doors. When to dig was put down me and my mum heard her upstairs. The thump as she got out of bed, then her collar jangling and she had a good shake. We just looked at each other and said ‘did you just hear that?’

Wow! I just love that! 💜

Tellmeyourwoostories · 08/07/2024 09:10

@pollyglot That's freaky, that would shit me up too lol. What did he say was there instead of their face, eg just skin or blackness or ?

OP posts:
pollyglot · 08/07/2024 09:25

Their faces were just grey/cloudy. No features discernible.

We used to take a short cut past a graveyard in our village. One evening we got to the end and the gate was locked and an old man was shouting at us saying we shouldn't do that when someone had just died. He really frghtened us the way he was shouting.
Everyone in the village went this way as it was the safest and shortest route.
We went back home and my dad came back with us to talk to the man. Man wasn't there and gate wasn't locked.
Dad went over to the man's house to talk to him. And saw him through the window lying on the ground.
Apparently he had been dead for at least 12 hours...we had definitely just had a conversation with him.

Sharontheodopolodous · 08/07/2024 13:13

Years ago (we where talking about it yesterday) we where in a shopping centre in Hull (i think it was called the prospect centre)

My sons decided they needed to go to the toliet,so we walked round and found them

I sent them in with the warning of 'muck about in there lads, and you'll be in big trouble'

(they where at the age where they where too old to be taken into the ladies with me but would mess about knowing I can't just walk into the gents-id normally have checked for any other gents and kept my foot on the door to keep it open a crack, but their baby sister was being a pain and i had to see to her)

Both said they went into the toilets rather than the urinals and did what they needed to do

Both where washing their hands when they claim to have seen 'an old man, wearing old army uniform, standing using old crutches and was missing half his leg-he smiled and faded away'

They shot out of there-straight into me-both white as sheets, both desperately telling me what they'd just seen and both where as white as sheets

I calmed them down and we googled the history of the bulding/its grounds

It used to be a hospital in one of the world wars (can't remember which one)

It was used for soldiers who had been injured during the war-quite a few had limbs blown off

They both swear that's what they saw even all these years later

Am I allowed post a FB link? There's a creepy Orb video from someone's empty room, the family apparently are on holidays

It's on "Supernatural, Myths, legends, Ghosts, Paranormal & Superstitions" from about 2 hours ago Kendra is the poster if that helps

I’m still here for the grandfather clock missing chains mystery.

Oh my god, yes!
We're they ever found??

BoringAF19 · 08/07/2024 18:47

I grew up in a ‘haunted’ council house so have had so many strange things happen.

used to put things down and then they’d disappear and reappear in the same spot you’d left them weeks later, like on the bed where you know they definitely couldn’t have stayed there

footsteps, crying and seeing someone walk downstairs or past a door was a weekly occurrence

one night I was 15 and home alone and I heard the beeping of an old Nokia like when you used to text you’d hear the beeping so I went downstairs where all the old phones were kept (out of charge from years before) and had a look and of course none of them made any noise but I heard someone whistling by my ear and could even feel their breath - that was probably the creepiest one

a few weeks ago we had our dog put to sleep and my husband was in the living room alone quite upset and the living room door which was shut burst open - no one there but our dog was a staff who regularly used his head like a boulder to open doors, we took that as a sign that he’s still with us 😊

I’m so disappointed 🤣 I tell that story to all my friends.

Tellmeyourwoostories · 08/07/2024 22:16

@Sharontheodopolodous I've seen your story before. That's so odd that they both saw him at the same time, mind you they say children are more susceptible to seeing things don't they? Bet they didn't need the loo so much after seeing him in there lol.

@BoringAF19 god the breath in your ear gave me heebie jeebies. Especially being home alone, I bet you felt horrible being home alone after that. I had similar in an old house with seeing things in the corner of my eye and other times face on, like they were playing tricks with you.

I was mildly amused one day when the clock in my classroom started going backwards then got stuck on 12:06. I was telling my class that they obviously weren't going to get lunch that day.
Took it off the wall, took out the batteries, left it to have my lunch and sort it later.
Ten minutes later, I got a call saying my dad had just died suddenly. About the same time as the clock went wonky.
