To think there's going to be a Civil War in America

I mean, they're fucked aren't they

Now that Trump isn't getting prosecuted after today for the January 6th atrocities

And Biden 🤦‍♀️ - they might replace him

It's so awful - so terribly polarised

I think it's a real possibility

A more balanced way? Trump proves he’s totally unbalanced every time he opens his mouth.

Except that isn't really true.

I have no beef with anyone who thinks he is a bad guy, says stupid shit on Twitter, and has some seriously concerning characteristics for a person running for office.

However, if you look at the difference between the way most media in the UK discuss him, or the liberal media in the US,and conservative sources - or even better, just recordings of his speeches and rallies - it's dishonest. It very much panders to the desire for people to see a car crash. It tends to take his comments out of context or divide them up to look as bad as possible. Or they fail to note that other presidents, including people like Clinton, Obama, and Biden have had policies similar to things Trump had, or said things similar that they are giving Trump flack for.

They also never ever highlight people who are Trump voters unless they are batshit, and most of them are actually normal people.

It gives even people who really have political differences with him, or with Republicans in general, a distorted view of why people vote for him. And that's just useless. I don't know why anyone who actually cares about political results would allow themselves to remain ignorant in that way. Unless maybe they are more concerned with feeling righteous than being in a position to address the people they want to convince to change their vote.

TempestTost · 02/07/2024 02:12

I think Trump has been pretty clear that he sees abortion as a state issue? So unlikely to do anything more about it. Unless something has changed?

Just because some might want more doesn't mean that is actually in the cards. He's been fairly canny on this I think.

He said yesterday that the insurrectionists who were jailed for January 6th will be freed when he takes office

THEY KILLED COPS AND ATTACKED GUARDS

They did not. No cops were killed that day and one had died of natural causes a few days later. Stop repeating lies

Aussieland · 02/07/2024 02:43

It’s a fairly clear boiled frog situation where a group of people tried to stop the peaceful transfer of power, with at least no immediate condemnation of the president and some people are thinking it’s ok because they didn’t technically kill anyone 🤯
THIS is the worry. This is the sort of thing that happens in countries who are destabilising

LifeExperience · 02/07/2024 02:57

Dymaxion · 01/07/2024 22:01

My point was that he is clearly not fit to run the country so someone else is making the decisions.

But very few single Presidents/Prime ministers etc make all the decisions do they ? Most have an army of people in the wings finding out information, basically making the decision on behalf of the head honcho ? It isn't like you have single person, who is madly googling everything on their own, to make a decision is it ? Delegation is a huge part of government ?

You just defined an oligarchy. No, we Americans don't want an unelected, unaccountable, faceless cabal running our government.

We literally do not know who is running our country right now, because the Biden administration won't tell us. And we are outraged.

Yeah they actually just injured more than 100 cops while attempting to seize the seat of government, in order to overturn the results of an election by force. The armed mob also went looking for individual congress members and the Vice President of the United States, with the stated intent of hanging him.

It’s alright though. They didn’t directly kill any cops.

You should look up what Commander in Chief means. Also Google "nuclear football" whilst you're at it

Well aware what these mean and the processes of command involved.

And I think it is pretty clear while Biden is not quite as with it as he was, he is a clever man and is not quite ready for a nursing home yet 🙄
I am not sure people on here understand the difference between the confused behaviour of the 2 men (as trump is also clearly cognitively impaired) and why it might have different results.

How is he clever? Even Obama said Joe could eff up anything.

He’s also been lying his ass for decades. Or else he’s always been mentally unwell.

and then there is Burisma and his felonious, sister-in-law fucking, drug addicted, prostitute hiring son. What a shit show.

I can’t understand why the only options are who they are. I would hate to live in America.

I can’t believe that Trump will likely be back. I don’t know enough about American politics and so I really thought he was gone. Dread to think what the country will be like under him again.

Really? What was so bad under trump last time?

There were no wars started, he actually ended wars. He made peace with threats like Korea and Russia, the economy was doing better than ever, taxes and fuel were low, many Americans love him, what did he do that was so awful please?

Or is that just the stance you've been told to take by biased media?

EasternStandard · 02/07/2024 07:23

Just looked up the court ruling as missed that

I don’t think there’ll be a civil war. Other countries might be more concerned though

NotAgainWilson · 02/07/2024 07:29

we need to understand that every president chosen’s views represent the views of the population of the country. America is not great, never was and it won’t be, America is just rich and above all, greedy, and it will continue to be.

Despite all the outrageous stuff Trump has done, a majority of Americans will vote again for him so, there you have it, that’s what Anericans want, that’s what they stand for and that’s what we all will get, with all of the repercussions of choosing to put a dishonest mad criminal on the presidential seat.

Most of why I don’t like him comes directly from him and his ridiculous Twitter ramblings.

and the comments that have come from his own mouth that are disgustingly sexist and racist

oh and 2020 of course and how he behaved and what that led to. Which he has been charged for. I’m not sure any of that is biased?!

it doesn’t matter anyway. I’m not American so I won’t be voting.

Youneverevencallmebymyname · 02/07/2024 01:37

Maybe someone should have threatened the Clinton’s with jail. There is a very long list of reasons they should be investigated.

However, the current administration is very obviously using the justice department in an attempt to prevent Trump from running. The “37 felonies” are a joke.

I think the man is pretty odious, but prosecuting a political opponent is far worse for democracy than anything he’s done.

You might want to lay off the Kool aid there.
Nuts.

So are you saying that Trump is misquoted and that he doesn’t lie blatantly?
I know you said clips are shown out of context however, a lie is a lie is a lie and that can not be ignored.

Hardly ‘hilarious’, that a Poster is not ‘amaerican’ (just as an aside is that how Americans’ spell ‘American’?) on a British forum which is precisely what Mumsnet is!

Won’t be rich with all that political turmoil will they!!

I am not sure sometimes, but Biden’s lies are much more clear cut and intentional. It’s mind blowing how much he lies.

Yeah that is definitely not convincing me that he is worse than a lying corrupt rapist 😂 There are about 2 in there that are not great and the rest are minor if even true. Compare that to what trump has lied about and I think trump is the bigliest winner of the lies. Also that’s a right wing new site which is marked as “mixed” in its reliability

You seem to be talking only in comparison. This is just a provable short list of lies. Biden regularly makes claims like having taught at a university where he never taught. You don’t find that odd?

Floatingandundecided · 02/07/2024 09:26

The world seems to be leaning dramatically to the right at the moment. It's worrying.
