To think there's going to be a Civil War in America

I mean, they're fucked aren't they

Now that Trump isn't getting prosecuted after today for the January 6th atrocities

And Biden 🤦‍♀️ - they might replace him

It's so awful - so terribly polarised

I think it's a real possibility

Butigieg's been a bit quiet lately. He's come under a lot of fire on transportation - train derailments, plane problems - a lot of it's not his fault because US infrastructure is so degraded but it'll still be blamed on him.

Another one to watch is Gretchen Whitmer! Really solid liberal track record on protecting union rights, shoring up abortion rights, and stricter gun control. She's a do-er. And she doesn't suffer fools gladly, I think she would wipe the floor with Trump in a debate. I'd love it if she ran.

I was watching Butigieg when he was running and really liked him, but he’s been a disappointment. Just not geared for this kind of leadership.

Forgot about Whitmer. She’s the one that had people plotting to kidnap her! I can’t remember much else though. Funny how these people fade in and out of the woodwork during the election cycle.

We've already had four years of Trump and the world didn't end. Relax.

Exactly. After Brexit, we were told we'd be bankrupt within a year.

It’s refreshing to read your perspective which is obviously a well-informed one.

I wonder if the Clintons hold any sway now. Thoughts?

No idea. I think they've kind of become personae non gratae (grati?) in the higher Dem circles. Don't know why. I don't think Hilary would ever run again, no. She was the better candidate in 2016, she had the popular vote, the misogyny she was subjected to was....mind blowing. Just incredible. She's extremely far from being a stupid woman and I just don't think she'd ever put herself through that ever again.

Aww I guess you're right. But I like Whitmer. She's my personal fave.

I honestly think if anyone were to get it, it would be Newsom. Purely because he's charismatic and articulate and quick thinking enough to be able to eviscerate Trump and, this close to the election, you'd need someone who can achieve that kind of cut through very quickly.

I think their involvement with Epstein has been exposed to the point of no return now.

I never thought she could win because she’s been such a polarising figure. Misogyny too, but not the main reason. Most would have voted for anyone but Trump in 2016 but not Hillary.

Is it due to the economy or to people coming across the border with no place to go?

Thats ok. I am sure.

That’s really terrible. I’m a bit speechless as I always think of homeless as having mental health issues or drug problems but it seems like that is shifting.

shearwater2 · 02/07/2024 15:35

So Presidents have immunity from prosecution?

This could be useful. Biden can pay someone to assassinate Trump and not be prosecuted.

GiveMeSpanakopita · 02/07/2024 15:52

Going back to the original OP, I actually think that a world war (rather than civil) is more likely under Biden than Trump. If you're China and you wanna annexe Taiwan, who are you more likely to do it under? Trump, who's aggressive and might threaten to pull the nuclear button on you, or banjanx your trade deals? Or Biden, who doesn't know what day it is and so definitely can't play hardball round the negotiating table?

I have never thought it was a coincidence that Putin started fucking around in Ukraine once Biden was in power. He's been wanting and saying he's going to do it since the early 00s. He didn't just wake up and decide to do it - he was waiting for the right timing.

Likewise Hamas on 7 October.

Nothing so dangerous to world peace as a vegetable in charge of the world's leading superpower.

Goldenbear · 02/07/2024 08:51

Won’t be rich with all that political turmoil will they!!

Whether we like it or not, there is financial revenue in war. They will be fine, honest. They are so rich in a good part out of the money they have made out lending money to other countries at war, or even fighting against each other.

Having said that, I don’t think there will be a civil war, Trump has had a clear majority long before the recent debate.

Youneverevencallmebymyname · 02/07/2024 16:07

@NotAgainWilson

The United States gives away more in foreign aid than any country in the world. Last year they gave 9.5 Billion in humanitarian aid, and nearly $61 Billion in overall foreign aid.

Why would you call them greedy?

It’s difficult to argue with this logic.

TBF they don't do it out of the kindness of their heart, they do it in order to keep some semblance of world order and minimise warfare. But the point is, they do do it.

I think many of the showy, low information anti-Americans pontificating online fail to realise just how pivotal American soft and hard power is in preventing the rest of the world from killing each other. The Age of America is coming to an end, and the world will be a heck of a lot less free and stable with China as the new superpower.

But in the meantime, a competent leader in its dying days would really be ideal if we are to avoid the old nuclear winter in at least my lifetime.

Bullpuckey · 02/07/2024 16:23

KillerTomato7 · 02/07/2024 04:41

Yeah they actually just injured more than 100 cops while attempting to seize the seat of government, in order to overturn the results of an election by force. The armed mob also went looking for individual congress members and the Vice President of the United States, with the stated intent of hanging him.

It’s alright though. They didn’t directly kill any cops.

Why do you keep lying? Who was armed?

Floatingandundecided · 02/07/2024 16:23

Anything in their hands used in anger is a weapon which means they were armed.

He was not killed by Jan 6 people. Repeating the lie doesn’t make it true.

Seriously. Calm down. Get a grip. Biden has visible dementia. It’s sad. Trump will win and - a a surprise I know - won’t actually turn out to be the antichrist. The world will turn. There won’t be a civil war.

Google Patriot 25. Stalinist purges to follow a Trump victory. So, yes, it's not hyperbole to say that civil war is a risk

I posted a link to the document in this thread can you tell me what page the Stalinist Purge is on?

PerkingFaintly · 02/07/2024 16:43

So you didn't actually see the insurrection as it happened? How odd. It was quite a big news event. Perhaps you're not in the US, though?

As you've now seen, Capitol officers defended with firearms to prevent the insurrectionists penetrating deeper into the building until members of Congress had safely left.

There was also that guard who, incredibly bravely, used himself as bait and lured the insurrectionists up a staircase away from a door into a corridor which would have led to members of Congress. I can't imagine the courage that took.

so it's a little idiosyncratic of you to chatter on so determinedly with some false take on doors.

Might it be so you can avoid talking about the rather more important issue?

That Trump invited the crowd to march up to the Capitol and prevent Congress from counting the electors' votes.

Aladdinzane · 02/07/2024 16:48

Bullpuckey · 02/07/2024 16:23

Why do you keep lying? Who was armed?

They quite blatantly were armed.

Why do you lie?

Does it make you uncomfortable that people on your side are traitors?
