Omg what the hell were they thinking.
Just tried making bolognaise with it. It's direct separate in the same way, and is just big lumps. 😬

Its not just sainsburys

I got it in afew places now
Its horrid isnt it

urrrgh46 · 01/07/2024 17:51

I don't eat meat but my kids have refused to eat it and I only buy from places where it's packaged "normally" since trying the vacuum packaged mince. Kids complained the texture was horrible.

TipsyKoala · 01/07/2024 17:53

Yes I found this. From Lidl, vacuum packed but I thought would be good quality as it’s grass fed. When I cooked it it just formed big lumps which I had to break up with a spoon. It seems to be ground so fine it’s become meat mush.

Growsomeballswoman · 01/07/2024 17:55

I only use a butcher for mince now

OptimismvsRealism · 01/07/2024 17:55

It's horrific

Mynewnameis · 01/07/2024 17:56

Never again. Tesco still sell normal mince

OptimismvsRealism · 01/07/2024 17:57

This and the receipt scanning machine to accuse all the paying customers of being shoplifters are why I stopped going to Sainsbury's

Els1e · 01/07/2024 18:13

I’ve stopped buying mince from Sainsbury’s. It’s a horrible texture.

Projectme · 01/07/2024 18:15

I do a chilli or bolognese with this mince in the slow cooker. According to the kids and DH, it's better cooked that way (I don't eat meat) so if I end up buying it, it gets done in the slow cooker

SoupDragon · 01/07/2024 18:17

Yeah, it's shit isn't it? Uses less plastic but it's completely non-recyclable!

BuyOrBake · 01/07/2024 18:18

It's great for making burgers!!!!

ichundich · 01/07/2024 18:19

I wanted some mince the other day and went to Coop. All they had was this, so I got the meatballs instead. Hopefully as customers don't want or buy it, it will disappear from the shelves quickly.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 01/07/2024 18:23

We haven’t bought mince from Sainsbury’s for well over a year now, because of the vacuum packing. We found that it really affected the texture - it was sort-of woolly when it was cooked - unappetising and lacking any taste - and I’m convinced it’s down to the packaging.

We complained, when they first started using the vacuum packing, and got brushed off - they denied that it had made any difference at all to the quality of the meat.

We buy it at the butchery counter in Morrisons now, portion it up ourselves, and freeze it.

CuriousGeorge80 · 01/07/2024 18:24

Even getting it out of the packaging is gross. Just get from butcher now.

mum2jakie · 01/07/2024 18:25

My OH has stopped buying mince from Sainsbury's due to the packaging and the impact on the texture too. Hopefully they will notice the impact on sales and make changes??

Bibbetybobbity · 01/07/2024 18:25

Agree- slimy. Just awful, I’ve stopped buying it too.

Marshfritillary · 01/07/2024 18:26

I buy turkey mince now as both my local shops, Sainsbury's and Lidl, now do this weird mince. If I (rarely) get a Tesco online order, I will buy beef mince then.

user1471538275 · 01/07/2024 18:27

I don't buy the vacuum packed mince - I go to Tesco and ?Aldi where it's still in rigid packs.

I have tried it, but even after breaking it up it disintegrated into a texture that no-one liked.

It probably is all similar at source, but the squishing really doesn't improve it.

Gladespade · 01/07/2024 18:28

Agree, it’s horrid. It actually makes it taste weird too. Have stopped buying it.

BluLagoon · 01/07/2024 18:28

Yep, hate it too. I did persevere and tried different ways of breaking up the meat but it was still lumpy and unpleasant. I also avoid as much as possible.

allthemiddlechildrenoftheworld · 01/07/2024 18:29

@Toddlerteaplease i prefer butcher for mince. hubby sometimes buys it from tesco but it is like bloody string, not mince!!!

CrushingOnRubies · 01/07/2024 18:29

It's not an improvement. You can't get nice strands of mince in the same way and it's all slimy

Snowpaw · 01/07/2024 18:33

I haven't noticed a difference in taste or texture to be honest. Granted it is a bit more of a faff to get it broken up but thats the only down side for me. Hasn't stopped me buying it.

Yes I do this . Weirdly I quite like this mince, my husband likes bolognaise and I like meatballs. With this I get both in one dish 🤣

Poachedeggavocado · 01/07/2024 18:39

Hate it. Stopped after two attempts and then left sainsbury online for a few reasons but this was one of them. It's disgusting.
