Omg what the hell were they thinking.
Just tried making bolognaise with it. It's direct separate in the same way, and is just big lumps. 😬

I only buy from the butcher. I don't eat red meat, just fish and chicken, so it works out just only a little bit more. For chicken mince the butcher will use only what you request, I prefer breast for mince etc. We eat vegetarian meals for half the week so it really doesn't work out to that much more.

I often walk past the meat aisles at supermarkets and it always looks so grim.

Obechod · 01/07/2024 18:49

We had it today, the texture was grim🤢

spikeandbuffy · 01/07/2024 18:55

I use Aldi and mine have normal packs. Didn't like the look of the Sainsburys stuff and it has awful reviews

Justme88213 · 01/07/2024 18:57

I agree it's awful. It's like cat food clumps. Tried it once never again.

Toddlerteaplease · 01/07/2024 18:57

The texture was absolutely grim. Unfortunately they had no other beef mince in normal
Packaging. 8 knew I should have gone to Lidl!

I have stopped buying it . The texture is revolting 🤢

emerald1981 · 01/07/2024 19:00

I buy the frozen mince now. So handy to have in and it is nicely minced like pellets. So no big lumps.

fieldsofbutterflies · 01/07/2024 19:01

Tesco sell properly packaged mince, we have some in the fridge atm.

DuckBushCityLimit · 01/07/2024 19:03

Yes, I've actually swapped a lot of my shopping to other places just because of the horrible cat-food-like mince at Sainsbury's. Waitrose manage to have minimal, non-rigid packaging without turning it into meat sludge.

ohtowinthelottery · 01/07/2024 19:03

It's not great, is it! I chop it with a fork as soon as I put it in a pan to brown so I don't actually get lumps.
Think I need to revert back to buying from the butchers which always had less packaging than Supermarket original type packaging anyway.

I haven't noticed a difference in taste or texture to be honest. Granted it is a bit more of a faff to get it broken up but thats the only down side for me. Hasn't stopped me buying it.

I agree. Takes a bit more effort to break it up, but tastes fine to me!

RobertaFirmino · 01/07/2024 19:16

Can't say I've noticed any difference apart from the breaking up.

Epicaricacy · 01/07/2024 19:18

It's disgusting.

It's not just affecting the texture, but the taste too. Whoever decided to do this must be a vegan.

I wish people could stop buying it full stop, then they'd have to change back.

Safetyworry · 01/07/2024 19:19

It’s soggy and tastes like tinned mince 🤢

Same.

I only use a butcher for mince now

Me too, but we have now used both his legs and one arm and so are running out of options. He can still use the till, but slicing bacon is proving a bit more of a challenge.
May have to find a new (complete) butcher soon...

"tinned" mince? Is that a thing!

Lidl do it too now. I've gone back to the butcher for mince now because the texture is wrong and like a PP said you don't get the nice strands of meat. I hate when mince is lumpy but also when you have to break it into tiny tiny pieces to not have lumps. Horrible memories of the frozen mince DM used to use when I was a child and eating it felt like grainy gravy.

Talipesmum · 01/07/2024 19:51

I’ve not found any problems with it either. It takes a bit more work to break it up but I would never have ended up with “strands” of mince however I cook it - I’d always simmer for ages to get it all soft and tender.

Itsnotmeanttodothat · 01/07/2024 19:54

I gave it a try. Bloody hell it was hard work. I felt like I was repeatedly stabbing it with the wooden spoon and ended up pulling a muscle in my arm. It may as well have been meatballs. The kids didn't say anything but then again they've been trained to say thank you and not take the piss out of whatever is put in front of them.

Greaterorlesser · 01/07/2024 19:56

I buy it frozen from Iceland

Snowwhite83 · 01/07/2024 19:56

I stopped buying sainsburys mince because of this. I suprised they haven't rethought the packaging.

Wildmushroom · 01/07/2024 19:57

Yes to this being so much harder to seperate!

rainbowunicorn · 01/07/2024 19:58

I gave up buying meat in supermarkets about a year ago and get it from the butcher now. Most supermarket meat is tasteless.
