Omg what the hell were they thinking.
Just tried making bolognaise with it. It's direct separate in the same way, and is just big lumps. 😬

I’m surprised you can taste any difference after spices and other ingredients are added and it’s exactly the same product but maybe it’s the added freshness. Vacuumed packaging removes all the oxygen which causes spoiling . Maybe try to focus on the life your children are going to have in old age if we don’t reduce plastic consumption. Kind of puts it into perspective. 🙄

Well my DH catches all the fish we eat, shoots most of the meat we eat, grows most of the vegetables we eat. So we're doing our bit to reduce packaging I reckon.

Well the majority of the uk aren’t able to so Sainsbury’s and the government are going to be pitching their attempts to save the planet at the vast majority. Sorry they’re not basing such an important policy on your husband. 🙄

SpunkyKoala · 25/01/2025 19:15

I love it. It lasts loads longer. I cook it off in the instant pot first for 10 mins with the tinned toms or whatever

Go to the butcher and ask them to mince you actual meat there and then. It's what I do.

That's OK if your town actually has a butcher.

Snowwhite83 · 25/01/2025 19:24

I stopped buying Sainsburys mince when they started this. Its horrid. But Waitrose essential mince instead! Nice texture and similar price!

Nonsense. You can go to Morrisons buy a whole salmon and portion it. You can buy meat in bulk butcher it yourself, cube or mince it.

You can buy vegetables in bulk, chop, blanch and freeze.

But you have to be seriously invested in reducing packaging as you are.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 25/01/2025 19:31

I liked Aldi for the fact it doesn’t have this stupid stuff as its like this at Asda & Sainsbury's near me, I went in last week and it’s all changed over!

Its a twat to get out of the packet and a bloody pain in the arse to break up so I’m not a fan for those reasons but honestly once it was done I can’t say I could tell the difference taste or texture wise. I suppose the upside is the packet takes up less room in the bin!!

You can order meat online from butchers these days if you're interested.

Safetyworry · 25/01/2025 19:32

It’s soggy, almost slimy ? When cooked it becomes like liquidised meat and has an odd taste unlike mince packed in the usual way. It’s how I imagine food for raw dog feeding would be if we ate it 😂

Not if you work full time and have busy lives which the majority do. We don’t even have a butchers in our town .

lopyrs · 25/01/2025 19:34

I haven't notice any difference in taste (does take longer to break up I agree) the disturbing this is how long it lasts, I asked the delivery driver if it was a mistake when we got our first pack, I was convinced it was printed wrong!!

SoupDragon · 26/01/2025 10:52

The old style tray took up no space in the bin as it was recyclable.

HÆLTHEPAIN · 26/01/2025 10:55

I don’t actually mind it. I don’t like mince that’s like wiggles in the packet so this is great. It does take a bit longer to break up but not massively so and I haven’t noticed a difference in taste.

AIBot · 26/01/2025 11:07

There are plenty of options for buying meat online if you don’t have a butcher or farm shop nearby. You can specify the grind for mince, or buy your meat whole and get a grinder. Just get organised.

Whatever but bellyaching about 100% mince still being 100% mince but a different texture is on a par with those whining about paper straws and wooden throw away cutlery- ridiculous when compared to the extreme weather and temperatures the planet is experiencing and only likely to get worse.

No bellyaching or whining, I just buy mince elsewhere if I buy it at all

1457bloom · 15/03/2025 07:44

Luckily Tesco still sells in a normal packet so no reason to buy from Sainsbury’s

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/03/2025 07:46

Another one here who hasn’t bought mince from Sainsbury’s since they repackaged it, I get it from Tescos and put it in the freezer or from the butchers if we have run out

Goldduck · 15/03/2025 08:47

I cook it on a cast iron pot on the hob and then put it in the oven for a couple of hours and it's lovely.
I'm really fussy with meat and do need to slow cook it or the texture just isn't right.

Dbank · 16/03/2025 13:46

I've stopped going to Sainsbury's, because of this horrible packaging, so now do my weekly shop at Asda, M&S or Waitrose.
