The post person entered my house.

I've just seen it on my Ring doorbell.

17yr old DD had left the door unlocked for her friend so she didn't have to come down to let them in. Not uncommon.

Post arrived, including a parcel, during this time. When no one answered the door, the post person tried the handle, opened up the door and came into my home.

Granted, DD shouldn't have left the door unlocked, but it doesn't make what the post person did ok.

Just me who thinks it was completely unreasonable for them to have even tried the handle?!

We had one like that- local creep- got the sack for doing it. Not on at all.

It's quite normal to leave in doorways, porches and on the step!

Not the same as trying the door and then entering the house. Porch/step/doorway, not inside the actual home. Maybe it’s different areas with different ideas of what’s acceptable ? I lock my door as soon as I close it when I get in.

MasterBeth · 30/06/2024 18:48

Yes. The door is still locked.

Not exactly no as the bolts haven't gone across.

It is on the latch.

VotesForWomen · 30/06/2024 19:30

From the evasion of answering it and claiming it's all the same, I'm assuming that the post person went in, left the parcel somewhere not far from the door, and left again and did not in fact rob the OP, sniff her dirty underwear or shit in her shoe.

GM according to RM it may be, but I really think OP needs to unclench. A parcel was delivered, and no harm was done. Keeping the door locked or a notice on the door will prevent recurrence.

Normal people look and see who’s at the door, and would open it if it’s the postman.

"Normal" people...

So are young adults with crippling anxiety not "normal"?

Kelly51 · 30/06/2024 19:32

This thread is pointless as OP refuses to clarify if poster just opened door and popped parcel in open door or actually stepped inside the house, I imagine it's the former hence the lack of response.

When my mum who is no longer with us was worried she’d say she was having kittens , sorry maybe it’s just me

We say this too. My dear late mum used to say her “arse was making buttons” when she was nervous 🤣🤣🤣.

Thevelvelletes · 30/06/2024 19:37

An extra bit of service.
Be moaning like buggery if postie left a parcel out in the pissing rain.

Grammarnut · 30/06/2024 19:38

diddl · 30/06/2024 18:39

I expect Op would rather he had left it in the place requested it be left when no one answers the door.

Probably. But if the door was open then I'd expect my postman to put the package inside. I know him btw.

I've explained this one repeatedly.

From my understanding of RM employees @Ifyouhavetoask99 & @worriedconfused 's posts, my thinking is in line with RM policy on this. They opened my front door uninvited. This appears to be a likely dismissal action for that employee.

Most young adults don't have crippling anxiety, so no, they're not normal. (Normal is over-rated.)

Not bolted but locked.

nah op
you haven’t
you said you thought it was an irrelevant question

Gilly0812 · 30/06/2024 19:46

But what if you have a house cat or puppy that escapes in that moment. It has happened to me.

thankfully not “normal”

would be very depressing,
not least for a teen with crippling anxiety to see this as “normal”

tinkertailorsoldierpie · 30/06/2024 19:46

Still waiting to know to see if OP can divulge how long the postie was inside of the house for, or if it was a case of them just opening the door and leaning in to place the parcel inside.

paasll · 30/06/2024 19:47

I hate those front doors that can be opened from the outside. They feel really unsafe. You need to keep it locked.

That's okay. I'm just about to have my time off work :)

dawngreen · 30/06/2024 19:50

The fact is some one entered a unlocked house, and you only know because you saw it on your ring camera. Doors should always be locked. It only takes one chancer to try doors.

NothingVenturedAndAllThat · 30/06/2024 19:51

Arlanymor · 30/06/2024 17:14

Well it is, it’s:

a) They opened the door, put my parcel inside and closed the door. Saving me a trip to the collection office.
b) They opened the door, had a mooch around my hallway, picked up my posh glass paperweight from Libertys, put their head around the lounge door and fondled my Axeminster, left the parcel and departed.

Edited

I'm sorry, I know this is a deeply serious subject, but I fucking lost it at 'fondled my Axeminster' 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Not bolted but locked.

No it just needs a key to open it.

If it was locked I would also need to use a key on the inside to open it.

Obviously the postie cracked the door, put the post in and closed it again. Wouldn't have even put a foot inside.

Waffle78 · 30/06/2024 20:02

You were home didn't answer the door. Who does that when their expecting a parcel? Would you rather it was left on your doorstep for someone else to take?

Most my parcels get left in the porch or side entrance. Doesn't bother me.
