To think that facial enhancements make people look older/worse/ridiculous

DH and I are watching the latest film on Netflix with Nicole Kidman & Zac Effron. We can’t believe how bad they both look with their obvious cosmetic surgery, I Googled to see their ages and was staggered at how young they are compared to how they look!
Why do people do this?
Kathy Bates looks brilliant with little or nothing done.
I just don’t understand this awful trend at all, everywhere you look people resemble waxwork dolls. It’s bloody awful.
P.S The film is dire…don’t bother🙈🙈

Hmm, lots of cope in this thread. I wonder how many of the women bashing filler and Botox are just feeling a type of way because these procedures came along when it was already too late for them to benefit from the preventative effects? It's much easier to prevent wrinkles with Botox than to try to get rid of them when they are already etched in. The ignorance and judgement in this thread is astounding, spouting off about things you don't understand just to make yourself feel better about what you see when you look in the mirror. You probably see people every day who have had work done and you'd have no idea - it's only obvious when it's done poorly.

IAmAnAdultHumanFemale · 30/06/2024 08:46

If they are happy what does it matter

anyway apparently less
are having fillers now it's all about loving your skin and having salmon jizz facials. Yes really! www.glowday.com/blog/jennifer-aniston-s-salmon-sperm-facial-what-s-it-all-about

skin is in 😂

How come so many of the rich and famous have it done poorly?

Icedlatteplease · 30/06/2024 08:08

Zac Efron was running at home at hit is face on the side of a granite fountain. It seems to have been a very traumatic injury. Not really appropriate to include in cosmetic surgery for cosmetic reasons.

Oops, edited as linked to wrong post.

Pleased to have found this thread, watched something with Nicole Kidman in last week, (who I like), I said I could see she's had work done and my partner was sceptical saying 'really??' She's 57 and it's just not natural to look like that.

I do get that it must be so hard for these A list celebrities - ageing in public when their looks are so much part of their trade, but I feel like they have the chance to show what older women look like and they are only supporting the misogynistic anti-ageing brigade with its impossible standards.

Also I wonder what happens when you stop getting big lip fillers?

DappledThings · 30/06/2024 08:51

Which is why it's weird so many women who presumably can afford the absolutely best treatments look so awful. The Friends reunion was so odd. Courtney Cox looked awful, totally alien. Jennifer Aniston a bit better but still a bit weird and clearly worked on. Lisa Kudrow looked great. Whether they've actually all had the same amount of work and it's just that LK has the best surgeon or she actually hasn't had anything done she absolutely looked the best of the three of them.

Janehasamane · 30/06/2024 08:51

I think some get it right, like Gillian Anderson, some go too far. I’m not sure I’d hold Kathy bates as the poster child for not getting treatments.

I don’t think that posters have an issue with cosmetic treatments per se. A little Botox and slight filler is fine. The problem is that some people don’t know when to stop and as a result look ridiculous.
Also , most posters think it is sad when women in their twenties undergo unnecessary cosmetic treatments which make them look much older than their age

Nice age bashing thread. Do the old people look any worse than the young people with their huge blow job lips?

Age bashing thread? I don’t think so

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 30/06/2024 08:52

I think also with celebrities they tend to be so super skinny that it can really age their faces and they can look gaunt - I suppose that then leads them to fillers. I guess Kathy Bates look fantastic because she isn't as slim maybe.
I've just watched 'Five Nights at Freddie's' with Mary Stuart Masterson - she looked completely natural for her age and was instantly recognisable and looked great. It was so nice to see a face with age lines and expressions looking as you would expect for her age (I'm sure she's probably had subtle bits done).

Shitandrun · 30/06/2024 08:53

A few teaks/fillers can look amazing and I know one lady who has had work done and looks great. She's older then me but looks 10 years younger. The problem is when it goes too far, or perhaps as the fillers and botox age with the face they start to look shit. I've heard filler can migrate so maybe that doesn't help.

I lost my mum very young, I think she was only 31. It's made me look at aging very differently. I'll take every wrinkle, grey hair, jowel, and sag as long as can be here and watch my dc grow up. Growing old is a privilege and should be celebrated.

Dontevenlookatme · 30/06/2024 08:56

The best evidence you need for avoiding facial enhancements is to watch the transformations of the Real Housewives of Beverly Hills or Orange County, from the early to later seasons. These women can afford the best treatments money can buy and they still manage to look frozen and bloated. They’re an alternative version of themselves but not a younger looking one.

Janehasamane · 30/06/2024 08:51

I think Cissy Spacek looks great. She did have a nose job when she was very young but doesn’t look like she’s had anything else done.

Girlputyourrecordson · 30/06/2024 08:58

There is definitely something about American celebrities which makes them go too far I think. Also very young women with the ott lip fillers, big eyebrows etc. It is a cartoon character beauty / drag race type of look and it makes them look a lot older..

It's a 'lewk' though, and maybe they aren't trying to look young (which is kind of a good thing). It might just be their style.

But I do agree with you on the big movie stars. And I also agree with the pp asking that if 'good' cosmetic enhancements look natural, why do these super rich people end up looking so unnatural 🤔?

I personally don't want anything medical done to me that isn't for my own good. Too many things can go wrong. My mum died young and unexpectedly under general anesthetic, so I'm really wary of going under the knife for anything which isn't life saving really.

HazelLion · 30/06/2024 08:59

I think it's a status thing among a certain subset of women (Real Housewives for example) to have obvious cosmetic work. It's another form of conspicuous consumption. They don't necessarily want to look natural.

SheldontheWonderSchlong · 30/06/2024 09:00

flashspeed · 29/06/2024 23:54

I'd like to see a photo of anti tweak women in these threads, to see if aging naturally actually looks more attractive and less freakish, or if it's cope from women who don't want to get botox or filler or tweaks but are scared of their peers getting it and looking frumpy in comparison

How on earth could ageing naturally look freakish?!

Echobelly · 30/06/2024 09:00

There are some subtle tweaks that work but overall, yes, there is a kind of face that makes you add 10+ years to someone because you assume only a person over a certain age would have that sort of work done.

xxSideshowAuntSallyxx · 30/06/2024 09:01

Nicole Kidman doesn't look like Nicole Kidman anymore. Such a shame as she was always very distinctive.

I feel sad about Zac Efron, ever since they rebuilt his face he looks like so many other Hollywood actors. He had such a beautiful face before, he still has the most gorgeous eyes though.

Gettingannoyednow · 29/06/2024 23:18

Nicole Kidman is 57. How young should she look?

She sure as hell looks older than 57!

That goes for obvious lip fillers as well. The girls who have huge fake lips, fake eyelashes and so on aren't trying to look natural. It's an aesthetic choice, like getting visible tattoos. They want people to know they've had it done.

I must be in the minority here but personally I think that she looks bloody great. Yes, she has had treatment but that's her choice and I can understand why she would on the industry she works in. Pretty sad post tbh.

it's cope from women who don't want to get botox or filler or tweaks

What does cope mean in this context? Like denial? Justifying?

No judgement from your post is there? Much! Look at yourself in the mirror and try listening to yourself whilst you’re at it. 🙄

Girlputyourrecordson · 30/06/2024 09:05

I do think light botox can look fine in people's foreheads. It's when they start putting it above their lips so they can't move their mouths it looks odd. Like Julie Bowen said happened to her. In the later series of Modern Family she cannot use her mouth properly.

But I know women who've only had botox in their foreheads and only a little and that looks fine to me.

Lip fillers i think are too unpredictable. They stay in your face longer than you think and can migrate

It's one of these fashions I think we will look back on and wonder wtf we were thinking. Ditto gel nails when they grow out and people have those bare nails at the bottom and polish halfway up their nail.

I've had a bit of botox in my forehead (only once and years ago - didn't make me look any better tbh, so mever bothered again), and I have had gel nails many times, so no shade at all, but I do think we will look back and laugh at ourselves in 20 years time
